Hi y'all,
I'd love to talk to you silver-fox butches, femmes and FTM's (or those elders of other persuasions.) I'm over sixty and feel great most of the time. I have lots of energy and lots of dreams I still hope to achieve. I also have times of sadness and pain. I'd like to have someone in my age group to talk these things over with.

Care to join me?
Many Smooches,
Keri

Definitely agree with you there Rockinonahigh, no need for dyed
hair...what has challenged us in life is what has defined us, so
the silver is golden!

Hi, I just re-found this forum. Joined in January and promptly forgot all about it, so I have no idea yet how to navigate my way around in here. Hope you all will start up a thread for women over 50. We're really infinitely more interesting than our younger sisters and have come to a point where we've learned some of the critical lessons in life (well, some of us). Please include me in your posts.
I need to finish my profile and add a photo -- being just old enough to be frazzled by all this high tech stuff that won't accept a pic over such and such pixels. Anyone on the east coast? I dye my hair cause it makes me feel good and I'm sticking to that story.

Thank you. I'll try to follow both. Someone suggested a chat room for people over 50. I'm in if it flies. Perhaps a regular meeting day and time, at least at first? Whole lot of topics that just aren't shared by our younger sisters and brothers. New opportunities, new problems.... would be terrific to have a discussion group.

Hi Keri.well what am I up to...lets see.Yesterday I went to the last of my rehab visits, so they say for my back .The therapist said I was doing just fine but need to keep doing the exersises he gave me to do,then gave me more to do for the mid back.My appointment with the sergons is late next month, acording to rehab all I need is the right kind of help to get over the last bit of work keeping my back stronger (core muscels).I doubt any surgery is needed but may end up with the shots to block some nerves..ouch!Its never going to be like it was before but atleast better and I will be able to do more than I have in a long time.
Then I did fur kid laudry today, gave them a bath ect, ect.I swear they take as much or more time then the two legged kids I have.Oh, I am suposed to get an appointment with the elder affairs office sometimes next week about some work..paper work and such, but I have no clue as to what is on there minds cause I was just glad to hear they finaly got me something if only part time.
Today was a beautful day, sunshine but a bit warm, come on summer give it up
its time for fall.

I am 51 and I believe the best is yet to come. Although I am about 9 years from 60 I look forward to every year I age...because 'that' birthday means I am still here! I have spent many years learning, taking a step forward, two backwards, and always landed on my feet when I took a great leap of faith. I find now that I can apply all those experiences and life only gets sweeter and sweeter. I see things through a different lens now. Day by day I continue to have those 'aha' moments when all things in the physical and supernatural world seem to come together. And...mostly for the greater good. I am no way ready to close this book of life. Now is the time to really LIVE. To FEEL. To SEE. To LOVE with no restrictive conditions. I am now simply an older woman with more experience and I would not choose to rewind or fast forward the tape of life. I do find the posts so far on this thread as insightful, needed, and validating.

Hi AtLast. Following you with interest on the other thread. I'm a very new member and still haven't figured out how all this works (pea brain here), so suggesting that you or some other more senior member set up a time and secure a chat room and let's just do it once and see if we all have a great time and see how many people show up.

Maybe anyone else interested contact me directly and I'll be sure you're notified.

Time/Date: What about an evening around 7 est. That would be 10 p.m. out west, 9 in the mountains and 8 central. Most people are up those times.

We do have very specific topics -- retirement, travel, finances, entertainment and adventure, aspirations (what we're looking for in life at this stage)............

I'd love to participate. Thanks for your enthusiasm.

Just wanted to say "Happy day" to all of you. Its beautiful here in the sunshine state. The temp is a little cooler than normal at this time of year, and the sun is VERY bright. Just the kind of weather that drew me to Fla. in the first place.

I am winging my way to Las Vegas this weekend, to celebrate my birthday and to meet for the first time in person someone who has become, well let's just say 'Important" in my life. Scary, exciting, ... scary, exciting. I feel both of those things strongly. Life continues to bestow new blessings upon me and I am very grateful for them.

