I prefer shaved arm pits for others as well as myself. I shave my legs, too. Sorry if this puts my butch card in jeapardy. I like to see leg muscles clearly. I don't like the smell of hairly arm-pits- on women or men.
Hummmm.... I just have never been into body or facial hair, I think even when I was het. More than one man I dated had to shave off a beard or mustache if they wanted some nookie. No wisker burns for me! But, we are all different about this stuff. Like whatever you want....

<---shaved. Everywhere. Everything. Even my arms. Just a personal preference for myself. However, when I'm in that lazy "omg why did I ever start shaving" phase I still at least shave my underarms because I can't stand to feel hair there. I'm just quirky like that I guess.
As for others that I am with...I prefer their preferences for themselves. It's all about being comfortable in your own skin. :)
I think hairy pits are hot. This might have hit my programming when one of my first girl crushes was an unshaven hairy beautiful Cicilian hippie exhibitionist flirt.

I shave when I wanna.
However, I don't like the societal expectation that women's bodies be hairless or near-hairless. Hairy pits and legs and pubes are secondary sexual characteristics and I'm not sure what the meaning is behind shaving those off. Then again, facial hair is a secondary sexual characteristic, and most facial-hair owners shave daily.

For me, personally, I don't really even care about the societal expectations side. Maybe I'm just selfish like that...lol I'm more about the "oooh that feels nice" when I run my fingers across my own skin. Odd, since I like the feel of hair on others. Once again, I am a bit quirky...lol

Just thinking I love the threads that starts! The other thing is I really have no attachment with what I prefer about pits and hair based on social convention (no matter what culture). I posted my answer for myself earlier.
I grew both my pits and leg hair out in college and grad school (the first grad school adventure) for a few years and later just decided I liked them shaved better. It was "the thing to do" back then for feminist women. In fact, I began to think about the fact that I was doing this based on what other people liked, not myself. I'm just not one for a lot of hair anywhere, I think. And have no attachment with it and political ideology either at this point in my life.

I guess the picture thing didn't really catch on...bummer.
In answer to the question, I have had partners who were both clean shaven and au natural and if the chemistry is there, the chemistry is there, makes no difference. For Me it's all about if she carries it off, if she has the self confidence to say "convention be damned!" that's the turn on.
while it may be neither here nor there,
Lesbian women respond differently than straight women when exposed to suspected sexual chemicals, according to a new brain imaging study. (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/05/060508_lesbian.html)
The finding builds on previous research that suggest that gay men responded in a way more similar to heterosexual women than heterosexual men when exposed to a synthetic chemical.
The natural version of this chemical reportedly appears in high concentrations in male sweat.
The new study extends the research to homosexual women.
It found that lesbians' brains respond in a fashion more similar to that of heterosexual men than of heterosexual women when exposed to the sweat chemical and a synthetic chemical that has been detected in female urine.
"Both studies … indicate that the physiological response in brain regions associated with reproduction are different in homo- and heterosexual persons," Ivanka Savic, a neuroscientist at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, said in an email.
Savic, who is the lead author of both studies, cautioned that neither study proves people are born gay. The response could be biological or learned. Determining an answer will require further study.
The most recent results were published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Savic added that the similarity between homosexual men and heterosexual women seems stronger than the similarity between lesbians and heterosexual men, highlighting the notion that male homosexuality is quite different than female homosexuality.
While pinpointing how homosexual men and lesbians differ requires further study, Savic said, "possibly the lesbian group is more heterogeneous and the mechanisms more diverse."
Smell Test
In the current study, Savic and her colleagues exposed lesbians and heterosexual women and men to a testosterone derivative produced in male sweat known as AND. The subjects were also exposed to an estrogen-like compound called EST found in female urine.
Some scientists believe AND and EST are pheromones, substances emitted by an individual to evoke a specific response in another member of the same species. In many animals, pheromones play a role in sexual attraction.
According to the results, lesbians processed neural responses to AND and EST more like heterosexual men than heterosexual women.
This lends further support to the idea that the chemicals activate the brain differently from common odors, Savic says.
She adds that she and her colleagues are cautious to call the compounds pheromones. In the paper, they call them "candidate compounds for human pheromones."
Charles Wysocki is a member of the Monell Chemical Senses Center and a professor of anatomy at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
He says the new study clearly shows that lesbians, heterosexual women, and heterosexual men respond differently to the chemical compounds in male sweat and female urine. But he adds that the response is likely odor-derived and not pheromone-derived.
"The difference across the three groups in response to odors is intriguing, [and] those differences need some sort of explanation," he said.
What Are They Sniffing?
Wysocki disputes the evidence suggesting that AND and EST are pheromones.
"What [evidence] is available comes from the area of entrepreneurial pursuit," he said.
According to Wysocki, California-based entrepreneur David Berliner introduced the compounds into a product he marketed as a way to arouse the opposite sex.
Arousal would come through detection of pheromones with the vomeronasal organ, a bunch of nerve endings in the nasal cavity of some vertebrates believed to be sensitive to pheromones.
"Unfortunately for Dr. Berliner and his group, the whole concept for a functional vomeronasal organ [in humans] has gone down the tubes in the last decade," Wysocki said.
Wysocki's own research, published in September 2005, has shown that gay men prefer odors from other gay men, while odors from gay men were the least preferred by straight men and women.
Had Savic and colleagues obtained their results using real body odors rather than synthetic compounds of the putative pheromones, Wysocki said "that would be phenomenal. I'd be yelling it out."
Michael Meredith is a neuroscientist at the Florida State University in Tallahassee. He too said the results are "very interesting" but added that the suggestion in the paper's title that the compounds are putative pheromones amounts to "spin."
"It doesn't get to the point what the differences in the brain processes are," he said, adding that any argument over whether the brain response results from an odor or pheromone is "just speculation."

