Default Happy Hookers... Er, fisherpersons... LOL

Well, I'm starting this thread because I just KNOW I can't be the only person on this site who's addicted to fishing. I live in Miami, so fishing is almost a lifestyle for me. Got the fishermyns' tan going and all. lol Come on, confess and let us all know about your catches. I'll share mine too!

My pleasure, RN. I fish primarily salt water. Mangrove and other snapper, Amberjack, Jack Crevalles, Pompano and Grouper. I'm a bridge fisher, since I'm mobility impaired (wheelchair), but that doesn't stop me from hooking some pretty big fish! My biggest fish ever was an eight foot black tipped shark off Biscayne Bay, years ago. Took me forever to land, but I was eating shark steaks for a MONTH! lol

I love to fish. I fish both saltwater and freshwater. Nothing beats it. It really relaxes me. The funny thing is...I get terribly seasick. The up and down of the huge ocean waves get me all the time when I go deep sea fishing.

I would love to buy a boat, and live on it full time.

You know, I love seafood. I have never eaten shark meat at all. Can you tell me about what it may taste like? anything to compare it to?
haha don't say chicken either.
I'd love to try eat. I went marlin fishin a couple times and was blown away.. talk about bulking up and being tired real quick.
I caught a very good size red fish and the guys on the boat were laughing at me bc i'm this bass fisher from the mountains. I was blown away by the strength of the marlin and even the red fish. It was a long haul to pull in and took a long time. I was dead tired after that trip but had a blast and would go again in a heartbeat.
I'm trying to get the wife to go fishing with me, she's not going to have it at all. haha cute though.

Doll and I just got back for Louisiana yesterday, we hit the casino's. We had to stop at the welcome to Louisiana center, she was looking up casino's and shopping and I was pulling all the brochures for fishing, so the next time I drive up there, It will be a fabulous weekend of fishing, mosquito's and pure fun. Then I can hit the casino's again... Timber! I will take you to the red fish and drum spots... Sheep heads and flounder spots, so start rigg'in your poles buddy.

Texas coast is not what I'm use to. I come from the Pacific ocean, where all the fish have funky Hawaiian names, that I miss, and reefs so huge that all the fish are happy. The colors are amazing, and fishing was never dull.
The first few times I caught something here in texas, I would ask the guy next to me, what the heck is this? <Holding up my catch> and the guys would laugh and say, a fish, I would get cranky and say, no man, what kind of fish is this, I have never seen one like it before. I caught a lot of slack from the fishermen here, I would have to come home, look on-line and figure out what the heck I caught, lol. Most fish here in texas are silver, or brown, and I am use to rainbow color fishes... Then I finally caught a flounder, and I thought it was a freak fish, I wanted to throw it back into the water until another fisherman said, waitttttttttttttt don't throw that back, it's a flounder, dem is good eat'en. That day I caught a whold bunch of them, and Left drunk and with $80.00 in my pocket cause the guys bought them from me.
Now my goals here are the Red Fish... yeee hawww, I think I am getting the hang of this gulf coast action.

When I lived In Honolulu I used to fish off the docks where the big Navy ships where anchored all I ever caught was puffer fish and eels, lol

Well actually rarely did i get an eel to the top of the water before they bite the line into...but they put up a helluva good fight!

Woman! When in Hawaii, you can't catch anything worth your while on the Navy ship yard docks. You have to go to the beach and walk the gettys or best is down by Waianae off the cliffs, that's where the big fish are! The best fishing I would say was on the Big Island, you Kayak out and fish towards the inshore, use to catch some mighty big ones that way, but the green turtles would scare the living beegesus out of you as all you would see is a huge shadow, first thing comes to mind? Shark, lol, but it would breech and breath and then you would spend the next 10 minutes cussing under your breath as a sigh of relief would somber in.
We would'nt fish near the docks, not even crab, cause at night, we swore that them crabs were glowing, and that wasn't normal!!! Lord knows what kind of radiation thingys came off of them ships.

An article written by Ron Brooks,

An End to Fishing as We Know it - Is it In Sight?

Saturday January 23, 2010

I was reading my National Fisherman, a commercial fishing oriented magazine today and the article on Red Snapper hit me right between the eyes. All my efforts have been looking at the red snapper debate from a recreational point of view. This article looked from a commercial fishing perspective.
If the rules being put in place are held up, it could mean that red snapper fishing on the U.S. Southeastern Atlantic coast could be stopped for as many as 35 years - yes that is 35 years.
Right now, the season is closed for red snapper and for all shallow water grouper in the Southeastern Atlantic Federal waters. But, this is just an interim rule while the Southeastern Atlantic Fisheries Management Council (SAFMC) decides on a permanent ruling for these species. Some of the options they are discussing include a deep water closure - from 240 feet on out - to all bottom fishing and/or a complete closure of all bottom fishing for specified areas of water from North Carolina to the Florida Keys.
I am no scientist, nor am I a fisheries biologist. But, I am a fisherman, and it pains me to think that the possibility that I will be prohibited from fishing in the future is very real. The "final" solution, once the population of these species are "sustainable is to have something called allocations. These would say rather than a bag limit on a particular species, you would be allowed to keep x number of fish, regardless of size or species. The bad part about this is that not everyone will get an allocation. There will only be so many to go around, and not every fisherman will get one. That's the way it was presented to me. So - what can you do? Contact your state and federal Representatives and Senators and let them know in no uncertain terms that you are not happy with (1) the way the NOAA and the SAFMC are handling the fishery, and (2) that the Magneson Stevens Act is bad legislation at a very bad time. Act now before they really do start taking away our fishing rights!
