My coffee break friends at work and I have spent so much time trying to accurately describe the goo in the goblet. :)

Chum
Melted fruit roll ups
Some weirdest Jell-o concoction
Coagulated blood glops

Yummmmm!

I wonder of that garbage disposal still works?

Jessica/Hoyt continue to Annoy, although that "Intervention" attempt by his Momma was fuckin hilarious...

I loved it when she knocked the high school guidance counselor over!

She was a hoot last season after she was possessed by MaryAnn - playing wii, dancing in the kitchen...

Now she's gun shopping!

Summer is a dingbat but I'm not so sure...it looked like one of her creepy dolls laying on the floor...

Season 4 teaser trailer.

For those of you who've read the books - you know what this is about. I'm pretty excited that they've decided to go with this storyline.

Eric and Sookie are totally going to do it this year! Good news for those of us who are teams that are not Team Bill. :)

(I am on Team Sam, but that's just not gonna happen I fear.)

Waiting Sucks - 87 days until season 4.

Sorry, Joe Lee didn't get killed off. But Sam ran him off (and ran his mother off, too). His brother (Tommy) stayed with Sam for most of the second half of season 3 - but they had a pretty big falling out and we're waiting on season 4 to find out what happens with that.

(I would die without HBO. That is not hyperbole!)

Huge fan here as well. If you have Netflix, you can watch seasons 1 & 2 online & DVD. I have season 3 that someone put on DVD for me, but havent had the time to watch them yet.
Think Im gonna just sit down soon and make it a True Blood day.

Its hard to pic a fav, but I loved Grandma. Tara is hot, but a lil too whiney for me. That goddess woman (cant rem her name) was HOT, but was waaaaaaaay too evil.
I love Lafayette.
I want to open a Fantasia Club. LOL

Arwen, I'm right there with you. I'm addicted big time to it. I actually ordered the "tru blood" soda 4 pack. I basically got it out of curiosity, being a fan of the show, plus the bottles looked pretty cool (just like on the show at Sam's bar). It's blood orange soda and it leaves a bad after taste. Quite disappointing, after they were making a big deal about it. If you're thinking it will taste like Orange Crush, nope, it doesn't. I have the bottles on display in my bar which make for a great conversation piece, along with the bottle opener I ordered.

I picked up a bottle on sale at Hastings. I just wanted the bottle, but I did recently drink it.
I loved it, and didnt get the after taste, but wouldnt bother buying it again.

Hey Arwen, maybe you drank the wrong blood type. LOL
Mine was a nice O Neg. LOL

I think we probably have to just accept that there are things we'll never know, since Sookie lost a year of her life while she was in Faery. She doesn't know how any of those things happened either.

Hot damn Tara, though.

Also - I guess Bill being King means he killed Sophie Anne. Which is a drag, she was one of my favourites.

Why is Bill less pale this season? Do vampires go to tanning booths?

I hate Lafayette's new haircut.

I haven't read the books. Tried to read the first one and nearly turned it into a wall-banger. LOL

I loved the Fey. Mab, queen of the Fey, is a name to look up if you aren't familiar with her. ;)

I'm not convinced Sophie Anne is gone. I hope she shows back up.

Tara/Toni made me yawn. Didn't like that at all. And Jason as the good cop? Must have been a helluva year.

I knew who bought the house though. That was really clear. :)

Randomly........

Lafayettes hair was weird, I agree. Maybe when the mohawk gets longer?

I miss the Queen, hope Arwen is right!

Thrilled Sookie's poor house is finally fixed back up pretty.

Loved the Tara scenes. Cage fighting!

The parrot creeped me out.

Gampa Earl lol. :vigil:

Did anybody notice that as an "ugly" faerie Claudine looks a lot like Molly Shannon? (Not that Molly Shannon is ugly, but she just reminded me of her. I think it was a facial expression or something that did it)

Not to spoil, but Sophie Anne dies in the books...so I figure she's a goner. Too bad, though - I really love Evan Rachel Wood.

(re: the books. They aren't super-well written and the editing is terrible...but the stories are addicting. They're my super smutty soap opera with shapeshifters. I'll take it.)

I don't understand why Sookie didn't take Sam aside and tell her where she was. They've got the sort of relationship where she should be able to do that. I wish she would.

I Hope everyone got to watch it so I don't spoil it 4 anyone. Thoughts:
1. Uncle Earl? No matter what he is in, he is always Gary Cole!
2. The whole fairy scene was, to me, lame!
3. Tara hitting it with a girl-even tho they both are too femme for my taste-was great & a big step up from the lunatic Franklin!
4. Don't like Bill, never have, never will. I do like his real-life British accent though.
5. Jessica hot! Even though she is femme, could go there with her. How about her & Pam together-now that would be a great scene!
6. Eric. OMG! beautiful man, just beautiful. Sookie & Eric have far more chemistry than Sookie & Bill!! I know they get together in one of the books so am looking forward to that!
7. Agree about Laffette's hair. Didn't get it. Almost looked like they were trying to butch him up a little.

Well for those who have Comcast/Xfinity, episode 2 is on On Demand. I dont know about the other providers. I wont spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but it does look like they are going to spend parts of each episode flashing back through the year that Sookie lost, but not in a super confusing LOST sorta way. I don't think that Sam knows, but with his being two-natured and all I feel like he's trustworthy. Plus with him being NOT a vampire he's a pretty "safe" person, even though he's kinda batshit right now.

I do feel like they have cheesed the episodes up so far, miss the grittier style. it is what hooked me from the start, that and the intro song! I wanna do bad bad things to you!

but for any avid readers if you like the sookie books there is a series of books by Jim Butcher "Dresden files" that absolutely blows your socks of in the first few pages. they are smart, fast paced and a great read!

