View Full Version : Average Age of the Planet

Since it was mentioned, I have to admit that I am curious what is the average age. In the support group that I'm in, I'm one of 2-3 older guys. The rest range from 16-25 (and boy! makes me feel old!)

So identifiers, just curious as to what is the average age of the community at large.

I think it's ok. The younger guys have mentioned that they like to hear my side of things because it gives them an insight into what might be (good or bad). I don't any age is a bad thing; it's just a different thing and a different perspective. Being open to that perspective is important and closing your mind to it, IMO, isn't helpful for anyone. We all have a need to be heard and actively listened to on both sides of the coin of respect.

Nope, Jen, because if we weren't here, there wouldn't be a website at all. People will come to us as they need to, whatever their ages might be; but if you and I and everyone who is over thirty left the site to make room for them, well, what on earth would anyone come to... since yanno... the site owners are also over thirty? ;)

I think the vibrancy and richness of the site is directly due to the mix of ages we have; having only one narrow age range would defeat the purpose, yanno?

Andrew, Jr.

I think age is just a state of mind. If you really think about it. We can all learn something from each other, only if we are open to it. If not, then we miss out on alot.

Love,
Andrew

The next poll should be How old do you feel. Of course if the mental pause monster is around some might have to wait a day or too to take the poll.

WELL! The "youngin's" have a life!! AND, they are still gettin' laid! (Just kidding to some of you married and involved folks!)

OK, I may have "revealed" something here about myself, huh?!

Really, "we are some of the ones who paved the way" for what/HOW it is today. Whether or not young kids and/or young adults grow to learn and appreciate that in history or as part of the "process" to continue on - or not, remains up to them... and I HOPE they continue on to be radical for our cause(s). I will be, until I can no longer breathe! (But, I respect ALL ways of "contributing". It doesn't just have to be marching on the streets, etc...)

I'm OK, in fact... GOOD with all of that/this! I'm just so proud of our history and any part that I was fortunate to experience! Existing HERE (at this site), in fact - is "something" special in history and time!

(And I may or may not still get lucky now and then at age "fiddy-somethin'"... out here in the woods!)
____

Seriously, my best "female" friend died at the age of 98. I learned SO MUCH from her. And her gone from this physical plane has left SUCH A HUGE WIDE OPEN VOID IN ME!!!!!

SHE SAID TO ME:

I will always be alright, as long as I remain "teachable". I will never forget her, nor that advice.

:heartbeat:

I like the age range here. I don't often get along well with people in my own age range and tend to, instead, have a good number of friends who are older than me. Most of the time I just forget about age, I don't even remember to ask anymore, cause I don't care. If you make me smile and we have something to talk about. BRING IT ON!!

Age is just a state of mind for me, I just turned 40 but I don't FEEL 40. No one is too old to be here and be an important part of the Planet. We all have something to offer others, and besides, the older you are, the more experience you have and the more insight you can bring to the table.

Linus

I suppose I should have referenced the thread (http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=365) and someone had said that the Online B-F community was a lot older, hence the desire to hold on to the older terms of Butch and Femme.

I'm 53 with an 8 year old son. I party hardy in Disneyland twice a year and love kiddie movies. My spouse and I leave our "FUDDY DUDDIES" at home so that our son has two age appropriate playmates. I love my current age. There is not one day of my life that I would give up to relive another. The good was great and the bad was terrible. All of my same age friends agree, that none of us came into ourselves and realized ourselves until our 40's. Since then, it's been wonderful! Old age ain't for the meek and if I were all of you younguns, I'd start jogging now so that old age can never catch up with you!

I dont know but if it were just old farts..... on this site it woould be awful boring......and not very diverse. Of course if was just younguns..... ya'all sure would miss me and all the other old farts and Depends crowd!

I like hanging with the young guys...and sure would miss them if they were not here!