I think body hair is hot and I love body smells too. Not BO. There is no place for BO. But clean cock hair and armpit hair smells are gloriously erotic!
I myself shave my armpits and legs, tho like AtLast said, there was a time I did not for political meaning. And then I realized I hated it. I needed to feel what was womanly for me and unshaven was not it.
As for bio men smelling bad...hmmm...I am with someone right now who was born male. It makes me cringe when I read things like that. Almost as much as it does when I hear gay men say lesbians smell like rotten fish. To each his own I guess. I just never would say it that way...but I do get why some would. I frankly like the way my sub smells...but then there is stimulation to that smell...
and yes, he is very hairy except when he does a full body shave...

Gay men, leather, sweat pit smell to me is wayyyyyyy different than straight bio guy smell, I'm not sure if it's cause it's engrained or because I'm not attracted to straight bio males at all.. I was thinking about it cause my Owner was a pit hog so maybe it's sensory but I'm unsure cause as far back as I remember it icked me out.. On my partner I have no preferences as it's a part of them - I'm more concerned about good hygiene. Also, I wouldn't feel comfortable telling someone to shave as it's their body and the hair isn't harming me in anyway - at least I hope not! LOL!
A close family member loves hairy women and found it highly amusing when I told them that my Italian cousins confiscated my razors when I lived there - every time I bought one it just 'vanished', lol! I trim everything every couple months, the only thing I shave is my face.
A partner can do as she pleases with her body hair, though there are times I will be granted the pleasures of her natural smells, everywhere.
o222Good. I quoted you because I do take offense to your "unintended offense". Here's why. I am a hard working dog. Sometimes no amount of deodorant, cologne, or lysol for that matter is going to curb the stink I can work up. On that day, I stink because, I stink that day. Has nothing to do with the fact that I may have suddenly developed a mental illness through out the day. And, on the flip side, I have experience (daily) with folks that truly are mentally ill. None of them stink like BO. Does BO automatically equal mentally ill? Absolutely frickin not.
I mentioned above that sometimes I like a smelly partner pit. That doesn't make me mentally ill either.

Yanno I thought of this for a long long time, and I have to add that some people may have something wrong with their body chemistry I know I have a friend who has this and I really can't remember the name and sometimes she has to shower 3 times a day because she gets an unusual body odor and there was nothing mentally wrong with her. It's like when someone has halitosis they can't help what is going on in their mouth and it's not like they don't have good dental hygiene it's just their body chemicals that are all cattywompus.
"As explained by R. Kenneth Landow, an associate professor in UCLA's Department of Medicine and Dermatology, body odor is a common symptom of diabetes, gastrointestinal ailments and the now rarely seen typhoid fever. Hormonal fluctuations and other metabolic changes, such as high glucose readings in a diabetic, cause cause unusual if not always unpleasant scents to permeate from the skin."

I have waxed my legs for 30 years. Never shave them. As time has gone by, hair now minimal and does not feel stubbly. Do it monthly and I am fine with that.
Underarms. Painful to wax. They drive me crazy after I shave them, itches like crazy-not sexy to scratch armpits. Once in a blue moon, I suck it up and shave anyway. I don't have much hair under my arms to begin with.
I have OCD traits so you can imagine the care with which I practice good hygiene. I pretty much always smell like a sweet flower, lol.
Nether region-well and very neatly trimmed, don't shave there, see armpit issue.
If a butch doesn't like my little bit of hair under my arms, oh well.
Re: butches, don't care if they have hair, no hair-just do not have BO please. I understand some people have a medical condition but this is rare. Some people just do not bathe regularly or use deodorant. I have nearly gagged in an elevator before and had to hold my breath for 6-floors, not fun.

Oh, I left out something important: I am not talking about the smell of arousal or the odor that may emanate from our bodies during, or after, hot sex. I absolutely love that smell. It is wonderful and a turn-on unto itself.

This wasn't what I was talking about. I'm not talking about kink, or after a hard day of physical work. I will share a real situation. I worked for years with someone, successful, brilliant, even famous for a while professionally, but he never wore deodorant. This was not a physical job, it was like an office and he stunk in a God Awful way. If you had to stand next to him and have a conversation, you would gag. Now, I mean really, what is up with that? What the F^^^ is up with that? He wasn't allergic, he just chose not to wear deodorant. I definitely think there was something mentally off with him.

