Another Alfred Hitchcock great! Ingrid Bergman, with a very gay, Cary Grant, as her leading man. He was living with actor Randolf Scott, during filming. Claude Rains finially received a long-deserved Oscar for supporting actor. This is the movie Ingrid Bergman said was her own personal fav, in her autobiography. Mine too! I bought it for 50 cents at Goodwill.:eatinghersheybar:

Every time I see this thread, I think about work. Somewhere, somehow Turner Network is giving out my work number as a contact number for their customers so when the wrong movie is playing or any other general issue, they call me.

I try to explain that we've had this number for over 15 years and that they were given the wrong number by the Turner rep but sometimes they just hang up, upset, because I won't fix their movie.

:|

Hey, did this ever get resolved or are you still receiving calls?

I have been gifted with a list of great black and white movies that I will be enjoying very soon. Thank you!

I ran across the Nanny with Bette Davis and it came up on the Firestick so I am about to enjoy it!

Since the first thing I do is read the trivia, i will share:
Working with the flu, Bette Davis would drink out of her co-stars' glasses and cough in their faces.

The role of the Nanny was originally intended for Greer Garson who first accepted then declined, saying the script would not be good for her career. Jimmy Sangster who wrote and produced the film later said, "I went to Santa Fe and met with Greer, and she said she liked the script, and everything was fine. When I got back to London, we had a message from L.A. saying that Greer Garson didn't think the script would do her career much good. I didn't like to say she didn't have a career in those days."

According to writer Marcus Hearn in "The Hammer Vault", Davis unsuccessfully tried to seduce producer Jimmy Sangster.

Jill Bennett says Bette Davis gave her one important acting tip: "make love to the furniture."

Ten year old co-star William Dix could not attend the film's British premiere because of the "X" rating it originally earned.

Director Seth Holt found Bette Davis "impossible" to work with.

The last film of Nora Gordon.

Bette Davis forced co-star Jill Bennett to walk behind her at the dog track one night because she thought she was underdressed.

The last Hammer film to be made in black and white.

Alfred Burke replaced Harold Lang.

The battery-powered walking robot toy Joey is playing with is a Horikawa "Silver Gear" model, made of tin in Japan. In good working condition it could be worth $800, even without the box (in 2015).

Acclaimed Flop: The film actually lost Warner Bros $45,000 but was heaped with praise.
Actor-Inspired Element: Bette Davis designed Mildred's make-up for her varying stages of tuberculosis herself. Her intent was to make it look realistic as opposed to "as if a deb had missed her afternoon nap".
Enforced Method Acting: Leslie Howard was very frosty to Bette Davis at first, which she said helped her to be horrible to him in the scenes that required it.
Executive Meddling: Mildred dies of syphilis in the book, but the Hays Code had it changed to tuberculosis instead.
Fake Brit: Famously with Bette Davis playing Mildred. The mostly English cast were horrified at an American playing the part. Leslie Howard however was quickly won over with Bette's dedication to the role.
Star-Making Role: This turned Bette Davis into a star. Bette herself anticipated this and lobbied hard for the part of Mildred, sure it would be her breakout role.
What Could Have Been: Katharine Hepburn, Ann Sheridan and Irene Dunne all turned down the part of Mildred.

Indiscreet (http://www.bnwmovies.com/indiscreet.html#plot) (1931)

I like how a lot of these older movies were shorter, easier to get through when you're tired. I really liked this one mostly because of the message and between the two main characters there are some of the cutest couple scenes I've ever seen.
