I like Dancing with Wolves, Sophie's Choice, Under the Tuscan Sun, Desert Hearts, Most of the old movies with big stars. Lil Jimmy, my grandson likes Home Alone (watched at least 50 times) and Pet Detective with Jim Carey(about 30 times); he has them memorized. When we watch these movies together he turns to me when someone says a cuss word or Kevin says something disrespect to his mother (Home Alone) his mouth wide opened in an O and says, "Oh no grandma, he should not have said that to his mother. It is bad." Then he giggiles! LOL

Me neither! When I was in the first grade one of the girls in my class had a birthday party. Her parents took us to see Old Yeller and sat us in the front rows! Guess they thought since it was a Disney film it was OK for kids. That was 45 years ago and I still want to crawl out of my skin at the thought of this movie.

I love, love, love all of these I quoted. I'm a sucker for a good chick flick, animated feature, sexy action movie, or most anything with Drew Barrymore or Sandra Bullock or Reese Witherspoon or Will Smith.

Another one that I can, and have, watched over and over again is Blue Crush. Girls kicking ass surfing. Nice. The Charlie's Angels movies too.

My favorite movie of all time is Auntie Mame. Though I like Lucille Ball, my preferred version is Rosalind Russell's. She's the real and true Auntie Mame, imo.

One of the reasons I love Solondz is that he doesn't propagandize. He draws portraits that he finds compelling or perhaps familiar but never with interpretation or judgement. Some people find that deeply disturbing. What is his point of view? What is he trying to SAY- what should we think. They project their worst traits upon him for showing them that mirror. I love that ambiguity and lack of agenda.

The Wizard of Oz - have it on for the second time this weekend!

I remember the first time I saw it on a colour TV and how magical it was when Dorothy opened the door and everything went from sepia to colour...
I also love the scene when Dorothy is up in the cyclone and Miss Gulch turns into the Witch of the East...My Grandmother took my Mom to see the movie when it first came out...Mom was about 3. When Miss Gulch turned into the Witch Mom decided she'd had enough and raced out of the theatre screaming...my Grandmother in pursuit. They spent the rest of the movie at the back of the theatre...occasionally Mom would peek in and scream again...I don't recall her ever watching this movie all the way through with us when we were growing up...

Some of these are older films, but I love them all the same.
Laura (1944) great dialogue
The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)
All About Eve (1950) again great dialogue
The Thing (from Another World) (1951)
Sunset Blvd (1950)
Almost all of Alfred Hitchcock's films
Victor/Victoria (1982)
Losing Chase (1996) gotta love Helen Mirren
Bound (1996)
I'm sure there are others that I can't think of at the moment.

me too. i read an article years ago that it was about the feminization of culture in the fifties, sort of domesticating men, making them happy in the suburbs.

i hated the idea, but when i looked at the film again, i had to agree. Turning Bick into less or a racist, criticizing the men for excluding women from after dinner conversation, etc.

Still, i love it. i also can watch another George Stevens film over and over again: I Remember Mama.

One of my all time favorites to watch over and over again, is _Laura_ (1944), starring Dana Andrews, Gene Tierney, Judith Anderson, Vincent Price and the great Clifton Webb as Waldo Lydecker. This is a classic film noir, if you don't know the film. It has a tight plot line, great, witty dialogue and wonderful cinematography. Yes the film is in b/w, but don't let that stop you. It is a murder mystery about love and betrayal. Check it out.

American Beauty - Lester Burnham is my kinda guy.

Walk the Line - especially the part at the end where Johnny is asking June to marry him. For the millionth time.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Kate Winslet, enough said.

Notorious - No, not the one about the Notorious BIG, the one from 1946 with Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant. Classic.
