I cracked up when I read this, I have been out of the country for awhile so when I turned 55 got this letter from aarp about a week later!! I love it!
Also can now go to 5% wed at sunmart!
AARP starts their campaign with people at 48... I freaked when I got my first invitation to join. I threw it away and have continued to to that, but lately I've been thinking about it. Last year I turned 55 and I freaked. Now when i see anything that says senior discount I ask what age they mean. I've very happy when they say 65.

OY is right. I have a bad back, have since I lifted a very heavy thing incorrectly when I was 19. When my back, um, tweaks, it usually hurts like hell and I has happened just turning in my chair. I really am mindful now about what I do.
I wish you pain free flexibility.

I feel too old to keep up with the changing slang teenagers seem to rhyme off. LOL I had a few young guys and a couple of guys around my age come into the shop today and I swear I could barely understand the conversation between them.
It's a good thing I didn't have to understand it to do my job. I still managed to have a good time with them and carried on a conversation for about 20 minutes. Afterwards they invited me out for drinks. LOL
I may be too old for that too. At least in this situation.

im in my 30's and loving it but i find there are times i feel to old to be refered to as little girl if its from someone that i dont know and they dont know me . to old for someone to tell me im to young for anything which seems to happen to me alot. always goodlilfemme
I was having a conversation with a younger friend, who because she is over (x) years old, believes she is too old for cuddle parties, getting a tattoo, travel, all kinds of things. I came right out and told her that I'm (x+never mind) years old, and blast my age, I'll be doing all those things and lots of other crazy stuff until I die. If you rest, you rust, I say.
I began to think that, except for dressing like my teenage daughter, I'm not really "too old" for much. I don't have the same social needs as a younger woman, and don't get a lot out of clubbing like a disco duck anymore, but it doesn't mean I would never go out dancing. If I made a great effort at getting into shape, I'd run marathons, but maybe flipping around in cartwheels isn't a great idea. I can't eat like I used to when I was younger, but that's a change I wanted to make anyway. But I can't offhand think of anything else.
Are there any activities that someone of (x+y) years is "too old" for, in your thoughts? How many of you have done something like bungee jumping or sky diving, or traveled to some far corner?

As per my hairdresser, I am too old to have a streak of a crazy color in my hair. I asked for that, and she said very directly, with no smile and awkwardness or harshness, "No, that's for younger people." It didn't upset me. I found it funny (maybe the way she stated it like a certain fact, like the sky being blue) and reflected that my job might have an issue with it. I like to let hairdressers do what they wish with me anyway :)

I just got my hair cut. It was really long. (it's still long by most people's standards.) I've put myself through this several times before. I think that a guy having long hair is _________ fill in the blank with what ever negative rationale you can think of. The latest thing is the age thing. So I went to
a friend that is a stylist and she cut my hair. She did a really good job. And even though I tried to psych myself up for this, pre-grief and all, I'm kinda sad that I did it. After I had it cut I saw several men older than me with long hair, including one guy with white hair.
So I'm sad that I bought into the whole 'you're too old for this' crap.... :-(

lots of things... but the first that came to mind is that I feel I'm too old to be playing around (eg. with other people's feelings...) not that it's ever ok to do that, just feel I don't have the time and energy for games anymore and when I meet people that think otherwise, I calmly walk away...
It doesn't always have to be a mean game-playing, it might as well be a part of flirting/chase me/so many want me-you should try to compete and win me etc. etc. etc. For some people it's part of dating and that's fine. I just feel I prefer a bit more straight forward communication...

Apparently I'm too old for dating, of all things. When did it get so complicated? Whatever happened to the shy awkwardness of asking a lady for a date and taking the time to get to know her? I'm having a hard time getting my head around the idea of skipping any form of dating and just jumping in the sack together. Case in point, over the weekend I got propositioned for a one night stand...by a woman I have never laid eyes on before. THEN, she called me a prude when I politely declined her offer. Is this what they now call "dating"? If so, it's a damn good thing I've embraced being single. Oh how I long for the days when things were simpler, and those with integrity were respected and cherished. Maybe it's just the local scene, or maybe, just maybe, I really am a prude.

Honestly, the person you're describing who called you a prude for not wanting to go home with her—she sounds drunk.
I was having a hot exchange with a butch once who asked, the moment she learned my age, "Do you have any problems lubricating?" and "How's your libido?"
I don't know if you're too old to date; only you know when you're done with all that. But I'm willing to bet, you're old enough to know when someone isn't eligible to date you. Don't let one loser get you down. It's a big world, and it's the only one we've got. It's a beautiful world, too, full of people with good hearts.

