Dog Stories
Blossom's personal policy is not to rise prior to 10am. She's an 8 year old Shih Tzu.
I have a queen sized bed and it's so high off the ground I have to lift Blossom and Rosie up and down off of the bed. Blossom's way of not getting up early is to run across to the other side of the bed where I can't reach her. Only because it's a bed (with a soft mattress) and thick comforters, she looks like she's snow shoeing through the bed. |

I could tell lots of stories about my girl. She is a staffy/bullmastiff/ridgeback and she will be 5 in april. Her name is tess. My ex and I got her together and owing to the fact that tess was a royal pain in the proverbial when we broke up, i got to keep her.
I could not have asked for a better dog. She is an amazing companion, very loyal and almost too protective. When I go outside she runs out onto the grass to chase and bark at the (apparently big scary and threatening) birds using my birdbath and the little fluffball dogs my neighbours have that can't get under the fence.. any more. Tess is an amazing people dog and wonderful with children. She has learnt to socialise with other dogs and as long as they are not on her property or trying to mount her she is very good. The boys love her. It's crazy. I could go on. I love my big baby girl. |

We got about 15" of snow the other day and before I could grab the snow shovel my little dog jumped off the step and landed in the snow which came to the top of her back She was in a hole and turned to look at me like what am I supposed to do now?
I also have a high bed and Mattie does the same thing. Runs to the other side, rolls over on her back so I have to slide her over which leads to a belly rub and she knows it.

Several folks who have been in our home already know what happens if you hold your pointer finger up at our Golden Retriever and say, "My finger....IN YOUR BUTT!"
Needless to say, the Vet traumatized her years ago and she's never forgotten it! Lolol

I recall a dog in a previous life whose name I can't recall. However, what I do recall, is when asked "What do ladies do for diamonds?" She rolled on her back, legs akimbo, waiting for a tummy tickle.

What happens when neighbors don't mend fences...
I had a Shih Tzu, Gidget, who was infamous with the local police. Her mug shot included her being held in the palm of an officer's hand, bound in her doggie diaper and with her rolling ball (the small kind with bells inside that are meant for cats) in her mouth.
Her crime? She ripped open the muzzle of a Rottie mix that was trying to get under her fence and to her and her brother, Brodie. She was about 6-7 lbs. The Rottie was well over 100 lbs. Total. Badass. |

Blossom's new low
As usual, she wouldn't get out of bed, which really aggravates her baby sister.
Rosie and I were enjoying Nilla Wafers out in the living room, and Blossom began whining so I thought she wanted to get down off the bed. Nope. She refused. She just wanted to be served a cookie in bed. |

To be all green, I got these little bowls that biodegrade. Rosie eats her food in them..and then promptly chews up the bowls too.

My small dog, Willy, and my roommate's small dog, Skippy (a.k.a. The boys) are always having power struggles. And rarely can we have them sharing a recliner, lap, crate or bed without poor Skippy having to show his teeth and tell Willy " This is MY DADDY'S LAP! GET OFF!"... I usually can't have them on my lap because they won't settle down and they hurt my legs. ...When they play, Willy will try to dominate Skippy ...but Skippy either bares his teeth or PEES on Willy or his toys!! Like saying "Here! Take this !!"
We also have Tashi...a sweet, playful, gentle, CLUELESS, quirky female who doesn't do The Power Struggle wish the boys...if they get on her nerves, she just swings her butt around fast and hard and knocks them around. It's a game to her....out of no where, WHAM!! Willy get slammed or Skippy goes rolling over! She's a little Ox and doesn't know her size or power...and when she jumps on your lap, it's like getting hit in the belly or legs with a25 pound sack of potatoes! Now imagine being on a recliner with they boys about to have a power struggle and she jumps up and starts slamming that but around to knock the boys off your lap as she jumps in your face for kisses....GRACEFUL does not describe Tashi....It's amazing neither one of us get bruised from her antics. This morning I woke at 3am from nightmares and hot flashes...I'm still sad over losing my roommate's big dog yesterday...so when I went back to bed, I wanted to cuddle my furbabies...this is a RARE moment...Willy tucked in tight on one side, Skippy on the other in his "Dippy Diaper" (because he gets up after you're sleeping to mark or leave prizes) with his feet in air, his warm little body tucked in next to my ribs... Tashi at my feet with her head on my ankle ...each one SNORING and having little puppy dreams... I sent a text to my roommate that I'm a PUPPY SANDWICH!! I never imagined I could love anyone so much as I do these babies!

Great stories one and all!
This is a great thread. I doff me hat to Butterbean for starting it.
I have many fur friends as well as one feathered friend. Truly many, many delightful stories to share. My first GSD who loved me and I resided in Dallas in the mid 90's. Cedar Springs area, was quite diverse. 'Marco' and I took long walks in the hood. One day we hear a little soft mewling coming from the bushes. Marco needing to investigate (naturally) found a kitten who could not have been very old. S/he looked sickly, her/his eyes were goopy. Mind you, Marco was a HUGE Shepherd. We approached the little thing, Marco sensed the kitteh was in trouble and began licking kitty all over. He licked the goop off (his) eyes and after a few minutes he gently put kitteh in his mouth. I was petrified for a moment! "Don't hurt the kitteh!"I thought. Long story short, the vet gave us a clean bill of health to "Butchkins." We kept Butchkins for a couple of months and Marco nursed him back to health. Talk about Davey and Goliath. They played for hours together and unsurprisinigly, Butchkins nearly ended up in Marco's mouth at each play session. Butchkins, the fearless tough furball would be slimy and wet from paw to tail. Awwwww Butchkins found his forever home with an assistant at the clinic. What fond memories of him.

