Enjoy!

Well I don't know about all women but I do know what I love and they are pretty universal regardless of whom I'm going to visit and aren't not required. I do get all excited when I find any one of the following:
(I am thinking if I'm going over to someone's house to hang out for a while or to spend a week)
A TV in the guest room is wonderful, so is a fan....
I actually do like TVs in every room in the house cuz I'm into CNN like that.
I like fresh cut flowers.
I love the handpushy handsoap at every sink (no washing my hands with dawn isn't the same thing!)
An air hockey table is nice or just a pool (sniff cuz I don't have one)...or access to a computer in case I didn't bring my laptop. :)
(I have an air hockey table ;))
Control over the remote....no I really don't want to watch fishing shows all week or MTV or ESPNs 1-30. (really.)
Ice tea. <---if anyone knows me well enough that I'm going to their house then this is already in the fridge and ready.
I stayed at a good friend of mine's house in Florida last year and she had all the things that she had in her bathroom in the guest bathroom too which was really nice. So there were q-tips, neosporin, bandaids, tylenol....ect. I came home and did the same in my guest bathroom. I thought it was really thoughtful and perfect so guests didn't need to ask for it.

Material things are nice but there have been plenty of times in my life when I couldn't afford much. I've never had any woman come to my house to watch my tv and leave feeling unhappy or unsatisfied.

I like to leave my underwear on the bathroom floor, to give her something to do, you know, so she can feel womanly.
Wrong list. That goes on the list of things to make partners bitter and, in time, vengeful.

I would like to see
cleanliness is a good sign..but OCD cleanliness is a red flag
dogs and cats are good..snakes are not.
food in the fridge that is not processed or solely microwavable.
ecofriendly environment is important too. Do you recycle? Are you concerned about the world?
lack of alcohol and drug culture. A bottle of wine or a small amount of beer is ok. Three bars in the house and a fridge just for the beer is not
pretty soaps set out for my visit in MY bathroom
my own coffee mug
something to do with horses somewhere in the house
fresh sheets
a nice library even if you own one of those kendall things. Good lord I still dont know what an ipod is and you all are doing something weird with books like you did with music..stop it!
if you use scented candles, incense, etc, none of it is vanilla because you know and havent forgotten it makes me gag
groceries. Let me make you dinner or bake something...
you. If I come to you, spend time with me. Its you I want...thats why I am there...

The following is what I, as a (butch) woman have (or not) in my house:
I don't drink alcohol. No alcohol in my house.
I work with dogs every day. No dogs (or cats or critters) in my house.
I love to cook. I have a well stocked pantry and fridge. I don't like anyone messing around in my kitchen, although I will make exceptions on occasion and try not to lose my mind in the process. I prefer to cook and you do the dishes.
I'm not crafty or creative in that sense. No macrame plant hangers..........actually no plants in my house at this time. Maybe I will have them again at some time.
Most all my books are in storage. I live in a studio apartment.
I have a double bed.....I live in a studio apartment. What idiot would not put clean sheets on the bed if you have a date coming over for supper?
My house is clean, especially the bathroom and kitchen.
I live in CA and have been recycling for at least 20 years.
I can tolerate limited smelly candles, incense. I do have some in my house. I prefer fresh air to smelly stuff.
I have bubble bath stuff because I like to take a bubble bath on occasion. It's not really smelly though. I have a 'dyke' labeled pushy thingy soap dispenser in my bathroom. Don't have that at my kitchen sink.
I have plenty of coffee mugs of all sizes. Pick what you want for this stay.
I have a nice deck with a little creek gurgling. This creek runs behind my building and you can hear it at night when all is quiet.
Maybe, later, I will post what I want to see in a femme's house. We will both be women so that well be an interesting comparison on what different types of women want in their home.

This thread may be depressing me.
I am, how shall I say this... spartan. Perhaps infamously so. (SHUT IT JUNE).
I'm not opposed to having nice things or things especially for the mythical "her", but I like everything in my home to serve a purpose. There's very little in my home that is extraneous.
I prefer my Kindle to books. I prefer my Netflix via Wii to DVDs. I think you get the idea... simple and uncluttered.
Perhaps to a fault.

