for locals who what to meet sometime but don't like bars, I have met people at a Starbucks and talked for hours over a cup or two. If you know of a nice cafe or such, I am very sociable, give me a hollar.

OK Who is available and who is not. I'm game for the last week of June. So let me know whats up.

Unless something unforeseen comes up, I'm usually good for a Friday or Sunday.

I's love for APG to bring her butt here and take a room where I suggested before. That way we could all meet there and take advantage of the swimming pool if they allow it. I would however be willing to go in on a room with a few for the day, so it wouldn't look like we're all crowding in just for the pool, lol.

I'd even be up for a cookout at someone's house that has a real backyard and would bring something for either cooking, a side dish or beverages.

Anything is doable as long as we all don't die from the summer heat...just saying.

Unfortunately Red is gone the last week of June but I could ask if she minded if I throw a pool party at our home. I don't have the room to put everyone up but there are 3 hotels within 7 miles of our house. We have a 27 foot round pool big enough for everyone to swim. The deck needs painting and I wont' have that done by then. We could have a cookout and swim party here if Reds OK with it.

This sounds perfect...now if only most of us can agree on a day.
It would be a great way to get to know other Planeteers, no matter where they come from :)

Well, this girl will be there (butt and all! ) And I love the idea of getting the motel thing going too. And if you guys decide to have it at someone's home, that is great for me too. (I like the luxury of staying at a motel tho, just saying)

Just let me know when! Road trip!! (and if Wolfz7 is in town that weekend, that would be great too. Also, there are a couple of planeteers here in central AR that I would love to drag along! hehehe

I hear they have closed the turner turnpike because of them.

I have 2 brothers in Chickasha and hope the fire in Grady County doesn't go that way. Where the live, when the tornado hit there, it took out the bedroom windows in the complex they live in...new to OK then, they were ready to pack up and go back to Chicago. Who knows what they'll want to do if the wild fire in Grady doesn't get put out soon.

I've been watching the news and the one in Luther was set on purpose...OMFG!

I feel for those that have lost their homes and maybe their animals.

All it takes is some idiot.. I heard someone threw out burning trash and that all of Luther is ablaze. I'm in Yukon and we can see the smoke to the northeast.

I will be praying for the folks there in OK. I know not too long ago, how scary and so sad it was for the folks in Colorado. My son lives in CO Springs, and it was just a nightmare for him and his family.

Perhaps a Saturday night or late afternoon gathering somewhere in OKC or even Norman may tempt some of us to actually meet up.

I've been trying for a get together since I started this thread and so far as close as we came was trying to put together a day of fishing and a cook out.

I was thinking, if we just met in a restaurant that we might could pull it off.

I don't know where would be a good place. I do know the areas some of you live in and still think OKC or Norman or anywhere in between there may work well since it surrounds a few of you.

Just a couple hours of hanging out and getting to know each other may just produce another get together.

Anyone else up for it?
We now have 2 of us that are up for it.

Do you know what it takes to be an Oklahoman? You probably don’t because to be an Oklahoman is to be nuts, balls-to-the-wall crazy, off-the-charts insane. You have to be.

In Oklahoma, when you pop out of your mama, the doctors give you the once over. They check your eyes, because they know you’re going to have to stare down EF4 tornadoes and not flinch. They check the gravel in your guts, because true grit’s making a living from hard, dry land — molding a life from red clay. And they check your heart, because to be an Oklahoman is to be the smack-dab center of the Heartland.

Then you grow up in Oklahoma with your “Yes, ma’ams” and “No, sirs” and “Ranch, pleases,” and you learn how to drive in a place where you reserve one hand for waving to the neighbors you know and the neighbors you don’t know just quite yet. Your sentences are peppered with words like “hook echo,” “vortex,” “Pushmataha,” “biscuitsngravy” and “might could.”

You go to school and you learn the history of your state, from the Trail of Tears to the land run to the Dust Bowl to the Tulsa Race Riot to April 19, 1995 to May 3, 1999. You understand that you come from misfits and mistakes and pain. A lot of pain. You realize you come from underdog stock. You listen to a lot of Woody Guthrie, and you really get what it means.

At some point, life punches you in the gut for the first time. You watch the hand of God come down, and an entire town disappears off the map.

You fall to your knees and you cry and you spit and you cuss the day and night. And then you get up.

You don’t waste your time asking the heavens why. There’s work to be done.

You see someone else shaking their fists at the sky, so you reach your hand down. And then they get up.

That’s what being an Oklahoman is. Being so goddamned resilient and perseverant that ain’t nothing or nobody can keep you down. I’ve been a lot of places, lived in a few of them, and met many great people. Without minimizing anyone else, Oklahomans are a different breed. When you’re a little guy used to getting kicked, you not only learn to pop back up but you become the first one to reach out to others.

Oklahoma isn’t a place. It’s something in your blood. It’s something that you do. It’s the shirt off your back and a tear in your eye and the giddyup in your soul.

As we watched the wreckage from this latest prizefight with nature, several people asked me if I had people there — in Moore, in Shawnee. The answer is unequivocally yes. Every ever-loving, bless-your-heart mumbler in that grand land is My People. And God help us, My People don’t give up and don’t give in.

I love you, Oklahoma, and I thank my lucky stars that I’m one of yours. And if you don’t start installing storm shelters in every public building, I’m fixin’ to raise some hell.

Me and the animals are all ok. Red is in Little Rock at a conference. 80+ winds, a few tree limbs down. Electricity went out for about 4 hours. Pretty scary last night, I had the dogs in their kennels so I could pull them into the hallway if needed. We have a really nice neighbor that came over and told me to come on over and get in their shelter if the sirens went off. Told him I wasn't willing to leave my animals alone. He actually smiled and I told him if you get out of your shelter and our home is gone please come look for me. Hope everyone else in the path is ok.

I'm okay as well. Thankfully, that bad tornado lifted just two miles before it got here. Three adults and four dogs in a small storm shelter is an interesting experience but much better than the alternative.

Okie... I wouldn't want to leave My dogs either.

I just got my electric back an hour ago
I did have to leave my rescues in the mobile when I went running to the storm shelter
There were already about 30 plus people in that shelter when I got there
I couldn't believe all the sheared away electric poles I saw on my street as I left for work this morning
Still there when I got home and thought it would be days before we had electric again
I was prepared to take cold water showers, but didn't care
I am here and posting and that is all that really matters

It would be really neat if we could actually pull off a couple of meetings this summer. Might have to break up the state though, I dont think most people want to do a 3-4 hr drive just to turn around and do it again the same day. Somebody's home with a big back yard would be good. Failing that, maybe a park with picnic tables with an awning over it? I'm thinking parks in Norman would be good, as I think it's a lot LESS likely we'd be hassled here. Possibly another meetup in around the Tulsa area-if someone in that part of the state would be willing to handle it?

How about it people? Pass the word to fellow bfp members from OK. Lets try to do this this year, yay!