As I look at the calendar, I just can not believe that it is November. This has been the fastest year! Slow down, time!

It's Christmas/holiday season right now. Many of us Elder folk find ourselves alone at this time. I want to wish you all a wonderful holiday season. Let's spend some time talking to each other. Let's bring some love and support in to each others lives.

Here's my story. Christmas has been pretty awful for me since my darling died unexpectedly three days after Christmas in 2003. We had adopted four kids and the oldest was 15 when he died. we began to change some of our family traditions because doing things we had always done was so painful without him. We always opened presents on Christmas eve, which we still do, but Christmas day was a lazy day where we re-examined all our gifts, played with new toys and watched sappy old christmas movies together, while working together to make a fantastic Christmas dinner. Now what we do on CHristmas days is to go to one of the many dinner shows in Orlando. Each year it seems that someone has a "half off" special, and that seems to guide us to the show we will see that year, LOL!!

This has become something that we look forward to, and it relieves us of the strain of cooking at all on Christmas day. Usually we have a friend or two from out of town, which helps to provide a distaction. Last year my friend from Michigan came to visit and we had a ball baking cookies all day until it was time to go to the show. The kids followed the sit around and watch Christmas movie tradition, and every once in a while would slip in to the kitchen to steal more cookies!!! It was a wonder we could eat at all when it came time to go to the dinner show.

This year we are going to the magic show at WonderWorks in Orlando. We are all looking forward to it. A "new" tradition that is likely to stick with them long after they have families of their own!!

Also this year, I have a new love in my life. We will not be able to spend the holidays together as we live across the continent from each other, but we will talk a lot, and dream of sharing a home together by this time next year. Life can still bring you miracles!!!

How are all you other oldies doing during the holidays?

Mistletoe Smooches,

I turned 68 last December. Most times I feel 19, but today - and alot lately - I'm feeling tired. But, I think it's emotional. I am - at this late stage of the game - travelling to TX to meet my sweetie for the first time. I had totatally given up, and never dreamed this would ever happen to me again, but, there you have it! Cheers, silver foxes and diamond doyenes, Hope springs eternal, so keep the chins up! lol

I hope much success to this thread. I will be popping in from time to time.

Would love to discuss what/how those of you who are retired are enjoying it, or how you're feeling about it. Totally retired? Semi-retired? Or still honing away at that grindstone?

So sorry you've been sick. Flu is bad. I'm glad you're on the mend. Fur kids are such a comfort when you fell sick or down, aren't they? And they don't get the flu, so you don't have to worry about making them sick with what you have.

Little Rock sounds great, but we'll have to see what happens. I'm chicken to go to things like that alone. Arkansas is such a beautiful state too. I'll bet it is gorgeous in the fall.

I will be headed back to Kansas in a U-haul...lol!!! I want all the younger people in here to know what lies ahead for them (well at least some)..I am 65 years old and notice that sometimes when I cough, I pee. I have to take Claritin for allergies (not an age thing - but they didn't hit me until my late 50's)..Sometimes I will have an ache in my knees or hips or back - never used to be there, damn it. One thing for certain - stay active - all of you! I love to travel which is no secret - but if you want to travel when you are older - be prepared for anything to happen...I look in my mirror and wonder who the hell that is in there looking back at me! Go away and bring back the non-wrinkled version! Okay then - at least let me keep my teeth and eyes? Enjoy the ride and the journey!