We have two pups Phoebe a Whippet-Jack Russel and Gracie a German Sheppard- terrier both are rescues Phoebe was dropped in a shelter as soon as she was weened her mom had been a prized Whippet who got into trouble with a Jack from the wrong side of the tracks. Phoebe was so timid shy and scared of people. And Grace was a stray who had a leg that never properly formed she was abused as a pup the rescue that took her in said she did not even know how to walk properly on her 3 legs she is very wary of people and kind of skittish. we got Phoebe at 7 months and Grace at 11 months and you would think they have been together all of their lives. Phoebe is fast like crazy fast but she slows down for Grace when they are out side to let Grace catch her but then again Grace is deceptively fast. they both have come out of their shells and Phoebe is my velcro pup she even gets up on my back and drapes her paws around my neck to give hugs Grace is our protector if she feels Phoebe is threatened she will be right there they both love the snow and burrow in it chasing each other Grace also has gas a lot snd loves to get her mommie with it

Another Marco Tail
Marco enjoyed walks to a local then closed schoolyard. Since his return from an intensive 8 week obedience and security training center, I was anxious to see how smart(er) he was after the classes.
As an aside, this training program did not allow for visits by owners at all. So, you dropped off your 4 month pup to be left in the hands of trainers. THAT was tough! http://www.liveoakkennel.com/ Anyway, at the playground, he was so well trained I could take him off his lead for ball play, stick play etc... One day, we were having such a fine time, me throwing, Marco retrieving. On a throw, the ball disappeared in the grass, I run toward where I thought it was and Marco circled up behind me and totally KNOCKED ME DOWN. YES! He was obviously confused about the obedience and security thing momentarily. The look on his face when he realized he had hurt me. In my extreme pain, I felt sorry for him lol. He dislocated my left shoulder, bruised ribs, black eye and scrapes to face. After that comedy routine, he was so contrite, he never ever had to be on a leash going anywhere. It would appear to anyone that he was glued to my left hip. I am droning on and on......anyway, I miss and love you Marco!

Poor Rosie threw up on a blanket this morning so I've been laundering that. She has an indigestion issue and the vet has her on Pepcid tablets.
Blossom, on the other hand, had a lovely morning. She was all cuddly, and rolling around, and using her paw to flit her ear. She's not always like that. She can be a crab ass. lol |

Mr. Nibbs is a chuaweenie who follows me everywhere and sleeps at the foot of our bed on his blankie.
When we moved into our new house we bought a "new" king-sized antique bed for our huge bedroom...you guessed it, Mr. nibbs can't jump onto the bed on his own. Thank goodness Petco sells carpeted steps for height challanged dogs! LOL Last edited by MsTinkerbelly; 02-11-2014 at 11:08 PM. |

The Way-Back Machine With Marco.
Marco was trained for personal protection because my business was sold and we were headed to Guatemala. Sold ALL personal belongings and purchased a conversion van, promptly named "Roxanne." (sing it Sting)
To be young, to be intrepid, and both at the same time. Read about the potential for 'safety' issues driving through Mexico and then Guatemala, hence Marco was da man! Animals for pets are not treated with the same shall we say....enthusiasm in Mexico. I knew I had to have a bad-ass. At the first of about 3785 security checks, some with NO warning, a squadron of soldiers in all black holding nasty looking weapons motioned us to stop. They asked for all necessary documents, including the paperwork for Marco, and the Shih-Tzu. Needles to say, one reads and hears about these vehicle stops but until you experience it first-hand, you have NO idea how unsettling it is. Marco, was full attention. He did not pant, he did not bark. When asked to open all the van doors for inspection, Marco complied. The soldiers finally noticing Marco froze momentarily. Fuck I didn't know if they were going to shoot him, take him....what? Well, the soldiers were in awe of Marco, didn't touch him, but relaxing their weapons in a not so confrontational way was a good thing. Marco didn't blink for what it seemed a very, very long 10 minutes or so. After all the papers were deemed in order, only after I drove on did Marco relax. He did everything he was trained to do! And by proxy, the Shih-Tzu as well. We were old hat for the next gazillion security stops. Marco commanded respect from the young male soldiers. Quite a journey.

Teddy Bear cuts is one of my favorite on a Shih-Tzu. Easy to keep clean and quite the chick-magnet out in public. *chuckles
My China-Blue had Teddy Bear cuts as often as she could, except when In Guate....I did the best I could China-Bluuuuuuuuues. (forgive me) The housekeeper in Guate absolutely adored her. It took a while for her get over the shock of hanging out with Gringos who treated a DOG like a Queen. After a few weeks, I caught (Maria) playing with China. She was giggling....squeeeee. The culture In Guatemala is not for anyone who loves animals. I don't want to discuss it here, but I WILL say if you are easily riled by the mistreatment of animals. DO NOT VISIT. China and Marco were the welcome committee for the restaurant I owned and operated.

Our princess
Ruff and I got our Babygirl from my mom. She is a three year old, white and tan long haired Chihuahua. She loves to give us kisses and jump on our heads at 3am. It's cute when I come home from work and she has her favorite sock monkey toy in her mouth and growling at the same time. She has stood up to a Staffirdshire dog who tried to attack me. Even though she weighs all of four pounds, in her mind, she is a big dog. She loves belly rubs and treats.
