There will be events held all across the country on Saturday January 21 in addition to the Women's March on Washington D.C.

Here is a list if you would like to attend an event in your local area:

http://www.womensmarch.com/sisters/

I am planning to attend the rally in Albuquerque, NM with friends. I am fired up! I would love to hear if anyone is planning to attend one and what your experiences are after you attend if you would like to share.

Here is the mission statement for the one in Albuquerque:

Join us as we gather on January 21 at Civic Plaza for the Women's March on Washington in Albuquerque Rally. This is an inclusive event, open to ANYONE who supports women's rights. Mission Statement: The rally is to show solidarity across the nation and at home for the DC March, which highlights that women's rights are human rights. The mission of the rally is foremost to join the many unique cultural groups across New Mexico in an inclusive dialogue and to become more educated about how we can take positive and peaceful action to exercise our constitutional rights. It's an act to uplift our spirits, to broaden awareness, and proclaim "we will protect each other's civil rights, our communities, our families and our planet."

This is awesome idea! I am going to check and see if they have a rally where I live too. I would love to attend the Wash D.C event but it's probably going to be very expensive :(

I will be in D.C. on the 21st. I booked a room a few miles away because when I first looked in October, all rooms in D.C. were in the high hundreds and thousands. I was lucky to find what I did. I am going down with a few friends the night before. There are a lot of commercial buses leaving from all areas of my state that morning, and seats are hard to come by. I am very excited about going.

I am currently trying to find someone who is selling vagina hats.

Wow, it's exciting to hear about everyone's plans. I hope everyone comes back and reports on their experiences along with any news leading up to the events.

Yeah, we need those pussy hats. I think I would look real good in one, ha ha.

I'll be reporting on my experience. The lineup of speakers looks really good, and I'm very interested in hearing about ideas for taking effective political action and learning more about what is going on around my state.

Thanks everyone, it feels good to know people will be attending all over the country. We need to stay strong and take effective political action!

I'm going down to DC for the big march! I could go with my Union. They've chartered two(!) busses and there's still a little room. I could go with friends from the Lesbian Sex Mafia. So many LSM Board members are going that we had to change our regular meeting date. I could go with the Sirens Women's Motorcycle Club. I would have a place to stay, too.

I'm not doing any of that. Instead I decided to drive myself down on Sunday morning in my car, park outside of town and take public transportation in to meet with the Sirens. I'm really skinny and not built for the cold. I'll wear every warm thing I own and probably still end up dangerously frozen at some point during the day. This plan will give me freedom to skedaddle home on my own when I become too cold for safety.

For those going to D.C. If you need to use the metro rail to get to the march, hurry up and order online. They said the lines at the machines will be really long. So if you want to order them ahead of time, which I just did, the website is stating that to get your card before the Inauguration on the 20th you need to place your order by Friday, the 13th.

..... there are Women's Marches happening in several major cities including one about an hour from where I live in rural Manitoba (info is on FB). Also, I hooked a Pussy Hat for a friend ..... it doesn't look exactly like a knitted one but it is recognizable. You can see it here http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/forum/album.php?albumid=135&pictureid=1238 and here http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/forum/album.php?albumid=135&pictureid=1237 !

It’s so much bigger than just the Women’s March on Washington.

by Catherine Pearson

Some 194,000 people have indicated on Facebook they plan to attend the Women’s March on Washington, scheduled for Saturday, the day after President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. And 1,200 tour buses have applied for permits to park at RFK stadium that day ― six times the number that have applied for spots on the day of Trump’s swearing in.

But march spokespeople say it would be a mistake to overlook the 370 smaller “sister marches” that have been planned in every state and on six continents that weekend ― and that are expected at last count to draw nearly 700,000 people.

“This is a global movement,” national sister march spokeswoman Yordanos Eyoel told The Huffington Post.

“This is something that was catalyzed by the organizers of the March on Washington, but it is a call to action to people across this country and around the world who believe in the same mission and principles,” she said.

The Women’s March website is maintaining a running list of the marches being planned, Eyoel said, and is the best resource for people to consult if they are looking for a march near them.

With less than a week to go, nearly 700,000 people have registered to attend via Facebook, Eventbrite and Action Network, she said.