Good-This has been my favorite season since the first one (so far). I like that they are using humor more in some of the writing.

Good-To me it's obvious that Layfette has the power not that Wiccan lady and I don't trust his boyfriend anymore.

Good-The doll is creepy. I am interested to see where they go with it. Of course I love Pam and she better not get killed off.

Bad-Tara. Snoozing with her new found lesbianism. She bores me.

Ugly-The stuff with Jason right now. I hate the story line. It's gross and disturbing. I wish Crystal and all her kin-folk would all die. SOON.

Actually in the books Tara was a very boring white lady who had gone to school with Sookie and ran her own clothing boo-teek. She married a stupid but attractive boy that they were friends with in highschool named JB.

I like Tara from the show a zillion times better. She's actually one of my favourite characters.

Well because in the books it was less rapey. And Crystal wasn't in on it. In the books, remember, Crystal's ex boyfriend kidnapped Jason and held him captive and bit him every night so that he would turn into a panther - because he thought if Jason was a panther Crystal wouldn't want him any more.

I guess the whole "bring Jason into the family to add new blood to the line" storyline is a takeoff from the books where Calvin was always trying to court Sookie because he wanted HER to add new blood to the line. But at least in the books Calvin didn't want to tie up, drug, and rape anybody. Calvin was actually a pretty awesome guy in the books.

I'm not sure why it bothers me that several folks have made mention of the "lesbianism" scenes with Tara in a less than positive light.

Me? I thought it HAWT! HAWT! HAWT! Matter of fact, if I slow rewind and slow advance a couple of scenes it just gets hotter.

I guess the reason it bothers me, is that no one has had any "less than positive" things to say about the "lesbian" scenes with Pam or SophieAnn. Not to mention any ill regard for the scenes with Bill/ Sam ( fantasy/ dream scene) or Eric/ Talbot.

Why is this? Seriously, what is the difference that makes someone see Tara's sex scenes as icky or tiresome or whatever? Never saw a word said when she was being tortured and raped. Hmmm...

Edited to add: oh yeah, I forgot Lafayette/ Jesus. The entire show ( including the marquis in the opening credits "God Hates Fangers") reflects the LGBT struggle, why is this one aspect bothering to folks?

I can tell, that you wont have to worry about Debbie if they stay to the book. Not sure how close they do stay though. I'm reading them in order, and have only seen season 1. I know there was a fair bit of sex in the books, but seriously, season 1 was basically porn!

Another one who hasn't read (and probably won't) the series. Loved the scene with the Queen. Thanks HBO for one last look at Sophie Ann. :)

Not sure about the AVL affiliation. Feels a bit KBG to me.

Agree that Tara's lesbianism is a yawn. Was that in the books?

Finally caught up on the last two shows. lol

Sophie Ann....I miss her already.

I liked it when this crazy vamp was after her.

Bad-Tara. Snoozing with her new found lesbianism. She bores me.

I find Tara's character very boring especially in the last two seasons. I don't find her icky or unattractive physically. The story line with her mom as an alcoholic was interesting, since then not so much for me.

Maybe you could elaborate on the last part you edited. I don't really follow what you're saying.

I guess I was just noting that half of the primary cast has had intimate homosexual scenes and I just wonder what it is specifically that bothers several of the thread participants about hers.

I find her character very amusing, in that soap operatic sort of "wtf is going to happen to Tara next" way. Kinda like the day time character who has been in a coma since she was hit by a train on her way back from the kidney dialysis treatment where she ran into the man who posed as her father as a child but was really an escaped serial killer from Portugal... ya know?

anywho... just curious

I don't know why, but Tara's lesbian scenes and new story line wasn't exciting to me.

I think it would have been better if she had been turned into a vampire then had a sexual affair with Sookie.

Tara's lesbianism is boring. It doesn't fit her character AT ALL. Why would she turn to a woman? Why would she be in some obviously rigged girl-on-girl fight scene?

It just feels like HBO's playing to the straight male crowd who always want to see girls hook up. That mentality is just gross to me. Let me caveat this with I don't see that mentality in your statement, Jess, but I do see it in some folks who watch this show. They seem to get titillated by it and that bugs me.

Especially when it's half-assed soft porn that's not even very good porn.

Logical speaking.... Jess dying is logical. She wasn't in the books and she is well beloved.... Still going to be pissed and may stop watching... (well, until erik is back to himself... then... well...)

Couple of things...

What the hell was with that with the love making in the forest with snowflakes coming down w/Eric & Soooookie? How damn CORNY was that???

I was always diggin' Jessica from the get-go and have a crush on her...Something about her sexy innocence :sunglass: And it's going to get sexier and hotter ;) I'm also glad she's leaving Hoyt. That storyline needed to be uprouted.

And....Jason & Jessica? Oh you know that's comin' soon and it's gonna be HOT, HOT, HOT! :grindevil:

I fucking love PAM! I love how direct she is and arrogant (because she can be).The shit she says makes me laugh and she's so damn fierce...

Other than the foreseen Jason & Jessica thing, I'm still waiting for more from this series ...I need that "wow" factor again and hope more things come about.

I like the "nice" Eric...But...I also liked the "bad ass" Eric...I want a happy medium of both....I have a feeling pretty soon we're going to see him slow but sure head back down the "bad ass" path with a slight "tender" side too...

It was pretty silly, yeah. Kinda like Jason-and-whatsherface's v-trip scenes with all of the floating in the meadow crap. And that's pretty clearly where they were going with that. Sookie was high because of he V and Eric was high because of the Faerie blood.