I couldn't honestly say if she was drunk or not. And while I appreciate directness, that was a little too direct for my liking from someone I knew nothing about. I haven't given up on the idea of dating, but if that's all there is to it, I'm really not interested.

Your never too old to feel like a love sick teenager. :) Isn't it a wonderful feeling? Lol.. I am 44 and in many ways starting my life all over again. Some of it scares the hell out of me. Some of me just finally feels settled. But the part of me that fell in love with my Sir and Daddy is fuck yeah!! a love sick teenager!! lol.

not to know, that I know things I will only share in an intimacy that goes beyond the moment...
not to know that my life continues until it's my time to go...
not to know that until that happens I live fully, sensually, creatively...
not too old...to know that love is about loyalty, and beauty, trust, and enjoying all this life has to offer...
not too old to KNOW.

Exceptionally loud neighbors.
Boys going through the almost eighteen year.
Bad drivers.
Apparently drive thru windows since I can't hear them or understand them.
Kids walking the streets after midnight.

I'm not too old to enjoy any of the challenging thrills I always enjoyed. I enjoy them more, and seemingly enjoy more of them, every day.
I'm not too old to enjoy deep, intellectual conversation with a good friend who stops by for a visit.
I'm not too old to haul my old refrigerator down the narrow, winding stairs and out to the curb by myself. (I hope.)
I'm waaaay too old for disabling self doubt. Waaay, waaaaaay too old to let a dishonest, dishonourable person undermine my sense of self worth. That crap just has to stop.

There are not many things i feel to old to do. my mind says i can do as i please. my physical limitations tell me there are any number of things i am not capable of accomplishing on my so. This makes me feel old.
An example is this, my mind tells me i can go down the stairs alone. my family and doctors tell me i can't. i think i can drive a car my body says "what are you crazy."
Old though is relative in ones mind and soul. my body has made the decisions for me.
Today is a good day i have clear thoughts and am not totally confused and lost in O/our house. It gets tough sometimes when i see just how childlike i have become at what seems to me a fairly young age.
As i stated when i started there are not many things i feel to old to do, i am old enough to know what my body is no longer capable of. Sometimes this makes me sad, other times i just grin and bear it and feel disappointed i will not be bungee jumping this weekend.

Whirl-wind romance or Typical romance style. I can't do romantic drama anymore so I can't deal with possessiveness, control, tantrums, care taking demands, and those who don't give me the space to be an independant person. I'm too old and tired to be someone's Catherine to their healthcliffe. Treat me like a friend, have great sex, let me lead my life and as it develops and see how we fit, it may be a good thing.
I'm too old for insecurity and low self esteem in partners anymore. I can't cope with extreme shyness, inability to communicate or jealous bullshit. I will take care of myself so you don't have to, and I expect the same of you. I'm happy to help support you at times when you need your friend, but not a parent in the form of a partner. I don't desire for you to be my "Daddy" either outside of any bedroom context.
I don't want a parent and I don't want to be one. I don't want someone to look after me and I look after them. I want us to look after ourselves and include each other in our lives like friends and adults. What goes on in the bedroom is our fantasy about losing or gaining control, but it stays there.
This morning I told my girl I was too old to run in the snow. 20 minutes later she left for her yoga class and I felt some significant exercise guilt. Then I told myself I was too old to make excuses and just needed to gear up for my run. Made it a slow 3 miles out and a slower 3 back and then fell on my ass walking up my own sidewalk. Sitting here with an ice pack on my "good" knee I've decided that tomorrow morning I'm going to be too old to leave the house until April.

This is the only thing that has changed for me (I am 43). Riding a roller coaster made me a bit dizzy and "thrown off", while on it. I could suppose I could google it to really understand it, but it is something about equilibrium and aging.
Otherwise, nothing has changed. 43 is still pretty young I suppose.

isn't it interesting the way we age hits us in different ways?!? When it comes to red lipstick, for me it's the only color (I think) looks good on me, but nevermind the nailpolish, I've always preferred clear...
Manual transmissions no matter how pretty the car(alas) can be very impracticable when you live in a hill-filled city (like I do). I'm more interested in fuel economy and comfortable these days.

But I don't feel "too old" for anything.

