Thank you Jo Jo for emailing me the list!

I was able to send out five postcards this afternoon! I have to pick up more postcards tomorrow!

I just got a batch of new cards, ready to be addressed & written & mailed. So, maybe in the next week or two, I will complete them :)


And, be forewarned, I am already planning to send holiday cards to my postcard peeps-assuming y'all are ok with that?

If we *do* holiday cards, I think I have a decent amount of them so if anyone wants/needs a box to help them out with cost, message me and I will get them to you in the next month or so. I am currently overloaded with cards as a result of my delusional need to stock up after Christmas-God knows I do not have the room to store everything-lol.

We got a postcard bonanza today in the mail...and Scoote is gloating because she got more than I did! :blink:

We got a peek of Washington coastline from Cara, a beautiful Colorado landscape from Justkim and I got the Golden Gate bridge from Nina...which came through the mail beautfiully by the way. :) Thank you all so much...it's so fun to get cards in the mail!

in my defense i had to gloat bc Fancy had put Jo 3 ahead of me. Now we are even....got a nice shot of Colordao from Kim, got a vintage card that told me to "do it now" from BUBA---i mean Nina :) and Fancy sent me a good health one....Speaking of Fancy i dropped the ball so badly with her daughter...i have the postcards,im still gonna send them out,but im hoping Katie likes seashells bc we have acquired a nice collection to choose from-so im gonna shine'em up and send her a nice little box!

i also have postcards sitting on our coffee table that needs addressed and filled out....hopefully this weekend ,since i have to fast the whole time, it will keep my hands busy!

and holiday cards sound cool to be....i TRY to stock up after holidays but Jo usually talks me out of it....maybe now she wont try so hard! lol

Well, I have been on this site three times this weekend to give an update here and all three times got distracted with other things that tore me away. So tonight I am determined to post what I have been itching to say. :thumbsup:

On Friday I received three wonderful postcards from JustKim, Fancy, and Rivkeh. Then on Saturday, I received yet another card from Chancie!

Kim, that lake is amazing with the reflections. Nature offers so many wonderful pictures. Of course, it helps that I am an outdoorsy kinda of person. Being raised in the woods has brought me a real love of what nature offers.

Fancy, I appreciated your very nice postcard. I was up in New England just the third week of last month. I had to travel up to school in Worcester, MA. The New England states are so beautiful. I definitely enjoyed the time that I spent up that way.

Rivkeh, as I told you earlier, I did look up the maze in which that picture was taken. I really liked your view that included the fleur-de-lis. I really like your eye for close-up detail. You have a knack for noticing things that so often times may go unnoticed. Too many times we look at the big picture or hone into what we want to focus on and miss the fine details.

Chancie, your card made me smile because it reminded me of me trying to plan for my trip to Worcester. I was trying to find somewhere close to that area to stay for the night before I needed to be there. That way I would do my travels the day before and would be relaxed and not rushed when I needed to arrive on campus. I would have liked to have done more sight-seeing, but I had not a clue where to go or what to see. Thanks so much for your card.

Thanks so much to all of you. I will buy the postcard backings because I also would like to send out pictures that I took here in our area. I have already found enough for four mailings. I am thinking that each time I will send all of you the same picture so that I do not get confused as to who got what. LOL! Sometimes I feel so old with my failing memory, but that will allow me to keep it straight in my mind. *Smile. So soon you all can begin to look for cards from me. I am so excited!!

Corkey and Ami, the Erie PA postcard is nice and makes me miss living up there! I lived a half an hour east of Pittsburgh, in a little town called Springdale. It is located on the Allegheny River and about ten minutes from New Kensington, PA.

Her name is Sarah and she has had some medical traumas dealing with bowel obstructions; they have left her with behavioral problems, so I offered to spend time with her one on one for us to do a project together - this postcard mailing. So if you receive something from me that has her name you will know who she is...thanks for understanding, because quite honestly she is excited to be getting these ready for y'all. *Smile. I will let you know when they are out so you can watch for them. *Wink.

Oh and I received a card from Ami and Corkey. We are in the same state!! Ya know I have NEVER been up Erie way. Maybe sometime I will have to make a trip up to check out the sights. The lighthouse on the card was beautiful! I used to collect lighthouses! Thanks so much. *Smile.

hey all

had a nice break from the texas heat this past week...spent a few days in nyc. witnessed a beautiful, legal queer wedding, caught up with some old friends, rode the subway and the ferry, got a personal tour of some fun places in manhattan and brooklyn. good times!

the only disappointment was missing all the earthquake action by managing to be on a plane. damnit.

getting caught up with home stuff and editing pics now. should have a new batch of cards soon.

I didn't check my mail from yesterday until early this morning and to my surprise(been a while) I had 2 postcards in it

Lis and Jess, I fished the Smoky Mountains when I spent 3 months in TN many years ago
Learned what a mudpuppy was when I grabbed my stringer of trout and it was sucking the life out of the last one
Honestly scared the crap out of me at the time because I didn't expect it
Tripped getting up so quickly and slid into the cold water
My TN friends were all laughing at me, I'd say with me, but I don't think so

Wil the Abbey is awesome, can't wait to to show R next time she stops by

Since it's finally Spring (or something like that :) ) I thought I'd bump this thread and see if anyone wants to do "the postcard thing" again this year.