How do you share a kindle?
Simple. I don't. For me convenience trumps loanability. I travel far too much to carry books with me. Kindle is with me all the time.
Then again I did gift someone with my "old" Kindle which is still attached to my Amazon account and she's able to read all of the books I've bought. But that's just one person.

Being a smart guy, I let my wife pick our house.
I saw it for the first time when I flew to the south from California to do the walk through and sign the deed paperwork.
So that little ditty is covered.
I don't care whats in it, or what colors she picks... or how she wants furniture arranged.
The house is hers, the garage, yard and shop is all MINE. :cheesy:
As long as I pick up after myself, I don't face the :bananasplit:
I dont have a top 10, but she does.:police:
LOL. Sounds like me, except instead of garage, yard and shop I have an office and "man cave" (for cigars and such) :cheesy:

Hey, :(
Can I have a garage with a shop - or at least a LARGE shed- for all my power tools AND a small loft for my art stuff?
Just askin' ;) for when I'm asked to do another oil change. I'll be sure to put my vanity with all my "femmie" stuff up in the art loft.
Andrew,
Can I put extra power strips down on my Xmas list?

My place is an expression of me... so of course it is charming...
I have made my own soap for years now so yes, you will get fresh soap just for you!
I also make my own trailmix which all seem to enjoy.
I have an organic garden which provides tasty goodies for our meals.
I do keep my space reasonably clean as I never want to be embarassed to bring home a guest... LoL
Zima the wonder dog (with one eye and half of one ear missing) is always a hit with everyone! I call her the Snuggle Smuggler as even people who don't like dogs find themselves petting on her and doting on her.
Then best of all - in my space - you get ME and my sunny, cheerful personality!
Peace and Blessings,

Glycerin soap with only natural oils and scents. Haven't tried adding any dried herbs yet, but thought I might this year.
Garden is small and simple. Heirloom tomatoes, green beans, cukes, putting in an asperagus bed and some blackberry bushes this year. I am in a new space so am just getting it going - I know - a little late but it will be better than nothing... and great for next year!

different women (do you mean femmes, Andrew?) respond differently to things that I have in my house. These are the things that garner a response:
books - they are everywhere and shelved in library sized bookcases
music and videos (I am an audiophile)
a big kitchen (it is big enough to dance in) that is well stocked
wine selection
critters, including a "puppy" (well, she is 7, but will always be my puppy)
photographs that I have taken and those others have taken (particularly of the Middle East)
they seem to like the decor and the way the rooms are laid out
I don't have anything to do with it, but the way the morning sun illuminates the kitchen.
I don't think that I managed 10 things <shrugs>, but these are the things that come to mind as I recollect comments made by women who come to my house.

when one is invited into my home:
drool towels..not for them to use because they drool, but to protect them from the infamous newf drool. Lay it in your lap and wait..especially when they come to tell you how good the water tasted out of the toilet bowl...and dont think I havent tried everything to keep them from doing that...I have...they win. Love me, love my newfs...
really nice long towels if they are staying overnite
their own bedroom..because at this point in time, I am not sharing beds.
reading material in the bathroom of his choice...I have three baths. Pick one and the material will appear...
a lint brush that will also remove cat and dog hair...
coffee in the morning made as they prefer it, in a cup that will be designated as his whenever he comes to visit and one I will use in the mornings sometimes when I am particularly missing him
a throne. This doesnt happen overnite. It takes him time to feel at home and to chose his place of honor. Some like to sit at the head of the table. Some like the end of the sectional. Some prefer a recliner. As long as its not MY throne, it becomes theirs when they come back.
beside his throne, a place of altar...things he needs...specific to him. Perhaps the tv guide and the remote. Or his favorite book he is working through on his visits to me. Or a bag of lemon drops and horehounds because he cant find them where he lives. Something, anything that says that I lovingly meet his needs
quietness. My house is very quiet. I dont often watch tv. I dont listen to alot of music. Even my appliances run quietly. It is a way of surrounding myself in the Present and keeping myself there. In the quiet of my home, he would find himself Present with me and I with him. In the early times of wooing, this is especially important. In order to build knowledge of the soul of another person, you really need to be Present with them in the Stillness so that you know you are meeting their Core and not their surroundings.
and in between the times of quietness, there will be times of his and her pleasures...does he like to watch Bruce Willis movies and tv shows (Moonlighting was wonderful!) Will he watch SeaBiscuit with me? Will we put on some country music and dance slow and close, as someone put it once, buckle rubbing music? Does he want to pop in a video game (horrors! I wouldnt know what to do if this happened!) or spend time on the computer? moments of activity to please him and myself, beyond and outside of the other...

