Oh yes! I remember Klackers. One New Years Eve I camped out overnight on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena, CA. waiting for the Rose Parade. I played with my new set of Klackers all night long. By the time the parade started in the morning my arm was bruised between my wrist and elbow. I was a teenager of course. Great memories. Thanks.

Holy hell this has taken me down memory lane!! So many fond memories... It's ashame most kids of today are clueless as to the hands on kind of fun kids had back in the day. I use to also love playing yard games... freeze tag, kick the can, hide and seek, etc.
Thanks for all the good feelings ya'll! How about those Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, Don't Spill the Beans and Kerplunk!!
OMG and jump rope, double dutch, hopscotch, jack, marbles, four square....
Here's the kid in me shining big right now LOL
P.S. I had heard the klackers were discontinued because they shattered and the glass got in someone's eye. I sucked at them but my sister could go to town on those things :)

One year my Dad made me one out of hay bails. It was probably 5' tall (though it felt like 8' at that age) and had a hall entrance and he even put a few inside as seats and a bed. I spent a fun summer in it.
My Mom would make blanket forts all the time and we would play and giggle in them for hours.

OMG, I have not thought of Helms Bakery Trucks in many many years. I could get a glazed donut for 5 cents. I think I was in the first grade when our class got to go on a field trip to the Helms Bakery factory. I thought I was in heaven. All those delicious smells.
At the end of the tour before we went home, they gave each of us a miniture loaf of bread, a chocolate donut and a cardboard miniture mode of a Helms Bakery Truck. The model was my prize for quite a few years.
Thanks for the thread Dee. Many great memories.

Do you remember wooden clothes pins??? I never used a dryer until I was about 36 years old. My Mom never owned one in her life time so I grew up learning to love the fresh smell of wind blown clothes. So I would rent homes when I moved out so I could have a clothes line out back. Now thinking back they smelt great, but they sure were crispy hard feeling trying to put on jeans lol. And if it rained, you were shyt out of luck and had to run and grab as many clothes as you could. Ahhh them where the days...

BB gun target (above). Just one example of the mostly unsupervised "activities" (archery range, and boating on a RIVER, etc.) that were allowed at the summer day camp I attended in the 60s. Somehow I emerged without shooting an eye out -- good times!

Every picture of me until I was about 6 or 7 was in pants like this. Usually with a red or navy blue turtleneck. They were all my brothers. Oh, except for when I had to wear a dress on Sunday for church. That was the only thing my parents bought me my own clothes for.

Ditto jeans?

Having the perm look of Stevie Nicks?
