I was talking to one of my oldest friends this morning and we got on the topic of love and it made me think of this thread.

I think sometimes people think of being in love as a state of fireworks and magic and I think it definitely IS that way, in the beginning and even after 10 or 20 years together.

But also? I think people sometimes forget to see the magic in the small, quiet moments. The calm moments. The moments when there are no fireworks in the sky but instead, the cool dark expanse of a starry night where you are with the one you love and it feels like there is nobody else in the world but the two of you.
Those moments tend to be quiet and serene for me and perhaps the most supreme state of contentment and peace. And those tend to be the moments when I feel how much my heart has swollen, how much my soul tingles. Mostly, I am able to feel the conduit of connection running from me to the other person and the exchange of blood and stories and fear and joy and desire and trust that makes loving someone else the very thing that will crack your soul wide open.