Hi Folks,

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I couldn't get in to last night's show as much. I thought it was boring except for the hot sex scenes with Jessica & Jason (wished it was longer), and Sam & that hot shift shaper.

I'm sure all you ladies liked seeing Alcide's ass again, but not me and hell no that wasn't the highlight for me. My highlight was watching Jessica getting her groove on...hot damn. You know I have a major crush on her ;)

I thought the Lafayette as Mavis was ridiculous and corny as hell. The Antonia thing is getting on my nerves and I'm kinda over it. I'm starting to wonder if they're beginning to run out of story lines. It's bound to happen and I'm hoping that's not the case. Time will tell.

totally agree that about 95% of last nights show was a ho-hum and/or just crazy dumb...
might be easier and more interesting if mr. big gay screenwriter would go back and pick up more of the actual books...
the entire dream crap with sookie, bill and eric was just a total turn off... the only good aspect of it was when she stated instead of her being bill's or eric's that they both be hers. on that note, I say go girl!... otherwise, it was a completely flacid scene...

Lord, for the first time since the show started, I pretty much hated it last night.

It was laughable @ times.

WTF!

It is not like there isn't an entire series of books to get plots from! The only good parts were Jason & Jessica (the hottest femme ever) finally hitting it and Sookie in her heels, red panties & bra.

So disappointed. Glad I had it on TiVo so I could fast forward through the worst.

I have to agree...

Last night show was a let down. Althought it did have some very amusing moments... Babyvamp pouring her heart out to Nan... down in the chains sobbing over her love life while the *grown ups* are talking about a war that is coming...

It feels like the show is fragmented. As much as people dislike Sookie, she is the point of the show... When you take her out of the senario, you loose the continuity of the story. With so many story lines loosely tied together, the story doesn't work. It feels like a vignette/ soap opera with all of these story lines that don't really have anything to do with the main charater.

All of these minor charaters having main story lines DO NOT add to the story...

I'm losing interest really fast. Last night, I stepped out to have a smoke during the last ten mins of the show... Sure, I watched through the door, but I couldn't hear anything and it didn't bother me at all...

i loved the whole Lafayette/Mavis thing...Nelsan Ellis did an awesome job with that. Though i have to admit being somewhat disappointed in the storyline behind that doll. i was convinced it was courtesy of Hoyt's mom and his former girlfriend.

Antoinia is getting on my last nerve...Fiona Shaw is a wonderful actor but she's struggling with that accent. And that Wiccan guy, Roy who's so enthusiastic is dancing on that nerve with her.

i think Tommy may have some major guilt issues about his parents and Sam. i did love him as Maxine...but then again i love it anytime Maxine is portrayed as anything but the regular Maxine...

Fav exchange from last episode:
Jason: "Hey, when you and Lafayette role play. Does he ever pretend to be a woman named Mavis?"
Jesus: "I'm going to forget you just said that"

Second fav exchange was the scene with Jessica and Nan who, like Pam and Eric a couple of seasons ago, finds Jess annoying...

i'm thinking Jesus is going to play a role in getting Marnie free of Antonia...just sayin...

1. Anyone else expecting Tommy to show up again?
2. I know Alcide is one big brawny man (pant) but does he HAVE to be the Bon Temps one man ambulance? He's been toting and carrying the injured all over. What? Don't they have 911?

I don't think they do lol - it seems it always falls to Alcide, and of course Debby being the well being the Debby she is out only for herself will be sure to bring some hurt down on Alcide again :(

Best lines last night's show:

After Jason & Jessica just got through having their hot sex, they were getting dressed and started to chat. They ended up having an argument because Jason was feeling guilty because he and Hoyt are "best friends". He wanted Jessica to glamour him so he would forget it ever happened. She took major offense and hopped out of his truck and says:

"Fuckin humans, I'm gonna go find somebody to eat"

When Eric, Pam, Bill, Nan & Jessica are taking precaution from Antonia's vampire spell, they're chained up in the vault/cell and they're all arguing, Jessica is all pissed and pipes up and says:

"I don't care what happens, so long as I get to kill shit!"

LOL...I love Jessica!!

Big Tru Blood fan...

I've been ready the books for years, and wasn't all that interested in a tv show based on them.. (I was like.. what? How about Anita Blake????)

But I was pleasantly suprised..

The show is more complex and involved than the books...I love the chart development ...

Lafette is my favorite..

lafayette is cool, and i LOVE Anita Blake books, and sherrilyn kenyon and christine feehan lol.
i have read some of the books but gotta say for this, i like the series better, go figure.

Lafayette needs to learn to keep his mouth closed.

Bill making demands of Marnie, ugh. It sounded so contrived. I spent time fussing at the television, "Bill, realllllllly? Shush now and let Eric speak."

I was (still am) beyond peeved at Pam's "gnash in a sun dress" line. That is certainly creative license and will result in an email telling producers just how unnecessary those words were. Was it just me?

i thought the same things myself...LOL

Marcus was just sooooooooo sleazy...his voice reminds me of a guy i knew back in the 80s whom i nicknamed "the snake" because i was convinced the snake in the Garden of Eden sounded just like that guy...LOL

That final scene was way too tranquil so i wasn't surprised at what happened...

Andy in the woods...ew...never ever wanted to see his nekkid rear in the moonlight...ew ew ew!!!

Hey now! That jacket ain't bad solo. With that dress, not so much.

I would pair it with a rockin pair of boot cut jeans and my fav Ariats.

In fact, I may have to go see if I can find one :P

@Bęte re: Lafayette is a medium. It is getting old. Jess asks me where the story is headed because I've read the books. More oft than not, this season, my standard answer is, "Not a clue.". I really wish the writers would veer a tad more towards the books.