I feel too old to sleep on the floor/ground. I can get down but I may not be able to get back up.

I'm 42 and I still shop there. Though now it's twice as costly since my teenager is shopping there with me. I got the call about the hot cash too- not that I remember where I put it. Can they pull it up by phone number? I *love* that they called to remind. I get so annoyed when I find "cash" from other stores with mystical dates that have passed.
I'm 55 and can still pass for someone in their thirties and can get away with shorter dresses...although I don't shop at Hot Topic. Lulu's (online) has some really nice outfits.

Work! I'm getting to old to work so many hours and not enjoy it and to tired to enjoy the rest of my life. Which isn't much when you consider I'm gone about 14 hrs a day, then ya have to eat, sleep and bathe.

Base or cliff jumping! My bones say I am too old for either one of these fine activities! Lol!

I agree Blade, I work between 12-15 hours a day and that is just too much. I also agree with you that after a long day there is only enough time for the essentials and no fun time. Hang in there Blade.

No doubt it wasn't at all the appropriate response, but the comment about glittery eyeshadow and crows feet made me laugh out loud. I mean no offense when I say it is such a mix of pathos and humor.
Regarding what I'm now too old for, for some weird reason I feel as though I have finally reached an age where I'm not too old for anything. It's probably not the wisest thing.

Missing sleep. Anything under 6 hrs kills me now more than it used to.

I finally thought of something I am too old for! I am too old to be spending time with people I don't want to spend time with, doing things I don't want to do.
Life is too darned short.

Worrying about making everyone but myself happy.
Saying something I do not mean even if it is nicer, and I do not wish to hurt them.
Making promises to any one.
Giving what I can not spare for myself.

I just now discovered that I am way too old for my current squeeze to be so wasted from her niece's graduation party that she cannot contact me tonight. Color me done.

Too old to meet the "one" and start a family of my own. It's a loss I'm mourning. But it means I'm free to pursue other dreams.

Moving.
I am going to pack up the truck and trailer when it's time to go, and have an estate sale company come and take the rest. I. Am. Done. Moving.

Same here, I'm done with moving my own stuff. I have been at my place now, come August, almost nine years. I've already got movers lined up. I even know where I want to live next. I just gotta get a few details in my life cleared up (health stuff, etc), then I will be moving to my new place. Can hardly wait.... :bunchflowers:

I'm too old to be moving heavy stuff, by myself, I used to think it was so easy but as I get older, it becomes apparent that I am no longer a spring chicken, but health issues add to this.

I am feeling too old to go fishing at the crack of dawn. I simply can't see well enough to haul the boat before daybreak or launch it in early light. I suppose I'll have to start evening fishing, or simply camp out the night before on the riverbank.

As I was driving home, I watched an older woman toddle out to her curb, trying to drag a trash can with her. It was hard for her to do. I related oh so well with this. I use to put in acres of fence, haul hay bales up into the rafters and muck stalls for hours in the dead of winter...now its an effort to drag a trash can (albeit a loaded one) to the curb.
it can be depressing.
but then, I also dont worry about inpractical things, like what purse goes with what shoes that go with what outfits. I wear clothes I like, that I feel look good on me and dont worry about the judgement or pleasure of others
I dont care if all my things come from Potter Barn.
I wear make up when I want and go face ass naked when I can. Its my right to decide if this evergreen is going to be a christmas tree for the day
I eat prunes for health and because I love them and dont care if they get a good laugh from anyone when they see them in my house.
Right now I have my own teeth but that may change someday and by god, wont it be nice to have them? Something new in an old body!
I love how my skin is changing. It isnt wrinkled much at all, but some. My genetics keep me from overwrinkling. But I love the soft lines it has developed. And how it creases more in bendy areas. And how I LOVE to lotion it every night...I love taking care of this old bag of skin...its been good to me and I love to tend to it as it changes.
I might not move as fast, or be able to go as far, but where I have gone, is nowhere near as important now as where I have yet to go. I think this is the velvet stage of my life...so soft to touch and a pleasure to feel...
I feel too old to work all these hours and travel this much. I need to rest a while.

I'm ditto'ing all of y'all ... too old for drama ... moving... moving stuff... heavy'ish yard work / landscaping ... getting too old for damn near everything! lol <-- that makes me think I'm gonna be a cranky o' bugger when I'm really old!

Too old for too many busy days back to back, I need to spread things out more these days which bruises my ego because a few years ago I was never still for more than 5 mins.