While the marches have been inspired by the Women’s March on Washington, they are being organized by volunteers at the local level and each will have its own programming.

The march in Maui, Hawaii, for example, will begin with a moment of silence and a traditional Hawaiian blessing, a press release explains. The march in Birmingham, Alabama, will begin at the 16th Baptist Church, an icon of the civil rights era that was recently declared a national monument.

The biggest marches outside of Washington are planned in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Boston, Denver, San Francisco, Austin and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Internationally, 55 marches have been planned in cities such as Paris, Sydney and Nairobi.

The aim, Eyoel said, is not to detract from the March on Washington in any way, but to encourage people everywhere to join in what she took pains to describe as a “non-partisan,” not explicitly “anti-Trump” march.

“If you are not able to make it to D.C., I will say that you’re still creating the same kind of change, and you’re making sure your voice is heard,” said Eyoel. “It’s important to do that within the community where you live.”

Actually there is an event in Shreveport:

21 JAN 2017: Women's March - Shreveport/Bossier @ Caddo Parish Courthouse -

ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 21, 2017, THE SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN WILL GATHER PEACEFULLY IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE WOMEN’S MARCH IN WASHINGTON D.C.

The gathering will begin on the north sidewalk of the Caddo Parish Courthouse at 3:00 PM with a reading of the Official Statement of Purpose from the Women’s March in Washington D.C., and will end after participants march around the courthouse as a unified group.

The public is invited to attend this peaceful vigil. Signs are welcome, but sound amplification objects like megaphones and microphones are forbidden by law. This will be a family-friendly, community-inclusive gathering.

Bully, here are some signs I'm creating. I'm not marching, but I am helping to support a couple groups by making and paying for their signs, and donating some moola for lunch and gas.

Sign #1:
SCIENCE IS NOT
A LIBERAL
CONSPIRACY

Sign #2:
MAKE AMERICA
THINK
AGAIN

Sign #3:
WOMEN'S RIGHTS
=
HUMAN RIGHTS

Sign #4:
MAKE AMERICA
KIND
AGAIN

Think about having someone proofread your signs. I'm having mine proofread.

Good signs Orema!

Thanks for posting them. I particularly like #1.

I am also going to ask my 12- year-old granddaughter what signs she and her friends are making.

She is 12 going on 25 in terms of brain power, wit, feminist identification and insight.

Any good ones she comes up, I will post, too.

Bully, thank you for starting this thread.

Everyone that is going or participating in any way and posted about it here; inspired me to do something concrete.

It does feel better to make our voices heard.

Just curious...

Is Michael Moore always that pumped up? It felt like Ashley Judd jumped in for a reason.

I loved America Ferraro 's (sp?) speech. She has a great presence and energy. She should consider politics.

That's one thing that rang true from Moore's speech. We need more individuals in office that come from a non political background. We need to be the change we want to see in the world and in our country. I'm going to ponder on that.

We're back from the march/rally. We met at the Unitarian Society to watch the live streaming of the women's march in D.C. I cried a lot, I was having some kind of major catharsis. We didn't actually march because my sweetheart's back was bothering her, but we watched everyone march into the rally site and stayed for some of the rally. There a LOT of people and lots of great signs, it was really moving. But then I started getting anxiety in the crowd so we broke for lunch. I'm really glad I went though.

I had an awesome time at the rally in Albuquerque today! The energy of the crowd was so positive and determined. People of all genders, races and ages were there. Dogs too. One dog had a pussy hat, hah!

I didn't get to the sign making event, but someone at the rally gave me a sign - message on each side. One side: "He is the Swamp" and the other "We Will Not Be Silent."

One of my friends had "I Can't Believe I Still Have To Protest This Shit." Everyone wanted a pic of it. I loved the guy pushing a stroller with his "Feminist Dad" sign. Just a great crowd.

We had lots of great speakers, poetry and music.

One key thing that was said was that feminism that is not intersectional and inclusive is just white supremacy. I agree.

And also that women's rights are human rights and civil rights. It is about all of us working together. And about women not being defined by social norms or anyone else and that we all are valuable and can think for ourselves.