I must say, Jason was precious in his defense of Sookie with Bill and Eric. I was working in the kitchen during the show and could be heard yelling, "Give Pam a break, Eric. She just loves you, Bonehead.". I won't share my family's reaction to such commentary, but I think "certifiable" was a part of it. Ha!

I still don't like Bill as king. The dominant persona just seems contrived. Russell, in all of his 20lbs of crazy in a 5lb bag, as well as Eric just do a much more believable job.

i was hoping antonia(sp) would go into Lafayette(seems more suitable than Marnie)

i agree with Bill being king--what the hell is that about?

i missed Andys white ass in the moonlight--i musta been geeting a snack

I have read the all the Southern Vampire series and a few others from Charlaine Harris. I have not read all 15 pages of this thread, so pardon me if this information has been covered. But, I read an interview of Charlaine Harris where she explained that the Vampire mysteries were inspired by the discrimination she encountered as a lesbian in the south. So, instead of gay and lesbians she wrote of vampire discrimination, fighting for rights, etc. I thought it was pretty interesting.

Arwen

Charlaine is not a lesbian but she is supportive.

"#1 New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris has been a published novelist for over 25 years. A native of the Mississippi Delta, she grew up in the middle of a cotton field. She now lives in southern Arkansas with her husband and three dogs. Their three children are out of the nest. In her years as a published writer, she’s written four series and two stand-alones, plus numerous short stories."

Yes! It's not working for me either- Tara as a vamp, or the season in general. It all seems very chaotic and over-the-top- not enough time to absorb it. I understand throwing us in the middle of the plot as a way to propel the narrative...but there are SO many new subplots, and we've been launched into all of them at once. It would be nice to see a bit more set-up.

Didn't poor Lafayette already go through one season with PTSD? And Reverend Steve Newlin as a gay American Vampire? I dunno, just seems like the subplots are getting a little thin.

I am enjoying learning Pam's history, but even the whole "flashback as a form of mourning" device is a bit too contrived for my taste.

It's Alan Ball's last season- maybe he's trying to leave them with plenty of material to work with? :|

What's frustrating is that the BOOKS have plenty of material to work with. There were two book plots that I found interesting and I thought would translate well to the screen. However one would involve large pyrotechnics and a change in venue to a city, so maybe that would be over budget. The other plot, it looks like they are going to somewhat develop in the "you smell good" guy with 16 sisters. (Won't give more away than that.)

But at least we're getting to see more of Erics yummy body. Although I could do with LESS of Sheriff Bellefleur's body. LOL

I know. More Tara misery. GOD. I want her to be married and running the clothing store as she is in the books -- or, as you say, truly dead. GOD, so tired of her crying and screaming. She's pretty though. The long shots of her face, at rest for once, reminded me of that.

I thought that Lafayette's panic was funny a time or two, and I like the idea of the Sheriff dating. That actor is so good.

But all the vampire politics -- too chatty.

I was fascinated to see Linda Purl again. But the whole killing of Debbie Pelt and Alcide's anger plot is boring so far.

I thought that Jessica and Jason's interactions were pretty cool. Jason as a sexual abuse survivor is sort of interesting.

And everything Pam is hot. Never enough Pam.

Not so into Salome although I was interested in the idea of a woman having sex with three guys in a row presented sort of matter of factly. They did use the horrible phrase "sloppy seconds," but not as if truly grossed out.

Also, having the secularist mainstreamers being oppressors and torturers is a little too cynical for me. What is he doing with that?

I must say I am just not feeling True Blood so far this season.

Maybe it is too soon and it will grow on me but I am not feeling Tara as a vamp either.

It's almost like the writers gave us a nice simple ice cream sundae that everyone loved, and when they saw we liked it they said, "Well if you liked that you are going to LOVE this!" and then dumped a 5 gallon tub of ice cream in the dish and demanded that we eat it.

I liked it alot better with a couple of vampires, a shifter, and a few werewolves. A few plotlines rather than my head spinning around trying to remember what everyone in the town is doing. Now EVERYONE is either something other than human or dealing with something other than human. Really for me this season it kind of sucks (actually last season kind of sucked too) and now I'm biding my time waiting for Boardwalk Empire to start.

The Tara thing is so overdone I'd like to stake her myself just to shut her up....the same with Hoyt....he looks ridiculous in leather and eyeliner. It was basically a boring episode, every plotline getting pushed forward a little. Jessica's reaction to Hoyt's desperation was priceless. And Lafayette's face as he interacts with his mom. . . .

Roman is toast....... maybe. What an awesome way to end the episode!! 18th century Austrian hemophiliac blood that “cost a f---ng f---load of money.” Lol

Booya for Russell, whom I both love and detest. His character has been amusing and entertaining since the very beginning.

Terry, Patrick, and the Ifrit = This week's Just Shut Up Award.

Poor Alcide........lol Eric is such an ass

Jessica's reaction was perfect. His behavior is a huge turnoff for me at even at a lesser degree.

Lafayette and his mom added some amusement for me to a storyline that was stale before it got started. This, along with Hoyt, Terry, and the fairies should be shit-canned by the Lilith-leprechan that Russel was talking about.

Still fast-forwarding through 1/3rd or more.

I loved past seasons and have read all of the books.

Can not engage in this season at all. I even forgot it was on yesterday for the 1st time ever.

Now Breaking Bad, that is another story! Still outstanding but that is another thread...

Alexander Skarsgaard kinda turns me on. Bio guys do not have this effect on me.

He is just so damn PRETTY!