Hola everyone -- I'm soooooo very excited to see this thread here. I am somewhat frustrated with the lack of older Butches available and it seems to me the dating pool dimishes after age 55 (or somewhere around there) for me. I"ve noticed that there are a whole lotta butches who are seeking younger femmes and younger femmes wanting older Butches, so where does that leave this 63 year old femme but wondering if it is an age-ism issue. I've been out lesbian since 76 and have always enjoyed the company of wonderful Butches over the years and the lifestyle that goes along with it. I am very versed on the "dance" between B/Fs and love the art of seduction, etc. I found that younger Butches do not have the same form of reference that I do and have not found those relationships truly satisfying. I also found it frustrating that younger femmes want to be part of this thread too. The pool of availability was much wider when I was younger, so I guess I'm not delighted to see that and kind of verifies my thinking. I'm bringing this to the table for discussion, your observations, etc. My intention is not to be critical, just frustrated with my own journey over the past several years and wanted to give a voice to this issue. Thoughts anyone?

Be at peace all

The pool of availability was much wider when I was younger, so I guess I'm not delighted to see that and kind of verifies my thinking. I'm bringing this to the table for discussion, your observations, etc. My intention is not to be critical, just frustrated with my own journey over the past several years and wanted to give a voice to this issue. Thoughts anyone?

Be at peace all

WELCOME!!

Much of what you posted feels the same for me as a 60 year old, single butch. Throughout the 4 years I have been a member on the B-F sites, I have felt some ageism. And that the dating pool for me is just not very big at all. I prefer women near my age. I do, however, value the younger members and their take on things, but can't see myself involved with a lot younger than myself.

On the other hand, there are many more femmes and butches over 50 than I thought there would be. But, most are partnered. Although, I like the interaction because there are those commonalities we share.

I think it is important to keep the age boundary in this thread. Many threads throughout the site try to create a particular space- BDSM, Trans, Butch, Femme, etc. simply to have a place to relate within boundary desired.

AtLastHome, I agree with you about the importance of keeping the age boundaries with this thread and as I say that I feel a bit hypocritical because I'm not 60. I am coming up on 59 years soon very soon. So let me know if I'm over stepping the boundaries myself

I am in the process of "seeing" what I want to create in my life for this 6st decade of my life feeling grateful to be meeting it clear eyed healthy

At present I am not dating, nor wanting to feel I want to move into this decade alone not lonely love solitude that being said I have met a lovely lady but the time is not right yet for me

Am a deeply private person so I'll stop for now FemmeKat 1 welcome and the best to you and all who are seeking a special person in their lives.

Well heck- 59 is way close! I have more of a problem with a whole lot younger than that. Hummm... wonder if it would be OK to have a "pre-grace age period?"

I hear you about timing- really important. I would welcome someone in my life again, but am needing to get back on my feet physically and financially. Feel like I am far too stressed to be present for someone.

AtLastHome, I love the idea of the "pre-grace" period. We'll see what Keri thinks of this idea.

In any case, yes, I understand about needing to get back on one's feet financially, and physically. For me it is psychically getting to my own place in life alone after many years with a beautiful soul of a woman.

As I've said, I have met a lovely Lady who I have strong feelings for, but I know I must wait for a period of time where I can "see" her, and be with her, and not be in the past, though I carry-on with enduring memories of a great life and love.

I'm saying a lot this evening but feel drawn to share with you, and with others on this thread.

I look forward to continuing the discussion of how it is to age gracefully, healthily. Thank you AtLastHome for your sharing.

I hope you and others close to age 60 as well as those who are over 60 will feel welcome here. We have so much in common to share with each other. Let's share it here. We have so many ways to support each other, (and teach each other what lies ahead), I hope lots of it takes place here.

While the goal of this thread is not necessarily to meet the next love of our life, it would please me if that happened for some of us. (Though I would like most of the romance stuff to be conducted through PMs to each other rather than on this thread,LOL) Some of us like folks a little older and some like folks a little younger, so older than 60's is fine and younger than sixties is fine too.

Welcome and please come back frequently

Hi Everyone!
Hope you are all having a fabulous week-end. I have been lazing around all day, but have to go take a bath now. Going to Orlando to check out a van I may want to buy. It's quite old, but has lots of handicapper equipment in it, and my old van is pretty well dead. I have nothing I can drive independantly right now, and would like to be able to get back on the road. Also money is tight - that's why I'm looking at this old of a vehicle.