I know you weren't talking about physical work and/or pleasure in your previous post. I used that as part of my examples in pointing out your generalized sweeping statements equating people with BO to the mentally ill. One does not automatically mean the other.
I would be really surprised if there is someone on this site that has not had a similar experience as you talk about here, a co worker, a classmate, someone on a plane....etc, that has stunk, or just plain stinks. One thing that sticks out clear as a bell for me in your post here is, "he just chose not to wear deodorant." That was his choice. I don't know one person in my life that had the choice to be mentally ill or not. I know it's rare but, not everyone gets a choice to stink or not. A lot of people in this world chose not to wear deodorant for one reason or another. Again, it's a choice, not a mental illness.
It offends me that you think he's mentally ill because of BO. Maybe he's just rude or insensitive. Maybe he gathers pleasure from annoying people around him. Maybe he just doesn't give a crap that you think he stinks. Non of those things equal mental illness.
I think all the 24/7 good smelling people in this world should thank their lucky stars they didn't live pre deodorant. I can't imagine how miserable they would have been.
I'm taking myself out of this discussion on the thread. I'm sure it's not what the OP had in mind. Feel free to PM me if this topic needs to go further. I'm not able to be online everyday, it might take one or two to get back to you.

Google it.
All I said was that it's a red flag that
someone may be having difficulty.
But back to hair.
I was a young hippie in the late 60s and the more
hair, the better! I still can appreciate a lot of hair,
for example, Bears are cool!
Yet, I do really like it that my partner shaves her
underarms. I think it's one of those differences
between us that defines us...

I guess I would of had a talk with HR or the supervisors..

Or maybe the guy himself.
If it was that bad that people would gag near him, I could imagine easily that it affected his business in one way or another.

Well, I was relatively new, and he was a superior. It was sort of a running joke with the old-timers, they would just nod and say Oh Yeah! But they didn't really make anything of it, because he was an old friend and very important. Go figure.

Ryan, thanks for calling out the broad generalizations made about people living with mental illness. I don't think it's an assessment to be made lightly or flippantly.
Because now I'm curious about your feelings on pits too.
See the feet! (http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4223) thread for the original poll.
Let's talk about pits, baby.

ok since I (i myself.i know way TMI) have very little hair on my body due to my race and or culture..it would be hard for me to state or demand a preference if my partner is comfortable with how they feel about themselves..i have been with women who have plenty of body hair shaved or unshaved.. i'm cool with it

When I was 15-18, I never shaved my pits. I had dreadlocks, made all my own clothes, bathed in patchouli, and did hippie things. It fit me during that time, but now NO WAY, haha. Most people can't believe I have such a granola past. I am still a hippie at heart though... with a Gucci bag. LMAO!

In 7th grade, a girl sat behind me in my advisory class. She had extremely strong BO. She also wore deodorant - she even carried it with her in her bag to re-apply it several times a day. She looked mean. She had one of those faces I think that looks frowny when at rest. Her earlobes both were torn where earrings used to be. She was one of the nicest people in school - a very gentle, sweet person. I sat next to her all year and I've never forgotten her. I moved away that summer, so I never saw her again. I don't know why she had such strong BO, but it wasn't because she didn't wear deodorant and it wasn't because she didn't take showers and it wasn't because her clothes weren't washed. I think some people are just more endowed with scent glands than others or something.
I grew up in Austin, so a relative amount of hippie odor is just air to me. I'd love to smell the austin air again.
I definitely find pit hair hot, but not my own. It's not dense enough. Dense pit hair is hot. Body hair is hot to me. There ya go.

I'm one of those people that just doesn't have a lot of body hair per se, or it's so light you don't notice it. I don't think I've shaved since ... well I don't really remember when. I've never had a problem with a woman that had a lot of hair either. In Europe a lot of women don't shave and sport some pretty impressive lip hair depending how far east you go. I'm more likely to be offended if a woman colours her hair than I am if she let it grow/cut it. My wife is of Spanish descent, so ... she's got more hair and it's darker than mine. She prefers to shave, and I don't care either way. She did have an issue when we first got together about not using deodorant, I can understand because I have allergies to fragrances and if I don't get hypoallergenic deodorant I can really suffer, but we worked through that, she never knew that it was available.
One thing about body odour that people should consider. Sometimes the meds you take can make you smell funky. I know that one of my meds now leaves a horrible acidy-metal smell that works its way out my pores. Nobody else seems to notice it, and I've asked, because it's so obnoxious to me. I can smell it on my clothes. Thankfully, nobody else does. But I did take one med that did evaporate off me and people DID notice, and I got that changed.

I really don't care, as long as they don't stink!

Now, while I like me a hairy armpit - and I confess, even a little funky too - it's not a dealbreaker or a dealmaker.