Damn you are very accommodating Girl!
I'm with you on the sleeping. I prefer to sleep alone. They would get their own bedroom, towels, etc.
BUT I'd show them where the coffee is and how I like it. I'd then give them a list of chores to do around the farm and if all went well I'd cook an awesome meal, wear something very pretty and he's be rubbing my feet whilst I perch on that throne! lol
Slow dancing sounds nice. If he was a really good boy I might even dance for him. (wink)
I love candles, nag champa, I like my space to be eclectic and have a nice spiritual feel about it . I am the Goddess of my domain and anyone who enters does so symbiotic with everything here. He must approach with great care, respect and compassion. I'm totally in no nonsense mood these days. Notice the hoops at the entrance of my long driveway.

When we were visiting back and forth, all I needed was a clean bed, a working shower, and a big, clean towel. Some breakfast food in the fridge and a working TV somewhere in the place were also nice. All the rest was icing on the cake.

For ll the things I have in the house, its all just stuff..nice stuff but stuff just the same.I would be just as happy liveing way out in the country in a log cabin with a pot bellied stove and a home made bed.I do really live a more simple quiet life, the tv I watch is more to the tune of discovery, national geo, syfy, hallmark ect.I dont care to watch anything with blood n guts or things that are cruel and distasteful...keeps my mind at a calmer pace..use to horror shows were like u knew it was just a show but a bit scary ..now they are just to real for me to watch,I dont care to much for tear jerker movies either.
I have one lonely fern hanging is a basket that is well taken care of,but as im not good at growing thigs...black thimb hear..I would like to plant some fruit trees in the yard.I do have a small herb guarden growing in a large kids wagon in pots so if the weather isnt good I can take them out of harms way.
I haved always taken care of others but really have no idea how it would feel to have someone do that for me.

I like different types of Tea stocked in my Kitchen, I'm not fond of herbals..
I also like picking out Unique coffee mugs & Cups in small stores, so...take a pick...
I don't bother with spice racks, whatever spice I need, it must be accessible, and of course Functional...
I do stock up on scented candles *in case the Electric fails*, my preference is citrus n Sage, or whatever grabs my attention at the time of Purchase {I avoid fruity/food smells because that just makes me thirsty/hungry}
It's not very often I buy "incense", for 2 reasons, a} I'm asthmatic b} There has to be a compelling reason to buy it {prayer/ritual}...
I very rarely smoke, for obvious reason, if the visitor does, I'll explain and kindly show them to a part of the house where they *can*{outside, by the tree, if it's a pleasant day}...
I haz deh Ferrets, love me, love my fuzzies...
Books...Everywhere, in every room, of almost every subject, Books, drive-you-nuts-at-every-corner...Books.
My bathroom is small, but very clean[a mandatory, a MUST, borderline OCD!!!!] and comfortable, when on the phone with my boi, we refer to it as My "office"...And yes, I'm also picky about the TP....
There's no plants INSIDE, cuz of ~points to Ferrets, and Dog~ and I'm working on figuring what to plant above ground outdoors {my landlord has a stupid policy, if u Do get permission to plant anything, it has to stay there}
Same deal with my Hammock {fits 2 people, max weight 350 pds}
My food pantry stocks whatever tickles my fancy at purchase time..IBC root beer is a must, or creme soda, as is Pepperidge Farms orange Milanos...
Like Toughy, I don't use sanitary pads of any kind...Walking thru that aisle in itself is a very awkward experience for me, so...I'll happily visit the home improv. section while u browse kotex...
I'm still working on my Deck...
it shall be ....eventually...my magnum opus -strut- {if i dont skip town}
If I were invited into a guy's home for the first time....what I would love to see is/are:
~Books
~Tasteful art on the walls/shelves
~A clean bathroom (toilet paper/over, please....clean towels even hung, etc.)
~A home that reflects the person I have come to know (or believe I know)
~Simple, tasteful class.....extravagance is not needed to impress me ~ good taste is.
~The bed will be made (not that I would see it that first visit, but I would enjoy/appreciate a 'tour')
~A pleasant scent in the home
~A sense of pride in the owner's surroundings (again, that doesn't mean extravagance or tons of worldly possessions)
~A welcoming entry
Something like that.