Well if nothing else, it will be a nice drive to Orlando.

Get out there and DO SOMETHING FUN Y'ALL!!! Then come back and tell us what you did.

It's Memorial Day week-end ... what are y'all doing to commemorate it?

Hi Everyone, Happy Saturday to you all.

I decided to nix the van. It was pretty much in good shape, but 21 years old. Good thing I decided against it, because something has come up that will likely take a good chunk of the money I would have used on the van. For now I will just continue as I have been doing. I have a van I can drive once I get in. I just have to have someone else put my scooter on the lift. Cuts the spontaneity out of my movements somewhat, but I've been surviving. Also I live in a little town where I can pretty much do everything on my scooter. The bank and post office are close at hand, away. I actually love running around town on my scooter - I never got to ride a bike when I was a kid, so it fills in that gap. It works out pretty well, I just miss being totally independant. Maybe the universe is teaching me a lesson that it is OK for those who love me to help me. I have always had a hard time taking help from anyone, though I constantly help and offer help to others. Patience grasshopper, patience!

Y'all get out there and cut your grass - it's looking a trifle long. Then grab a cool refreshing drink of your choice and do something fun. I plan to get my hair cut, and then go swimming. It's 88 degrees out right now!

U r lucky to have a palce to swim, the only places I can go is the "Y" and only in the evenings....noooooo not me in a pool of crazy kids.WIsh I could join ahealth club with a pool with out breaking the bank.
Cutting the yard is a snap hear with the John Deer mini tractor I have with bush hogg atatchment...just buzz cut that grass.

The heat has definetly settled in here. It's been in the high ninetys for about five days now. Not unusual for Florida, but a little earlier than usual.

I am lucky to have a pool. I have a great house in a shitty neighborhood. Well, it's an industrial neighborhood, so the "view" is not great. Great house, though, which is why I stay. Also because it is a racially mixed neighborhood and my racially mixed kids are the norm here. A few years ago I rented this house and bought a house in a beautiful neighborhood in the next town. It was obvious from day one that we were not welcome there. I got a complaint call about my sons at least once a week. They were hanging out by the gazebo at the main drive. They were sitting on a bench down by the lake. They were playing video games in the clubhouse. They actually changed the clubhouse rules to keep them out. They raised the age kids could be alone in there from 14 to 16 and then to 18 when one of the boys turned 16. People were constantly telling me how wonderful my daughter is (she's blond with blue eyes), but the boys were not wanted. After about 18 months, when my tenants moved out. we moved back "to the old neighborhood." Now I have a racialy mixed grandchild, so I guess we'll be staying here as long as any of the kids are at home. It is after all. a great house.

So what have you peeps been up to? Are any of you off work for the summer? Any travel plans in the offing? Any relatives on the way?

Speak to me,

I recently moved back to Kentucky from Kansas (hey Gina) after being gone for 30 years and do not know anyone except for family here. Don't even know where to look. I am 60 but don't feel it most of the time althought I recently had a knee replacement and oh how I am feeling it, but it ls getting better and I am back to work. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

We have been having (thank the universe!) a lot of rain, so the fireworks are on. The little town I live in is very active at holidays. Down at the rec center, they are having a little 4th of July Festival with fireworks out over the two lakes that are central to town. Don't know who if any of the kids will be here, but those of us who are will be down at the park to watch the fireworks - I love them - OOOPs the neighbors are starting the fireworks off early - I hear them out the window as I am typing.

Happy 4th y'all!

Yikes! I always worry about fires over the 4th. So many idiots that do their own. And that is so nuts as there are beautiful fireworks all across the SF Bay. One of the best places to go and see them is acyually my local dog park. It is huge, has tables and several benches and looks right over to the SF skyline. Perfect! Lots of room for people to plop down and there are even some public BBQ's there.

Tomorrow is going to be very warm here- unusually so. I hope people just go to the public fireworks and not do stupid things. We had a fire a few blocks up from me on a hillside a couple of days ago due to kids and fireworks. It could have spread to homes quite easily.

