Default If you're going to be visiting Chicago........

Chicago’s mask mandate returned Friday in public indoor spaces, which means local restaurant and bar patrons are once again required to wear facial coverings regardless of vaccination status. Masks aren’t required on outdoor patios, as health experts say open-air spaces decrease the risk of transmission, but otherwise diners age two and older should only remove them when “actively eating or drinking.”

Officials have not reinstated social distancing rules at this point, but they are encouraging venues to space out indoor dining rooms as much as possible. The measures align with a late-July guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that recommended masking up indoors.

Printers Row Lit Fest Sep 11Sep 12, 2021 Various locations throughout Chicago

Calling all book nerds! The Midwest’s biggest free outdoor literary festival returns this September for its 36th year with everything from a huge outdoor book market spanning five blocks to talks with artists and authors, including a discussion with Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winner Colson Whitehead (who replaces Ta-Nehisi Coates as headliner). Other highlights range from a BookTok panel (examining the rise of book reviewers on TikTok) to a commemorative 9/11 event with Divided by Terror: American Patriotism after 9/11 author John Bodnar and University of Illinois Chicago professor/writer Nadine Naber, plus events with Michelle Duster (great-granddaughter of Ida B. Wells and author of biography Ida B. the Queen: The Extraordinary Life and Legacy of Ida B. Wells) and Elly Fishman (Refugee High: Coming of Age in America).

Curious about what else to expect from the fest this year? Check out the rest of the 2021 lineup.

George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic + Liquid Soul Music, Funk, soul and disco Temperance Beer Company , Evanston IL Sunday September 5 2021

George Clinton (a.k.a. the Godfather of Funk) recently threatened to retire from touring with Parliament Funkadelic entirely, but he simply can't resist the groove. The 80-year-old frontman recently announced his "un-retirement" to Rolling Stone, stating "You’re gonna have to drag me off." There's no better time to catch the modern incarnation of P-Funk, which incorporates hip-hop arrangements and dancing contortionists alongside renditions of classic tracks like "One Nation Under a Groove" and "Give Up the Funk." During the band's headlining sets at the Out of Space festival, Chicago jazz fusion ensemble Liquid Soul supports.

Default Jazz lovers.........

Hyde Park Jazz Festival Saturday September 25 2021 - Sunday September 26 2021.

The Hyde Park Jazz Festival adapted to the times last September and hosted a series of outdoor shows. The beloved neighborhood jazz festival typically takes place at venues throughout Hyde Park, but most performance will once again take place outdoors this year—with the possible exception of a couple of shows inside the Logan Center. Local drummer and bandleader Makaya McCraven will debut a new piece commissioned by the festival on Saturday, September 25. Other highlights of this year's programming includes sets from saxophonist Isaiah Collier, violinist Tomeka Reid, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and vocalist Dee Alexander accompanied by the Metropolitan Jazz Octet. As ususal, all performances are free to attend.

The 2021 Chicago Pride Parade has been canceled again

The parade, which was originally postponed to October 3, will return next June. As of right now, there’s no word on whether Chicago Pride Fest—the two-day celebration that typically coincides with the parade, which was also pushed to October—will continue this year.

Default IF you're looking for fun.............

Chicago was just voted the 2nd most beautiful city in the world! Written by Emma KruppThursday September 9 2021.

Chicago was just ranked the second most beautiful city in the world (and the first in North America) by 27,000 Time Out Index survey voters from across the globe.

How do we know this, you ask? A whopping 79 percent of voters—a percentage second only to Prague—deemed the city beautiful, beating out famously gorgeous spots like Paris (which ranked third), Amsterdam and Vienna. Chicago doesn't ordinarily get a lot of attention for its beauty, but the ranking makes sense when you consider our abundance of public parkland, stunning architecture and famously clean streets (thanks alleys!), plus our proximity to the glittering shores of Lake Michigan. For proof, look no further than beautiful gardens tucked away in Jackson Park and the South Shore Cultural Center, or the many lovely vantage points to check out views of the skyline or even our most stunning restaurant spaces. It's like our adopted hometown architect Frank Lloyd Wright once said: "Eventually, I think Chicago will be the most beautiful great city left in the world."

But wait, there's more! Time Out Index survey respondents also voted Chicago the second most fun city in the world and the second best city for "community spirit" over the past year (Tel Aviv and Manchester were the first-place winners in those categories, respectively). We were also deemed the third friendliest city—perhaps unsurprising, given our status as a Midwestern metropolis—and an especially good spot for eating and drinking, according to 82 percent of respondents.

Default Another Oct event.......

Apple Fest to return to Lincoln Square in October. Apple Fest will take place on October 2–3 from 9am to 6pm in Lincoln Square.

The two-day, fall-centric festival, now in its 34th year, stretches from Lawrence to Wilson Avenues, where a series of food vendors, farmers market-style stalls, activity stations and music stages will line the street. As always, apples are the star of the show: Whether you want to feast on apple brats, apple bread pudding, candied apple bacon, apple cheddar scones, apple-cinnamon tamales, apple-stuffed grilled cheese or apple cider doughnuts, you're sure to find a meal to satisfy your apple cravings, with selections from vendors like Gayle V's Best Ever Grilled Cheese, Borelli's, Tamales Express and more.

You can wash all the delicious food down with cider from local outfits like The Northman, Right Bee and Eris, plus local and national breweries offering apple-infused beer (including A Bushel of Apples, a caramel apple-flavored blonde ale from Phase Three Brewing Company and Affy Tapple). Want to try your hand at making your own apple-stuffed treats at home? You'll also be able to buy fresh apples and cider from farms across the Midwest, including Mick Klug Farm, Phil Foster Farm and Los Rodriguez Farm, plus other fresh veggies and farm-made goods.

“Apple Fest is always Chicagoans’ sign that fall is here and to stock up on their favorite fall goodies to ring in the season,” said Rudy Flores, executive director of Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, said in a news release.

Open House Chicago Set To Make In-Person Comeback. Get a Sneak Peek at New Sites.

After focusing on virtual and outdoor programming in 2020, Open House Chicago will return to form in 2021, once again offering in-person, behind-the-scenes access to buildings and spaces normally off-limits to the public.
The free two-day architecture festival, produced by the Chicago Architecture Center for the 11th year, is scheduled for Oct. 16-17.

More than 100 venues across Chicago and adjacent suburbs will open their doors to visitors over the course of the event, from skyscrapers to cultural centers, private clubs to rooftop farms. An online searchable database will be continuously updated as sites and details are added.

“Chicagoans love their city, and Open House Chicago is a reflection of that passion,” said Lynn Osmond, president and CEO of the Chicago Architecture Center, in a statement.