you would think keeping the lid down would fix it. But a big knows no barriers, and they (the newf breed) are so genteel and honest of a personality, that they dont understand that it is wrong to drink from the inside watering hole. In fact, they come up to me and thank me for giving them such fresh cold water..as it drips out of the flews of their mouth. I have watched my newfie slide her nose under the lid and just slide her face down to drink. She didnt even bother to lift it up to stay. She figures if I want the seat down, the least she can do for such an accomodating Missus, is to slide the lid back down when she is done.
The newf is a water dog. Puppies fall asleep with their heads in water bowls. Adults join kids in their wading pools. Unlike finicky little dogs who cannot stand to step in water puddles, mine walk and plod right in them.
I have even tried to duct tape the lid and seat down. LOL. Oh no...they just have to work a little harder at it. And Story lays down in front of the bowl until its fixed so she can drink. Patience is her middle name and she can sit there for hours.
When I clean the bowl I literally have to lock her out of the bathroom. I could do that all the time, but the bathroom floor is the coolest tile there is. Being a long haired double coated breed adapted for weathers from Newfoundland Canada, cool tiles are cherished ground...
So i leave the seat and lid up and they drink. People who find a problem with this, well, sorry. Thats why I live alone...I wont let anyone tell me they love me and then turn around and berate my newf. Love me. Love my toilet drinking long tendrils of drool, smiling newfies!

I'm just kind of curious about something. A couple of femmes have used 'he' and 'him' when talking about what they might do for butches who come to visit. Since, at least for the most part, 'he' is not the default pronoun for butch folk on this site, I have a question.
Does the use of 'he' in your posts mean you are talking about a transman and/or a male id'd butch? I have to assume that, because you certainly can't be talking about what you would do for a butch woman while using male pronouns. I must also assume you don't date butch women. If butch women are also in your realm of dating, you might try s/he as an inclusive way to use pronouns.
(and S/He is also a great book by Minnie Bruce Pratt.........a kick ass femme who has written some great stuff)

My sweetie hasn't yet been to visit me at my home, as much as I would like that. Because of work and child commitments, I'm the one logging the frequent flyer miles. :flying:
There are some sweet things she does for me when I'm there....and some I try to do for her...
:rrose: She always has diet coke and doritos...my two big weaknesses
:rrose: She is my chauffeur to the beach :beachkids: ...not in the house, but still a biggie :)
:rrose: scented candles
:rrose: and more important than anything else....her attention, affection and love
And for her....I try to make her a home-cooked meal (when she lets me :) ), bake some brownies or cookies...and give her a massage.