I bet you will be by the ac! But I hope you have a good weekend nonetheless!

When they do have fireworks I usely would like to call the popo on a neighbor on the corner cause he dosent just pop regular fireworks he gets the big stuff that shouldnt be used in a place with so many houses as hear, last year he set his own yard on fire and nearly the house cause he was careless. The next day several of us had to take our fur kids to the vet for nervous shakes..my pug wont eat for days after a fireworks holliday, this year I am armed with something to calm both a bit.
The best place to watch fireworks is on the park way down by the river, the casinos all pop them from a barge in the river so ists quite a show. This year they had an indoor party that was just as good as the one with fire works cause I hear thay gave out cash vouchers thst rainged fron ten bucks to 500,it was one of those swipe the players card to see what u got things.
Have a happy forth my friend.

Up here in this Northern Ca. farming community the fireworks show is at the fairgrounds but there are also fireworks stands all over town where people can buy fireworks for their own use. I wish California would outlaw fireworks except for celebrations done by pros in safe locations--Ca, is just too dry and lots of fires are started by firworks every year. I always stay close to home on the fourth because I worry about neighbors setting loud stuff off (or shooting their guns) and spooking the horses. It is now a little past midnight and someone close by is already setting off firecrackers. I will probably go to the neighbors across the street for a bar-b-que. Hope everyone has a great 4th.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to a hibachi grill?? I loved mine, finally lost it moving long ago.

My hands are badly damaged from over use, and although I want to have another hibachi, I know I will not be able to pick it up, let alone move it around all summer or winter while camping. I would prefer something tougher than a cheepy Wally World one/or two use grill, the kind that look disposable. But it needs to be light enough for me to pick up and carry in the same day.

Does any one have other ideas for BBQ-ing that maybe don't use a BBQ grill per se?

Anyone wanna share how they found alternative methods to do "whatever" around the house or garage or where ever?? I love my grabber, don't get the cheepy one, you will spend more time cussing than picking up. But now I have to use both hands or wait for someone to help me..... btw, cats are no help in this area.......:glasses:

So Happy to see this thread pop up again. How are all you eldrs doing?

Sunday was my 64th birthday. Yikes! Whoever thought I would live this long?

Give me your answer, fill in a form, mine forever more
Will you still need me, will you still feed me when I'm sixty-four?

Smooches,
Keri

Keri, Congratulations on your upcoming 64th B-day. Next year I will celebrate my 64th. I think you should start celebrating right now and just keep on celebrating as long as you wish---maybe until its time to start celebrating your next one.

I had a huge celebration on my birthday. They put on a fantastic parade in my honor in Orlando. See film below.

I got lots of beads, candy, a tote bag and other good stuff. I had so much fun!

When is your birthday - maybe we could make a "bridge" of celebration from my b'day to yours, LOL (and invote in all the other birthday celebrators along the way. Thanks for the best wishes.

I just saw this thread and figured I belonged here.

Ahemmmmm..... I was 62 in Sept. I, too, am in awe that I've lived to be this age. I'm vital, active, and have a sharp mind (that does fog once in awhile). I feel 35 most days, until I realize that may body just can't do that little fancy step as gracefully as it once did.

Ironically, I'm finding that at this age, I truly am younger in body, mind, and spirit than I was two or three years ago. I hike, I dance, I work out. I change my own light bulbs (even though I'm only 5' 1"---a 4 foot ladder is a must-have). I'm learning to do maintenance on my own car. I even put together five pieces of furniture-in-a-box and only had to unscrew and turn a piece a couple of times! (I'm spatially challenged--even with a diagram). I'm also beginning to paint again and lead a women's spiritual group. I travel alone, and I enjoy meeting people wherever I go. And I still am working.

In a nutshell, I like being me. So, hello to all of you elders.

Love your post. Thanks so much for joining us. I've been a little stuck myself. Hopefully your inspiring post will give me the little kick I've been needing to get going again..
