Its Harvest (what my family calls Thanksgiving - because its traditionally about HARVEST time - the crops coming in and celebrating with food, with the community people do it in many different countries). So Turkey, Tofu Loaf (for the vegans/vegetarians), stuffing, veggies, Miso gravy/Turkey gravy, mash potato.
For desert there is apple pie and pumpkin pie
The things I like best about it is
1) its "orphans" Harvest, meaning lots of old colleagues of Dad's come, some of my step mum's friends, my mum comes (they are still friends), and any of my friends that want to come. Its usually about 20 people.
2) because so many people have IBS/Colitis/Celiac there are 2 different types of stuffing, 2 different types of pie, lactose free alternatives, and also vegan/vegetarian offerings.
3) everyone gets along - no one is right wing. We are all socialists save maybe 2 or 3 people and they are leftists (not centrists) so there is very little bullshit to put up with. Just the dementia stuff from mum now and in large groups mum is very quiet.
I look forward to Winter Solstice and Harvest dinners because of this.
Happy Harvest Everyone!
