Seven-day pass: $20 (down from $28)

You'll be able to snag the passes at the discounted prices by visiting Ventra kiosks at CTA train stations, through the Ventra app, on the Ventra website and via more than 1,000 retailers throughout the city that sell CTA passes.
This is good to know. I usually drive from my parents to Rosemont and catch the "L".

Love the Arboretum! They have so many great events. The trolls were very cool. And the Illuminations event around Christmas is always beautiful. But I think my favorite was when the sled dogs were there. All the puppies!!!

Default Going to be in Chicago on a Sunday, then check out State Street that great street...

Restaurants and bars figure prominently in a summer plan to close State Street, the famous strip through the Loop that’s home to the Chicago Theater, for a series of pedestrian-only dining, retail, and arts events dubbed Sundays on State. State will be blocked off to automobile traffic starting on July 11 from Lake to Madison to draw locals and visitors to the area for a block party-inspired gathering with food, drink, shopping, art events, and more.

If successful, and the city draws the right mix of crowds and vendors, this could be a regular summer occurrence with city officials teasing they could block off traffic for up to 12 Sundays. The Chicago Loop Alliance is accepting proposals for pop-ups, demonstrations, and classes — by May 26. Restaurant, bar, and coffeeshop owners are among those invited to apply. For example, organizers are looking for vendors like coffeeshops, offering suggestions like cold-brew coffee carts that could sell cooling drinks to passers-by.

The city will continue to enforce public health guidelines such as masking, social distancing, and capacity caps. When announcing the program last week, city officials said outdoor events would need to abide by a 15-person per 1,000 square foot rule. Over the weekend, several restaurants owners told Eater Chicago they had questions on how the city would enforce the mandate.

Last week, Mayor Lori Lightfoot also announced the return of Windy City Smokeout, Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises’ enormous barbecue and country music festival. Slated for July 8 through July 11, it will be Chicago’s first major outdoor festival since the pandemic began.

Default If you're going to be in Chicago soon....

Explore Dom’s Kitchen & Market, Chicago’s Massive New Grocery Emporium

The line separating restaurants and grocery stores further blurred during the pandemic. Without dining rooms full of customers, many restaurants (Pisolino, Daisies) embraced the general store model and began selling gourmet items, produce, and sauces. Meanwhile, traditional grocers enjoyed record profits with the general public cooking more at home after doctors told them to avoid restaurants to be safe.

But still, stores face stiff competition from online retailers like Amazon, and that’s something the braintrust behind Dom’s Kitchen & Market wanted to address even before COVID-19. The owners of Dom’s combine grocery store experience with venture capital and hope to open 25 locations in the Chicago area and beyond. The first location opened Tuesday morning at the corner of Diversey and Halsted on the border of Lincoln Park and Lakeview.

The space is meant to be experiential with Instagram-friendly lighting so shoppers can snap shots of dishes like the Fresh Prince of Chicago, a callout to Will Smith’s TV show that combines Chicago’s Italian beef with a Philly cheesesteak (skirt steak, pickled sweet peppers, fontina, giardiniera aioli). There are four restaurant stalls inside the space with a coffee bar that also serves wine and beer. A room with a skylight feels like a West Loop restaurant and there’s patio seats in front and a pickup window along Diversey marked by a loading zone where customers can hop out of their cars and quickly pick up special party orders like whole porchettas, charcuterie trays, and more.

That sounds really good. I always love a good beef sandwich. And I became a fan of cheese steaks while I lived in PA.

Default Frida Kahlo fan? If so, you might enjoy........

“Frida Kahlo: Timeless” Cleve Carney Museum of Art
Until Monday September 6

Featuring a collection of pieces on loan from the Museo Dolores Olmedo in Mexico City, “Frida Kahlo: Timeless” explores the life and work of one of the most well-known painters of the 20th century. With 26 original pieces on display, accompanied by a historical exhibit that dives into the details of Kahlo's life, visitors will be able to gain context for the artist's work, learning about the bus accident that led her to persue a career as an artist and her meeting (and marriage to) artist Diego Rivera. Additional items on display include reproductions of Kahlo's distinctive clothing, more than 100 photographs from throughout her life and a Kahlo-inspired garden. Presented in association with the McAninch Arts Center at the College of DuPage, this exhibition is on display at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art in Glen Ellyn.