So, Thinker -- Tell us. What did you used to like to have when you were entertaining "The Lay-day's"? You know, before you got hitched.
Ohhhhhh.....let's see...
I don't know that it was any different for a lady caller than it would have been or has been for guests in general.
I always started out by finding what she wanted to have in the house (bathroom products, drinks, breakfast items). I made sure she had access to whatever she needed in the bathroom and that clean, fresh towels and linens were ready.
I once read that having, for example, towels out and ready for the guest was a big way to show her that she was welcome (could be him or her, obviously).....a guest shouldn't have to ask for things such as towels, toothpaste, etc... It should all be easily accessible.
I would have an extra blanket in the room, water beside the bed, a couple different shampoos and soaps... I learned the hard way (getting shamed once by a lady) to make at least one drawer available, plus room in the closet.
Really, it's the same as I do for guests we have in our home today.
I remember........a gazillion years ago......that a lady came to visit me (local situation...just a day visit). My best friend roommate at the time waited a good amount of time before finally offering the girl something to drink.
Because I never did!!!
I sucked at that sort of thing and didn't know the first thing about being a host. I think I was about 22 or 23. That incident was seared in my mind forever, and I made sure I did what I could to be a good and welcoming host.
You're always at a disadvantage when not on your home turf, so it's really huge for the host to do every possible thing to make the guest feel at ease and welcome. ...whether the visit is for "romance" or friendship or family.

I certainly use "he" for all butches... if they tell me that they prefer "she" I will use the title out of courtesy, but to me butch is "he", femme "she". This has held true for all of the butches and transguys I've known/dated, including those that identified as women. And in the case of the female identified butches I've known/dated, they understood and were comfortable with the fact that the "he" pronoun to me, and to them themselves in their interactions with me, honoured their butchness rather than their feminity.
Also not sure that we can assume that we know what the default pronoun is for all of the butches on this site.
Each to their own, diversity does make the world go round.

I'll bite.
When I am not referring to a specific person, I do use he because that's the majority rule in my life. The majority of people I've partnered with, and tend to partner with, prefer he or hy over she.
As you mentioned, using he as a pronoun for a butch woman is not appropriate. If I were partnered with a butch woman or was making specific reference to someone I know who identifies as a butch woman, I would make sure to address them accordingly, whether it be she, shy, zi, ze, or whatever feels right to them.
Vixen, I certainly hope that your post wasn't made just to stir the pot. I chose not to quote it when answering you because, even though I've never had to fight within this community for my identity to be acknowledged, I found it offensive. I can be pretty dull about what's going on in others' heads, so if I'm up in arms about this, I can only imagine how hurtful your words are to other members of our community.

My answer to this thread.
Common sense!
Being clean is not something to have for a woman or anyone for that matter it is the right thing to do. Keep clean sheets, bathroom, kitchens, etc for yourself and to show respect for others who may share your space.
Have the things that show your personality. If the woman loves you it is because of who you are, so must likely she is going to love your place.
Have things that she has requested, in case of a visit.
What you find in my home are pieces of me, my books, music, things that friends and family have given me, and the things that I enjoy like wine, coffee, and more books.

Since this thread is in The Trans Zone, and since I am primarily attracted to male~identified butches and/or transmen, I used "guy" (I believe) in my particular post. I did not include 'she' because I didn't feel the need to be inclusive.... as this is The Trans Zone.

MsVixen just makes me mostly disgusted. I'm not at all surprised by her ignorance and lack of respect. However, that is not the first time a femme has said "all butches are he' to me...........the difference with this one is I read the words instead of them being said to my face. And it's not even the first time I have read those words.

I almost fell over when I heard that Tipper and Al Gore were separating after 40 years of marriage. Wow. And to think that most of us would bend over backwards to make each other feel welcome just by talking online, meeting at bashes, parties, talking on the phone, and so on.
I have been especially pleased to find a nice deep tub and lots of bath goodies readily at hand. I rather like cluttered when it feels comfy and well-stocked, but I am sort of a brambly hedge mouse like that.

Boardgames and dice somewhere in the house
Electronic connection (cell service, internet, etc)
Good smelling things (whether it's flowers or cologne or whatever)

Pets are nice, but certainly not required
