Syr sent me this video (thank you!)... i loved the project that Ms. Chang did. Being from my beloved, sad home town of New Orleans it hit home twice as much. Please take about 3 minutes to listen.


In her New Orleans neighborhood, artist and TED Fellow Candy Chang turned an abandoned house into a giant chalkboard asking a fill-in-the-blank question: “Before I die I want to ___.” Her neighbors' answers -- surprising, poignant, funny -- became an unexpected mirror for the community. So many answers were posted to her questions... i couldn't come up with just one thing to fill in the blank for myself, so as an ongoing thread maybe we can share our *Before I die I want to _________* answers. - Know my youngest siblings and nephew have found love and happiness.

Before I die, I want to KNOW that I have mattered in this life. I "kinda know" it, but that always seems to be a long way from that in-the-heart-and-gut-KNOWING it. When I was 13 my mom died, and the number of cars in her funeral procession just blew me away. Somehow this woman who was just my mom MATTERED to a great deal of people.

Before I die I want to travel more. I want to take Denise up to Omaha and show her where I grew up, the streets I played in, the schools I attended, the stores I shopped in and the restaurants I ate in. I want to visit my mom & dad's grave again. And then I want to go see places around this country and this world that we haven't seen before, to experience them together.

Reading all the posts, up to this one, made me think a lot.
Made me think, what do I want for me before I die since I always seem to put others first.

So, before I die, I'd like to fall in love again because loving someone just isn't enough
I'd like a home I never have to move from again because I like it enough to stay
I'd like a job I enjoy going to instead of going because I have to
I'd like to go fishing anywhere and everywhere when I can
I'd like to publish my poetry for others to read for years to come
I'd like to advocate for abused and neglected animals
I'd like property to build a cat habitat/sanctuary for all the throw aways to live without being chased away by humans


Although I know in my heart, I will always want more for others rather than myself, this is what I came up with off the top of my head.

i could have written this list, only replaced poetry (i am no writer like you are!) with photography. i want to share how i see things with the world, and before i die would love to see people enjoy my photos and see what i see.


In reading these lists, most of them are about *us*. What we want, what we need.. but life isn't always about us. Like before i die i would like to see m y mother happy. She is not a happy person, before i die i want to see her enjoy her life, just once.


The question isn't really what we would like to *do* although that certainly comes to mind... but what we want before we die, whatever that may be.

i have let this all go for now
i have a chance to sit down with my birth grandmother and get my medical back ground on my BM side.
sounds like a great thing right?
i don't want to meet her, not sure why but i don't

Have a couple of instruments made to my specifications.

Most likely concert size [or possibly tenor but I've not had a chance to sit and get used to a tenor], flamed koa top, back and sides.
Koa neck and radiused fret board with grey cat's paws position markers [front and top side] at the 3rd, 5th, 7th & 10th frets with a pair of cat's eyes at the 12th fret.
Ebony bridge, bone nut and saddles [2 saddles one for high G re-entrant and one for low G linear tuning]
Complimentary colour/tone binding and luthier chosen rosette.
A grey cat's arse & tail as a tail-piece/butt end inlay and a grey paw [or grey cat's head] headstock inlay.

It will be the Her Royal Greyness the Woodipotimus Uke

Concert size [SIZE="1"][maybe tenor but unlikely], English walnut back and sides, sinker redwood top. Luthier recommended neck w/ebony, radiused fretboard & bone nut. Ebony bridge w/bone saddle.
The decorative theme will be amphibious, frogs to be exact [just look at my visitor page and you'll see why frogs are the theme] I don't have an exact vision of the inlays for this piece yet, I'm sure whichever luthier I choose [and can get on the waiting list for] will have amazing ideas to bounce off and around.

This one will be The Sober Frog LWF Uke [much better and way more fun than the large frog tattoo I originally wanted]
