I had some NASTY Thai one time when I was on the way Ithaca for a day trip (when I used to live in upstate NY many moons ago)
Thankfully, I had had GOOD Thai already, otherwise that stuff would have sworn me off it.
Makes me wonder if my first experience with Vietnamese food was a bad fluke....it wasn't BAD persay...it was just really SALTY tasting...and this from a girl who loves her salt!

I had creme brulee at a restaurant which was severely burned on top. It tasted like charcoal. I couldn't bring myself to even swallow it and spit it out into my napkin. I only recently had the courage to try it again.

And I hate okra.

Headcheese. It's not a cheese, it's parts of a pigs head, minus the brains and the eyes. Then it's cooked and pressed into a spicey jelled stock. It's not for every one. It wasn't for me. I only agreed to try it because I ended up loving Braunschweiger, and it's ingredients didn't sound very appetizing either.

My ex had spent 12 years in the Philippines as a missionary and dared me to try balut. There was an Asian grocery around the corner of the pub. I was almost drunk and did it.

The memories. They haunt me. I didn't finish it, either (she finished it with no qualms.)

*shudder*

1. Beets
2. Brussle sprouts
3. The Lima bean
4. Tofu
5. That soup at Chinese eating places with Tofu and whatever else is in it

It's so funny bc my wife loves all of those and is a vegetarian
Me : well its hunting season and I'm not a vegetarian and she detests me eating/hunting
But she will cook meat for me bc that's love and we make zero Sence and I reckon if I have to spend hours at shopping and buying her the stores I reckon she feels the same about cooking me meat in the kitchen for an hour or what not .

I can't think of any other food oh yeah honeydew , canelope and soy milk can be added tobmake me turn away from it

Other than that I'm a growing boy and will eat ya out of house and home :)

My family just LOVES the foods that, I think, most people would find gross. LOL The ickiest thing I ever tasted was when my mother tricked me into trying tripe. BLAH!! My grandmother was also a good one for putting food in front of you and not telling you what it was! Never trust someone who says "Just taste it, you'll like it" when you ask what it is!

Chocolate covered ants, my cousin who made me eat them got a whipping.

Yes, I was Grandma's little angel.... :jester:

TRIPE??? omg, I can't stand it, no matter HOW it's cooked or flavored.

Not sure if it is the ickiest, but for sure the most tastless and boring, canned string beans.

I had some whole belly clams the other day that made me remember why I used to call them dirty belly clams as a kid....

My dad used to make steamers all the time when I was a kid, but he would feed them for 3 days prior to clean out all the crap...literal and figurative...

Haggis and Durian. Not at the same time. Friend of mine says "But durian is so good! You just have to plug your nose!" I'm all, "If I have to plug my nose then it's not good!"

And people wonder why I'm very reluctant to try new foods.

I've had some terrible food in my lifetime, but right off the top of my head, what's coming to mind is a moment back when I was in college and stopped into a cafe owned and operated by my college and decided to try an espresso.

I've heard of people asking what the worst that can happen upon trying a new food/drink/whatever is, and my answer to them is "The desire to rip out your own tongue to make the suffering stop."

Also, Denny's.

Pickled Raw Herring (I was forced to eat this in Jr. High School Social Science Class).

I'm also not fond of:

Brussel Sprouts
Lima Beans
Tripe (ala Menudo)

In a whole other category of grossness (which I have never eaten):

In Chinese culture - Monkey brains (sometimes eaten raw out of the skull).

I think I feel a little woozy.

Bon Appetit

Hi,

I already know that I will catch flack for this but the worse thing I every ate was sushi. It tasted and felt like bait. Not for me at all but good for fishing haha!

Escargot with garlic butter. Now I'm willing to try all kinds of foods, but I couldn't get past the fact that the rubbery-buttery texture in my mouth was that of cute little snails. Couldn't even swallow, I wound up dry heaving it out.

No flack. Everyone has different tastes. It sounds like you might have had sashimi or something that's raw. I'm not a huge fan of that kind either. I like the cooked :sushi:.

Thank you, Gemme. All I know is that it was authentic Korean sushi type food but to me it was a raw shrimp.

Thanks, Chad

You know how Whole Foods puts out samples? Well, one time they put out a delicious looking sample that I mistook for cheese spread. So I tried some on a cracker and thought I was going to die. There was a taste explosion of metallic blood and meat on my tongue, and I was trying desperately not to vomit in the middle of the store. That was the first time I tried paté.

Deep fried mushy peas.

I'm a really adventurous eater and tried and loved a lot of things many people wouldn't try.
But deep fried mushy peas made me spit it out on the pavement after a date bought it for me to try at a chippy and I'm really not that ungracious of a guest. It was the vilest thing I've ever had in my mouth. Including the weird crap at the dentists.

I don't know if it's necessarily the ickiest, but I definitely will never eat it again

when I was 16 my friend April and I volunteered for a booth for the annual Fiesta in San Antonio. (Belgian waffels!) when we had our break, she force dragged me through the crowds to a food booth and made me eat this weird meatball shaped item.

Cow testicles my friends, also known as mountain oysters, are not to be eaten without some sort of beverage. super salty to say the least.

I was 16, and all anyone was selling was beer. Now, isn't that just the way.

a close second is probably Vietnamese food (I always wonder what kind of meat it is), mussels and veal.

I looovvves okra tho. nom nom nom!

I too, had the trick of Rocky Mountain oysters. Some uncles thought they would be funny. But I sorta liked them!

Ok, even though I'm in the huge state of chicken fried steak, I just can't figure out that flour mushy gravy!

Or...that mushy dumplin with the other chicken!

Or...that melted velveeta cheese, disguised as queso!

Heard about this on CBC News yesterday so please don't shoot the messenger.

"An Icelandic micro-brewery has announced its new beer will be flavoured with smoked whales' testicles...

The Stedji brewery's Hvalur 2 beer is being sold for a limited period to mark the Icelandic midwinter month of Thorri, the Visir website reports. The testicles of fin whales - which are an endangered species - are cured "according to an old, Icelandic tradition" before being salted and smoked, with one being used per brewing. "We want to create a true Thorri atmosphere, and therefore we decided to use smoked testicles from fin whales for flavouring the beer," says Dagbjartur Ariliusson, a co-owner of the brewery. "We put a lot of effort into this and it's a long process."

Sheep shit is used as fuel for the smoker.

I can't imagine ever getting that thirsty.

How can they legally hunt an endangered species? Do they catch, castrate and release?

Malt-O-Meal. Even the smell of it sends me into dry heaves.

I grew up on liver and onions, okra, pickled eggs. Love them. Funny how we all have such different ideas of yuck.

Seems it's not illegal in Iceland. Being "traditional" can cover a lot of sins.