On another subject...
I haven't read everything on this thread, but am I the only one who loves Tara being a vampire? Totally suits her badass attitude.

And I wish Terry would figure out that a witch could help him with his curse. Duh. Seriously tired of the Ifrit already. The graphics aren't even impressive.

Anya,, I read the books too. SO glad the show is not following them, though there are a few characters I'd like to see. I think we may meet one of them soon, though...

I didn't read the books but my wife was steady, "Wait, THAT wasn't in the book" for awhile then changed it to "They stopped following the books a long time ago so I don't know what's going on."

I thought they abandoned the werepanther storyline with Jason too quickly as it was interesting enough and part of the book.

I think because they are in LA voodoo does have a part in the storyline but I wish they would be more realistic in it's portrayal. Voodoo is far more mysterious and threatening when it is a hint of evil rather than some idiot in a badly painted mask jumping out at someone.

Well, I was pleased that they followed a couple of the story lines for a while compared to last week when each seemed to get equal time.

The whole Lilith thing seems cheesy so far, like an episode of Angel or Charmed. We'll see.

There wasn't the humor I am used to. I agree, not a great episode.

WTF?

I agree completely Diva! I worked on my email half the time!

The best part of the show was Pam's hair! It looked great crimped, though it was kind of 1980's.

I really can't even begin to list all that was wrong with the hour but I will try: Terry and the Smoke Monster? OMG, lifted straight from Lost. How about some originality?!

Bill and Eric chowing down on humans now?

Lafayette and the what is he again? A witch?

Lilith arising from blood. At least she had pubic hair, that was fitting to the time period she was created.

Oh, I must stop now. Bad show. Shame on the writers,

This is how I see it-or won't be seeing it, is more accurate.

I looked at one Television Without Pity Forum to see if I was missing anything.

Apparently, many people found the drunk vamps funny. Also, it was apparently funny to see Sam rolling around on the floor sniffing. The only part of that that I thought was funny was when the female cop is looking at him like he's crazy and asks him if there's anything she should know. He looks at her, pauses, then says, "No."

Many remarked that the Arlene/Terry wedding video was a nice moment. I agree.

A lot of them liked Lettie Mae, Terra's mom, getting put in her place, but I thought it was forced.

I also thought the makeup of Lafayette's lips was fake looking, distractingly so.

Much appreciation for Alcide's chest. Hear, hear.

They also speculated that Bud -- the former Sheriff -- is actually the Dragon, the leader of the hate group. Else why bring him back. I hope he's not. He was always so sane.

They also said that Lilith was a hallucination. I didn't get that. Maybe that was why it looked so cheesy.

Several people said Martha is the only interesting character now. She's the wolf matriarch. I have to say she does have some great lines and an interesting face.

OH, someone mentioned that the casting and the clothes for the family party -- where they end up being slaughtered -- was just perfect. It did get my attention.

Anyway, FYI. I haven't been to that site in years. I used to go there all the time when Alias was on. There is always some interesting hating going on.

That reminds me -- the character they are all hating on right now is Nora, Eric's sister. Here's a quote: "If Nora chants and prays to Lilith one more time, I'm gonna reach into my TV and stake her myself."

Yeah, there was some foreshadowing there. That's a good theory.

Oh, the second best thing besides Pam's crimped hair was the line that Bud, the retired sheriff said to Andy, when he asked Andy if he was finished.

It was something to the effect that he had to get back to the hot tub because he had some "male enhancement ointment".

That made me laugh out loud.

Martina, great tip about Television without Pity! I had never heard of it before but since my pity for True Blood is in very short supply these days, I better check it out.

I liked the irony of the usually-aloof vampires walking down Bourbon Street all drunk and gawking and rowdy as so many humans are on Bourbon Street. That whole Lilith blood party scene reminded me of my acid trip days (well, minus all the blood and killing). I guess that's why I assumed both Lilith and Godric were hallucinations.

Godric. His name is Godric... but WTF with him anyway? Is he like a Buddist vampire ghost? Vampires are not supposed to have souls, how can you be a ghost without a soul? Jeeze....... Lame lame lame

Godric has appeared to Eric at least one other time since his "final death." He seems to represent Eric's higher self or superego, appearing each time to nudge Eric back on the right path. I'm a huge fan of the show Dexter- Godric's appearance reminds me of Dexter's dad, who has the same narrative purpose.

They've not explained Lillith or her tie to vampires. None of the known legends about Lillith have anything at all to do with vampires.

I do like Martha's character and the puppy is a cute touch.

They do very briefly explain Lilith, but if I weren't a Neil Gaiman fan, I would be SO lost (Gaiman devoted an entire issue to the myth of Lilith, and how she became the mother of demons/vampires). I think the vampire role playing game Vampire: The Masquerade also uses the Lilith-as-vampire-mother mythology, though Cain is named as the first vampire. This is all recent stuff, though-not in the vampire legends, as Wolfsong said. It's pretty fascinating to me how the vampire legends themselves evolve. I actually like the Lilith subplot.

I also like Martha's character- she's becoming more complex, more...dare I say, human. Less smoke monsters, more Were dynamics. I'm tolerating the fairies because they're investing so much time into that subplot that it must be going somewhere, right? But I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed.

I think you are probably correct here. While I enjoy fictional works and characters, my mind cannot help itself when it says "Hey wait a second. Vampires have no soul and therefore no sense of right and wrong."

Also Eric told someone, I don't remember who now, that Russell was the strongest vampire he had ever met. Vampire strength (at least in this show) seems to be based on age. Godric knew Jesus (this was mentioned in an episode) and was older than Russell.