We had some folks on the list that are no longer on the site, so I think it's best to do it this way:


If you want to send and receive postcards to your fellow planeteers, please send me a PM with your name and address
However you send it to me is the way it will go out to your fellow postcarders....so make sure you send the name you want used!
Once I receive a reasonable number, I'll start assembling the list and get it out (by email or snail mail) to everyone who's playing.
If you want the list emailed to you, please include your email address in your PM to me to save some back and forth.
Even if I had it last year, please send it again....my brain melted in between then and now.
Once you get your list, feel free to send postcards as frequently or infrequently as you like to as many or few folks on the list as you like.

just popping in to say i still suck. been shooting a lot of burlesque shows and working the day job. now, i'm fighting an eye infection that's just fucking my whole world up. grrr. but, now have meds for it and hope it'll clear up soon. i swear i'll get cards out to y'all.

As before the cards are done and ready to mail. I had Sarah and her mother Jenn help me once again. If you forget who they are Sarah is the little girl with all of the health complications who cannot eat hardly anything due to chemical and food allergies. Speaking of which, did anyone know that corn starch is put in cartons of milk but not plastic jugs of milk? She is lactose intolerant but that is just one insignificant fact that her mother has learned in her care. The corn starch is put in minute amounts so it doesn't need to be included on the ingredient list, but in case you wondered it's use is as an anti-coagulant. MMmmhmmmm....makes ya wanna chug down a carton of milk now. Doesn't it?? *Chuckle. So my postcards will be mailed soon. It is once again another picture taken locally.

Yay!!! THIS makes me SO happy!!! I picked up postcards for sending a few weeks ago (am now doing custody drop-off drives with my sister every other week - 3 hours from hom) and I thought...what a great thing to come of it...a nudge to the postcarders!! I happen to have 14 very old Disneyland postcards that one of my brothers returned to me when he found another brother with them and questioned what he was doing with them. These are over 30 years old and I bought them when I was a teen. I'm just wondering if I should keep them or send them out. They have no dates on them, but would probably be cool to look at for those that have been there and would like to see the difference between then and now.....what say y'all?

Not necessarily. It can start small and people can be added in as it goes along but let's give it a couple of days to see if anyone else is interested (and to pass the word along to those you think might be interested). Then I'll collect the addresses and send the list out.

If someone is interested but isn't fully comfortable with their name and/or address being out there, they can use their screen name and I can be a go between if they trust me. They can send their cards to me and I'll send them out with my own, for example.

This is a little more loosey goosey than the penpal thread with timelines and the like. Once we all decide we're good with the list, I'll collect addresses and send them out to each participant (for those who wish to remain incognito, folks can send their postcards to me and I'll pass them on and I'll send theirs out to everyone else as well). From that point on, people typically send your cards out in batches. As homoe said, we've missed a lot of the vacationing but that doesn't mean you can't send out cool or quirky or unique cards in addition to, or instead of, standard vacation postcards.

We're making the assumption that those that sign up are committed and won't flake out. Once the list goes out, people are free to start sending cards out immediately or at their leisure. By putting a name on the list, you are promising to send a card out to/for every other person on the list. If someone only wants to send to certain people, that's not what this is for. This is an all inclusive project and is super fun. Getting random postcards in the mail is really nice and puts a pep in one's step.

So far we have 8 participants. I feel that's enough to start so if folks want to start sending me their mailing addresses, I can start putting together the list and get it sent out as soon as I have all of them. If y'all want to wait until more sign up, that's fine too.

Those that requested some additional privacy will send your cards to me (make sure to note who is to get what card) and I'll send them through to the appropriate person.

If we have latecomers, I can add them on to the list, if everyone's okay with that.

To the folks that have participated in the penpal thread projects previously, there's no need to send money to me.

For those that are requesting additional privacy measures, send your postcards (with appropriate postage affixed) inside another envelope or package that you mail to me. When I get that envelope, I'll put the individual postcards in the mail. Just make sure that you make it obvious which card should go to whom. Who? Whom? Who knows? lol If you put their address on the card, that should be fine or if you want me to address the cards, I can do that. Just put sticky notes on the cards so I know where to send each one.

Each person needs to make sure to have adequate postage on every card, especially if you are making yours and it may be larger than a standard postcard.

I'm putting the finishing touches on the list...and waiting for a response to a question I should have asked someone before but forgot. You'll all have the list within the hour.

Remember....no one gets to pick and choose who you send your cards to. This is all in or all out. I won't have anyone feeling bad because someone didn't send them anything. That's just crappy and I won't have it, I say!

Also, don't feel bad if someone is shy and more private than some of the others. It's not personal. I take my privacy seriously, which is why I don't have a problem being a filter. The important thing is that we all signed up and we're all going to participate.

Hold the presses...I lied. Accidentally. I'm calling it 'work brain'. I have a major inspection coming up on Tuesday and I'm preparing for it and just forgot about the round trip postage for some folks.

If I am receiving cards to mail out again for privacy reasons, please do make sure I have postage $ or send your card to me and for that person in a small envelope so I can open it and send out what needs to go out.

Or I can tally it up at the end and someone can buy me a hamburger. Whatever works.

I think that at least one card to each participant should go out by the middle of September. That's giving everyone ample time to make or order or go shop for the perfect cards and to get them out in the mail.

If you want to do this again as it gets closer to the holidays, I see no reason why we can't just change the card type or still stick with postcards. If you want to mail more than one to everyone, you can certainly do that. I think that would be a fun surprise. Just remember that if it's connected to this project, if one person gets two, then everyone should get two. Fair's fair.