Chicago Restaurants and Bars Fully Reopen After 15 Grueling Months. Masks, capacity limits, and social distancing are no longer required.

The threat of tragedy caused conflicting emotions between customers, restaurant owners, and workers. This has all led up to Friday — barflies can now freely pull up a stool at the bar or mingle with customers. Diners don’t have to worry about quickly masking up as servers stealthily appear. While each establishment has the option to continue social distancing, the rules are no longer mandatory in Chicago and Illinois as Friday marks entry in the final stage of Restore Illinois, the state’s COVID-19 recovery plan.

Default Fan of Christina Quarles, then catch her exhibit in Chicago..

Museum Of Contemporary Art Chicago 220 E Chicago Ave. Now until Sept 5th

Are the figures in a painting by Christina Quarles taking shape or dematerializing? Solidifying or dissolving? The viewer can’t be sure. That indeterminacy reflects the artist’s sense of who she is.

A mixed-race queer woman living in Los Angeles, Quarles was the breakout discovery of the New Museum’s “Trigger: Gender as a Tool and a Weapon” group show in 2017. In that setting, her paintings seemed to be addressing gender fluidity. But, as she told me then, it’s race, not gender, that has preoccupied her since childhood. “Mom is white, Dad is Black,” she explained. “I am fair-skinned and usually seen as white by white people, but I’m seen more as mixed identity in communities of color.” Her racial profile depends on the context of the moment. “My experience is firmly rooted in whiteness and Blackness, rather than a hybrid of the two,” she said.

Four years later, with her concerns more timely than ever, Quarles, 36, is having her largest solo museum show, which runs through August, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. (The exhibition will travel to the Frye Art Museum in Seattle.) “Legibility, the way we understand things, is through this either/or mentality, but the reality is we have a both/and situation,” “And that’s where a lot of my work comes from.” She endorses what she calls “the idea of ambiguity as an excess of information” and observes that “there can be more legs than would normally go with one torso” in her paintings. “The viewer’s desire to see a cohesive figure will override the ambiguity.”

Default Comic book fans, this opens on the 19th........

“Chicago Comics: 1960s to Now” Museum of Contemporary Art , 220 E Chicago Ave ( at Mies van der Rohe Way) Saturday June 19 2021 - Sunday October 3 2021.

Chicago has traditionally been a city where independent comic artists and cartoonists have thrived, thanks to a steady supply of art school students and graduates charting their own course in the medium. The latest Museum of Contemporary Art exhibition explores six decades of work by local artists, ranging from traditional strips to experimental longform pieces that buck conventions. With pieces from artists like Kerry James Marshall, Lynda Barry, and Chris Ware on display, this survey of comic art features work that hasn't been shown in museums before, offering a look at process of cartooning, the collaborations that it encourages and the creativity that Chicagoans have penciled (and inked) into the world.

Default It's back..........

Ravinia Festival 2021 runs from July 5 through September 24. Takes place at Ravinia Park (418 Sheridan Road) in Highland Park, Illinois. (The easiest way to make the trip from inside Chicago city limits is to take Metra's Union Pacific North Line to the Ravinia Park stop, which drops passengers off directly in front of the venue's gates).

After taking a year off, the Ravinia Festival is back in action this summer, joining other warm-weather traditions like Chicago summer festivals and outdoor bars and patios. You'll once again be able to pack a picnic basket, hop on the Metra and enjoy an evening of live music at the annual Ravinia Festival. The Highland Park venue is presenting a slightly truncated version of its usual array of concerts, ranging from reunited classic rock bands to orchestral performances.

World Naked Bike Ride Saturday August 14 2021

Like most large-scale gatherings, the Chicago edition of the World Naked Bike Ride took a year off in 2020—but organizers are planning a return to the streets in 2021. Traditionally, the clothing-optional ride takes place in June, but this year's festivities are being pushed back to August, when more Chicagoans will hopefully be fully vaccinated and events like street and music festivals are set to resume.

The bare-as-you-dare event (full frontal nudity is illegal in Chicago) seeks to raise awareness of the world's dependence on oil while promoting an environmentally-friendly mode of transportation. Details of the gathering and ride are typically released in the week before the event takes place, but cyclists can expect to congregate between 6 and 8pm before pedaling through the city on 14-mile, four-hour ride.

Keep an eye on the Chicago Naked Ride website for additional details, including the best spots for spectators.