As you can imagine, I favor werefolk and shape-shifters over vampires any day. While many find vampires to be sexy and sophsticated, my impression has always been that of an alley prostitute wearing way too much make-up and perfume to mask the dirt and decay beneath. (The exception being Bela Lugosi in the 1931 version of Dracula). Even Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Interview With A Vampire (1994) had that kind of sense of underneath decay about them in spite of their sophistication.

My complaint is the continual portrayal of werewolves as hulking, slavering, stupid creatures. There has been 3 cinematic exceptions to this that I am aware of;

Blood and Chocolate
The Twilight series
TruBlood

Werewolves in B&C and Twilight were given a very nice shift into actual wolves which was nice to see. I thought the Twilight wolves were a little big.

The two movies that werewolves didn't look too bad were the original and the remake;

Wolfman with (1941) Lon Chaney
Wolfman (2010) with Benicio Del Toro & Anthony Hopkins

Seems like the shifters and were folk in Trueblood are the rednecks of the supernatural world, the werepanthers being the most in-bred and ignorant.

Ha! I'm over-speculating right there with you! I was thinking about vampire bloodlines as well, and how the show has recently put more stress on the importance. Eric's whole speech to Pam seemed significant, that she was his only progeny and needed to preserve the line, or something like that. It seems strange to me that it was Eric (and not Bill) who got the moral wake-up call. Usually, Eric looks after Eric, and if it turns out to be the right thing to do, fine....whereas Bill seems much more motivated by doing what's right. So maybe it was Eric's bloodline that came through? We can be sure Bill's maker Lorena had nothing to offer Bill in that department...so maybe that's why Bill was still chomping down while Eric was having his little visitation with Godric?

Okay, okay, I'm done with the over-speculating (for now).

Yeah, you would think after that speech she would have given a lot more thought to not only making Tara, but in training her. Who would put their kid on a stripper pole in some seedy vamp bar? Even Jessica has taken on the air of a "princess" and at least takes advantage of Bill's status as king. I would think that at the very least, the bar atmosphere would be a little beneath Pam.

It's reminding me more and more of Lost actually. There were a couple of laugh out loud moments, one when Sookie apologized to Jason for hitting him with a blast of her fae power and he said not to worry, that she'd just gotten him in the head. Can't remember the second one.

It was awesome when Pam said to Tara something like "You don't know me. My happy face looks just like my mad face."

Ewww to Sam almost kissing himself.

Triple ewww to Russell spanking and flirting with that former born again creepy boy vampire. I wanted to say, "Russell, you would never had stooped so low if you hadn't been stoned. You can do better."

Some of Andy's responses were chuckle worthy. "Come on, buttplug." And just his reactions -- his face. Oh and when he said, "I hate this town." Chuckled again.

The seance was funny until the end. Pitting the two vets against each other -- another Lost moment. But Lafayette's faking the seance at first made me smile. And everyone else at the table was right on. Well done scene. (I want that table by the way. Nice woodworking.)

Alcide's ass -- yes! And Hoyt getting over his Jessica obsession -- thank you, Jesus.

It's so ironic that Jason and Eric are the voices of wisdom and compassion. Jason's talk to Sookie was so full of appreciation for how precious the little good one can get out of life is. There was a shot of him later in the background. He looked older and defeated, jaded, but thoughtful. It's interesting what they are doing with his character.

I love the show and as Mariamma noted, Pam's line, "My mad face is like my happy face" is an example of dialogue that sounds utterly new to me, as have other snippets, including "Peace is for pussies," "Humility is for humans," and "You smell awesome! What are you?"—none of which make sense outside of the social construct the show makes.

One of my least favorite aspects of the show is the heavy-handed analogizing with contemporary diversity politics.

It's fun to read people's comments about the show.

One of my least favorite aspects of the show is the heavy-handed analogizing with contemporary diversity politics.

Alan Ball SWEARS he's not creating some big allegory, that the show is really all about sex. Yeah, right.

But I guess there's something to showing a huge variation in the ways one can be oppressive. Seriously, everyone who believes anything strongly ends up doing more harm than the selfish pleasure seekers, even those who kill for pleasure. It was interesting that Roman the liberal was as oppressive a leader as anyone else.

Hoyt's brief flirtation with group membership in the last two episodes was telling. (It was so funny how the hate group self-identified as a hate group.) Anyway, he said, "Right here, right now I feel more love in this hate group than I ever felt at church or basketball or anywhere for that matter." But being a member meant he had to kill Jessica, and he was too sane for that. So he had to give it up.

I do think that what Sam said to Sookie when she asked if he'd ever want to be normal is pretty much endorsed. He said something about wanting to keep fighting for his rights. Sookie agreed and said that the hate would probably bother you anyway, whether it was directed at you or not. Ah, found Sam's quote: "No way, I’d say you’ve got to keep fighting stupidity. Every mind you change is one less on the bad guy side."

I'm really tired of Bill. I think we're supposed to be hoping for him to mend his ways and get back on the right path, but I'm just not invested in him anymore. It's been a while since he was an interesting good guy, and he's not all that interesting as a bad guy. He's just a tool.

I do like that the old Lafayette is back, the entrepreneur... so far he's made $400 off of 2 fake readings that turned out to be real. Love the reference to Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost, especially since he was running around just like her two minutes later, telling all the voices to simmer down...lol.

I predict that Russell (now THERE is an interesting bad guy) will be the one to bust Eric out of his current predicament, though it may be indirect and inadvertent. We've gotten a few cues that Russell is just playing along with all the Lilith worship and not giving full respect to Salome (Steve leading the prayer before the meal while Russell looks on like a proud and indulgent parent and Salome looks annoyed: perfect!), but now he's even teaching his renegade style of vampire leadership to boy-toy Steve Newlin, right down to feeding his werewolf army ("Awww! You got me a puppy!"). When it suits his purposes, Russell is going to put an end to this whole Lilith Fair thing, and Eric gets a way out of his predicament.