I like the diversity, now if you can just add some kwanzaa smilies and tibet flag and maybe a few holidays that are not " judeo christian" and flags of various countries in Africa,South America, and puerto rico, Haiti, Dominican Republic, we would have diverse smilies as well :D

I truly enjoy being in my mid-40s. I can't imagine returning to a previous age.

One thing I enjoy so much about my job is that I experience diversity in every aspect: age, race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, personality, etc.

So many things color my world and help me grow in becoming a more accepting and loving person.

Keeps me thinking young, and sometimes makes me quite glad that I have already past some of the speed bumps in the road between 20 and 50. Also makes me look at the young people today and go.....now why didn't I do that? I guess as they say we live and learn.

Is it OK that we are older? Would younger people feel more welcome if those of us who are older were not here?

I think that the only way that younger people would feel unwelcome would be if the older people were giant asshats about the younger people. I haven't seen any of it here, but I remember on the dash site I saw quite a bit of ageism toward the younger folks. I'm 32 now, but was in my early/mid-20s when I first started hanging out at the dash site, and there were quite a few people who were gigantic asshats to me and said some really shitty things regarding my age (or lack of age, or whatever).

Those people stopped giving me the business eventually, whether because I'd been around long enough that they got over it or because I got older and ergo more acceptable to them - but I haven't forgotten who they are. Believe me. (Ask me about my grudge-holding abilities!)

Frankly, the only queer space that I've ever experienced/been witness to shitty attitudes toward younger folk has been within our community (both irl and online). I don't know what that's all about.

I like most of the older people on here. I have been on BF since I was 18(I started on the dash site). Back then there was almost no one my age. I am still here at 22. I feel I socialize better with older people because they are more mature.

The only thing that upsets me is when I get discounted because of my age. I know I don't have as much wisdom as others but that does not mean I am stupid or immature. People who underestimate me because of their age are proving to me they are immature and judgmental.

I think it is actually a really awesome idea. There are a few gay/lesbian communities out there, and people are flocking to them. They are expensive, though.

Someone who is good at creating that kind of thing should do it. If it was in a half decent location I would seriously relocate (a 55+ type community).

I used to be insecure about stating my age. I am 57, Gemini, femme, Canadian. I thought I was too old to be of interest to younger butches. I turned that around and am grateful to be my age. I have lots of life experience, a feisty attitude, a kind and gentle heart. I still haven't found a soul mate, but the journey is certainly a lot of fun. And, Ciaran, you are one of the butches who made this "older and wiser" femme have a marvelous time at the get together in Vegas.

I think you're cool. Sometimes people are a bit overly wary of new people. I like that you bring your own experiences from the real world and are not just another person who has been online for years and years and knows all the right lingo and protocol. You also don't get angry or defensive when people seem to misunderstand you, which shows a lot of class. We need new blood- in terms of new people and younger people. I am glad you are here. I was barely 23 when I joined the dash site. I'm 33 now. What a difference 10 years makes. I had only been out of the closet for a year and I knew very little about the butch/femme dynamic. I was just heart-broken over a breakup and Google'd "butch femme" and it popped up.

I met one of my closest friends on that site and a few others who would lead me through some of the most profound awakenings (and painful lessons) of my life. I don't regret any of it.

Although I've recently had a set-back due to a very difficult breakup, I feel like life began at 30 for me. So much makes more sense now. I can't explain it. It's like puzzle pieces locking together. I don't mind age at all so long as I can be healthy, happy, and "with it" for the duration. ;)

I was ca.45-ish (can't remember the year) when I was very active on the Technodyke site, then spent about five minutes on Dash and ended up here for 2.5 years. I'm now 50.

I'm 57, will be 58 not too long from now. Started finding my footing as a butch on the old 'dash' site, and the .net one as well. Was on here briefly for awhile, but it seemed pretty dead at the time. I DO see a lot of handles I recognize. I hope if any of y'all remember me, it's good and not bad.

Leigh here.

And I'm over-joyed it's a mixed age, multi-generational site. There is nothing so boring as a bunch of old farts sitting around watching each other die. Blah!
