on Thursdays I have a half day of silence-from 6AM to 12noon. there are several reasons for this. one is to give my mouth a break from the chit-chat of the monkey mind and give my spirit a rest from the same. Another reason is to reflect on the impact that my words have on others. words can in many instances wound worse than blows. i know-i've been there. blows will heal and are transitory. words stick in your heart like sharp barbs and continue to hurt long after being said. so Thursday mornings are my affirmation to the power of silence.

I met a lady at Mass who lost her way in life. She is begging God to take her home. She is young, but has had a hard life. Her parents put her up for adoption when she was a newborn. She traveled thru a ton of foster homes, and was abused by some of the men there. After leaving the system, she worked for a large corporation that is now bankrupt. She worked her entire life there. She knows no other life. Her co-workers were her family. She married, but her husband dropped dead on the golf course when he was about 30 something.

So, she has no children. No family to speak of. No employment benefits. No unemployment benefits - they have run out. She has sold most of her belongings online and at flea markets.

She is living with uncontrollable Chrones Disease. She can't tell anyone the last time she showered, washed her hair, shaved her legs, or even go to the bathroom in peace. She hasn't been to the doctor since loosing her benefits. She hasn't taken medicine in years for her Chrones Disease.

So, my affirmation for today is the many blessings I have. I see what can happen to anyone of us at any time. I want everyone of us to have healthcare benefits. To live in the United States is such a wonderful gift. We just need to iron out the differences, and get the ball rolling. We need to fix our healthcare system once and for all. We are all so blessed to wake up alive, and with air in our lungs.

Thought of the day...a lesson I learned this week....Confidence can be a great thing...Over confidence can lead to downfall...be sure you know which you're exhibiting.

To laugh at somebody else's shortcomings is one of the lowest things you can do. If you must laugh, laugh at your own weaknesses; laugh at your own stupidities. This is far better than laughing at someone else. By being able to laugh at your own faults, at least you become aware of your own lower or false nature. If you can laugh at your own lower nature, this means you are evolving, and this is consoling. You will be fit for immortality, or at least, you are getting closer to it. When you laugh at yourself, this means that you are slowly becoming aware of your own ignorance. This is a good sign. Once you realize that you are ignorant, then it is easy for the Guru to work on you. Many disciples or devotees simply say they are ignorant, but they really do not mean it. Deep down in their minds they think that they know many things. Actually they do not realize their own ignorance. A person who laughs as his own weaknesses and faults realizes and recognizes his own ignorance. He can easily evolve and rise to the Supreme State of Blissful Laughter. He can soon laugh, watching the whole universe as a play of God. Therefore, children, do not tease or make fun of others. it is very painful for Mother to see Her children behaving so cheaply.