Or not. Who can predict anything with this stupid show anymore.... maybe a hundred strip-teasing fairies will appear, each bearing a name with some derivative of "Claude", do a magical square dance in a room full of man-pigs, and everything will suddenly make sense.

I'm not holding my breath.

I found myself stopping whenever I heard Andy's voice. I really like that actor. And Lafayette, of course.

Yeah but why does he look so much like Cris Angel the mind freak or The Crow?

The pig thing could actually work in real life although they did it very poorly here. If you've ever fed pigs you know to stand on the other side of the fence and never spill their feed on yourself because a hungry pig will f@#$ you up. A herd of wild boar is worse. In any case what a stupid way to tie up that storyline. No explanation of mystery up to the dragon. Who the heck was that woman anyway? Someone Jason knew from the past but I didn't really see the relevance.

At least they ended the smoke monster storyline in a somewhat logical manner

The woman who's the dragon is/was Bud's mistress; the one Jason knew from the past (she was his teacher) was Bud's wife, who apparently was away on a casino cruise or something.

Just thinking that the only two fat women in the series are the Dragon and Hoyt's mother. Not just unlikeable but presented as repulsive. Tsk.

None of the women in the show is really doing it for me right now except for Pam. I take that back. The witch who dates Andy, the one who is a waitress, is kinda cute. And Jessica can be gorgeous.

But the ones whose beauty is supposed to knock our socks off -- Luna, Salome, Nora, and Lilith -- not feeling it. Salome is especially disappointing. All that skin showing, and I am not hot for her. I think the character is just not interesting enough.

Thank heavens for Pam.

I loved Pam's reaction when Tara took out the new Sheriff.

Jason crying because Hoyt forgot him. Awwww.

I am surprised that they killed off the techy vampire. I thought she was interesting. At least more interesting than Salome. Is it me or the writing or the actress? But she's bad.

I liked the scene with the professor. I can't remember the details. Just thought it was mildly amusing.

I remembered so little of the episode that I went over to TWoP to read the forum.

There's talk about what Russell's accent means. More about his Nazi days or something else?

They said that, based on her reaction to Russell's desire to get fae blood however, Salome has some faery connection or fairy-related secret. I didn't notice that.

There is general appreciation for Tara taking the Vamp Sheriff's head and her "I don't know nothing about birthing no vampire babies" comment. I did not think the latter was funny. It snapped me out of my suspension of disbelief.

Lots of folks were also moved by Jason's sadness at losing Hoyt.

There was lots of "is he or isn't he?" talk about Bill, but I am so bored by the whole plot that I couldn't even read about it.

Apparently, the reason techy vampire got staked is that the actress got a better job on another show.

Lots of talk about how they can't seem to hide Anna Pacquin's pregnancy.

Lots of cheering that there was no Ifrit or Terry this episode.

Someone talked about how nice the scene was with Lafayette cooking dinner for Andy and Holly. It was a nice scene. Andy telling Lafayette he loved him. LOL. Loving Andy this season. And Lafayette.

People are confused and bored by the hallucinations of Lillith and Godric. I agree.

If this whole Sookie belongs to some evil vampire thing does not get interesting or is resolved stupidly and quickly, I will be annoyed.

Some of those folks over on Televisionwithoutpity need to get a life.

I actually loved that whole scene. And I think Pam liked what Tara did, no matter what she says in her outloud voice.

I really don't get why everybody hates Tara so much. While I don't care much for the "Tara is a vampire now" storyline...I LOVE Tara. I hope when the show is over we get to see more of Rutina Wesley in other projects - there's just something about her that I really like. A lot.

I am surprised that they killed off the techy vampire. I thought she was interesting. At least more interesting than Salome. Is it me or the writing or the actress? But she's bad.

I really liked Tina Majorino when she was on Big Love, so I was really excited to see her on TB. I'm mortified that she was killed off. What will she be doing next?

(I hate Salome. I hate the whole storyline. I want her and it to go away.)

There's talk about what Russell's accent means. More about his Nazi days or something else?

I think the accent was about dropping the modern fancypants accent pretence because it made sense as part of his rant about how old he is. I don't think there's anything more than that to read into it, honestly.

They said that, based on her reaction to Russell's desire to get fae blood however, Salome has some faery connection or fairy-related secret. I didn't notice that.

That wouldn't surprise me. I do think that the "blood of Lilith" that got everybody so drunk has got to be spiked with faerie blood or something - we remember how drunk Eric got off of Sookie's blood in the past and that faerie blood has hallucinogenic properties.

Lots of cheering that there was no Ifrit or Terry this episode.

Love Terry. Hate the Ifrit storyline.

Still love: Sam, Tara, Andy, and Pam. In that order.

And Lafayette! Don't forget Lafayette!

WHY do I even watch this any more?!?

Okay, Pam's red dress that laced up the back tonight. grrrrrr But her hair....not so much.

Everything else.......lame and annoying.

Plus.....the first fairy bearing female isn't Sookie, it's her cousin Haley. If you're going to f-ing fabricate a stupid ass story line then make sure it ties in with what you've already built. It wouldn't have been that bad if they had left out the part THIS VERY SEASON that her cousin was at the strip club WITH HER CHILD. They could have played it off that Haley was baren or something.

I swear to god if Dexter ends up being this stupid next season I'm cancelling my premium channel subscription. I'm worried about Dexter because I'm sure he's not going to kill Debra (no matter what the trailers allude to). And if Debra lives and knows, she's just going to become an even more ignorant character that I can't bare to watch!

When the head fairy ( or whatever the heck her title was) came out dancing (or whatever the heck that was); it was so lame, I laughed out loud.

OMFG.

As much as I'm over the fairies, my favorite line of the episode came out of the conversation between Andy and Maurella, the fairy that Andy impregnated:

Maurella: Did you or didn't you swear upon the light?!

Andy: All I know is that your finger was lit up and I touched it.

So...Season Finale...um... yeah. Where to start. Fairies having orgasms while birthing quadruplets, Jason discussing vampire annihilation schemes with his dead parents, Pam and Tara celebrating Pam's rescue with a 7 second full mouth kiss while Jessica grins and yells, "I KNEW it!" There's just no predicting where this show is going.

I'd like to say we can at least be sure that Russell Edgington is truly dead, but after seeing Bill rise back up out of a pool of his own blood, who's to say Russell won't do the same? Or maybe Bill now has the power to bring him back, since he's now the male Lilith/uber demon god/Super Evil Vampire. Really, what ARE the rules of this show now??

My favorite scenes took place at Merlotte's bar- not just because Maurella's orgasm/delivery was so outrageously over-the-top and made for one of the best comic scenes of the season... but because Lafayette with his Cajun margaritas was actually a knowing wink to the audience, that the writers know they're being outrageous and ridiculous in their subplots and want to acknowledge that with us.

So hear me out on this: Lafayette's only purpose in the finale was to be the spectator...and not just an accidental spectator, but a spectator with margarita in hand, ready and hoping to be entertained- just as I am every Sunday night when I sit down to watch True Blood (sans margarita, though one might help). And as things progress quickly from bizarre to "WTF, her light broke?!?", there was Lafayette (and Arlene and Jane Bodehouse) doing nothing but watching and saying all the shit that I keep thinking during the show. Example: Jane Bodehouse with her drunken confused laughter, exclaiming, "I don't understand what's happennninnnng...!" Neither do I, Jane, neither do IIIIII!!

Another example: Lafayette and Jane at the bar, watching Steve Newlin on TV (just as we all were)...and when Steve pukes up a little blood and turns into Luna, Lafayette turns to Jane Bodehouse and deadpans, "Well, I didn't see *that* coming." I might have said the same thing, except oddly enough, I did see it coming.

This is my least favorite season so far, but now that I've been let in on the joke, I find I can cut the writers a little bit more slack.

Thanks and good luck in your next endeavor, Alan Ball.

~The fairy giving birth was hilarious. The three sitting at the bar watching with cocktails in hand was awesome.

~I'm glad Russell is gone. He was such a pain in the ass.

~The kiss between Tara and Pam was really hot. :)

I laughed my butt off when Bill died. But then he came back.

I screamed and cussed when Tara kissed Pam. I just don't like Tara. Not even a little bit. And to have someone I adore (Pam) look like they are entering into a relationship with her just killed me.

Jason's parents were totally wrong. I just don't think they were intolerant and quite so redneck. Probably from what little I know of them from the books....but that's just not what I pictured.

Sam flying down Rosalyn's throat and then morphing was freakin' AWESOME!

OK, season's over. What did you think?

***** SPOILERS *************

Full frontal Eric was hot, no pun intended.

I was unimpressed with the Warlow plot in general. Bored really.

Terry's funeral was awesome.

Jason's D/s relationship should have been hotter than it was. But I love Jason.

Jessica has been on a long strange trip, but it's been interesting when so little else was.

I never thought I'd say this, but they have been over-doing it with Sheriff Andy's awesome reaction shots. It's almost contrived now.

Eric looking down at the recently ravished (for his blood) Jason and saying to him, "Jason Stackhouse . . . looking good." Damn, that was hot.

Less Tara . . . thank the gods. Less Pam . . . *pout*

Sam's new girlfriend . . . whiny and annoying. Sam telling Sookie basically to go take a flying leap . . . priceless.

Eric crying over his dying sister . . . awwwww. *sniffle* (sincere sniffle)

Having the vampires and humans have to pair up like reluctant prom dates -- pretty funny.

Tara and her mom's reconciliation . . . twisted but effective

Sarah Newlin . . . worked sometimes and not other times. When it worked, great camp.

Steve Newlin's death . . . cool.

Governor Burrell was a good nemesis. Vamp Camp was OK. It was all a little True Blood Lite.

I have hardly mentioned Bill and Sookie because, well, who cares?

Anyone else get the weird feeling Tara's mom has Hep V and is trying to pass it on? I didn't trust the reconciliation at ALL.

I have hardly mentioned Bill and Sookie because, well, who cares?

Not me. The show's teasers promised a lead character would die, and I was really hoping it would be Bill. Damn.

I'm wondering if next season is going to begin by telling us that the end of this season was a dream sequence. Am I the only one that felt the entire "Six months later" developments just didn't make any sense?

No, you are not the only one!

I used to eagerly wait every June for it to come back on.

Last season, it began to be difficult for me to watch and this season: I gave up.

I just could not watch it anymore.

I loved the first 3-4 seasons but then...

Not.

I miss how it was when things made more sense (in Vampire land anyway) and before Fairyland...

...IMHO, of course.

Okay, I do love True Blood. Or I did love True Blood.... Just what the F!? The show needs to END now! The last three seasons sucked. And I am not making a pun! I don't know what its even still on the air. The first few seasons were fab. But once that bloody witch storyline happened it all went down hill. And why did hbo only do 10 episodes this year? This season just seemed short and all rather pointless.

American horror story anyone?