My friend and I decided we want to work on getting our Republican governor out when her term is up.

It was a very peaceful gathering and lots of positive energy and people determined to continue to fight for our rights. I'm so glad I went.

I'm back from Seneca Falls. We had about 30 of us from work meeting in the dark at 5 am to head out this morning. It was phenomenal. They were not expecting the crowd they got at all but it was managed quickly. I guess they were expecting 500 which blows my mind. Last press count was 10,000. We walked almost 2 miles to get to the rally site and then were on sidewalks because a street permit hadn't been attained? But either we just took the streets or we got a permit, I'm not sure sure, but we took over the whole village. The speakers were strong and empowering, the crowd was full of love and intention. I'm so glad I was able to be there.

Unfortunately, We didn't get to the March or any of the sister marches. Live in a small farming town that's very apolitical. No car and our transit only runs M-F. Bummer!!!

Glad to see all the photos and reports from those who went. We were there with you in spirit!!

Are the online petitions that anyone knows about that are for being in solidarity with the March???

I will actually be in Mexico that day but there will be a march we can go to in Piedras Negras!

On the way to finding that out, though, I also discovered there will be a march in MARFA, TX

Marfa is a whole day away from where we will be but could you imagine the Marfa march????

Sadly we were unable to get to Piedras Negras, so we made a fat donation to the march organizers help with the costs

I couldn't see any of the photos until we got back on this side of the border, but then i got to see them all at once and i cried over every one, but so different from all of Friday's crying

I heard that there were nearly 500 marches across 7 continents in solidarity with the Women's March on Washington yesterday. (I haven't verified this yet, so please don't send me to the gallows.)

But just think of all of that positive energy rocking this earthly planet of ours as woman, joined by people of all genders from all around the world participated in whatever capacity they were able. Regardless of the exact number of marches, it was amazing!

It was, and will continue to be powerful!

At 2.5 million strong, Women's Marches crush expectations

Heidi M. Przybyla and Fredreka Schouten, USA TODAY Published 5:04 a.m. ET

Jan. 21, 2017 | Updated 11 hours ago

Early projections show that over 2.5 million people participated in the Women's Marches around the globe

WASHINGTON — More than 2 million people across the world, led by hundreds of thousands who overwhelmed the nation's capital, protested the first full day of President Trump's tenure Saturday.

What began as a Facebook post by a Hawaii grandmother the day after Hillary Clinton's loss in November's election blossomed into a massive protest uniting people of all ages, races and religions who crowded downtown Washington. They called for a "revolution" as a bulwark against the new administration and the Republican-led Congress they fear will roll back reproductive, civil and human rights.

A five-hour rally featured speakers ranging from Ilyasah Shabazz, a daughter of Malcom X, to Sister Simone Campbell, a Catholic nun, and the music superstar Madonna. People arrived in buses or flew across country from locales as far as California to bring the main arteries of downtown Washington to a near standstill. While the event's organizers sought to highlight many concerns, including climate change and criminal justice reform, the speakers were united in imploring the crowd to begin taking action by donating to progressive causes and even running for public office once they return home.

"Once it happens in a generation that a spirit of resistance is awakened," said Rabbi Sharon Brous. "This is one of those moments. Our children will one day ask us ‘where were you when our country was thrust into a lion’s den of demagoguery and division,'" she said.

America Ferrerra, speaking at the Women's March on Washington, lists reasons for the protest are for the "moral core of this nation." USA TODAY NETWORK

"The revolution starts here," said Madonna. "It is the beginning of much-needed change," but, "change that will require sacrifice, people, change that will require many of us to make different choices in our lives. But this is the hallmark of revolution. So my question to you today is, are you ready?" said Madonna, before entertaining the crowd with her 1988 hit song "Express Yourself."

According to a sister march webpage, an estimated 2.6 million people took part in 673 marches in all 50 states and 32 countries, from Belarus to New Zealand — with the largest taking place in Washington.

The crowds were so large in some cities that marching was almost impossible. In Chicago, organizers halted the march and rallied at Grant Park instead as crowds swelled to 150,000, although thousands still marched.

* In New York City, the number was 400,000, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio;
* In Boston, media reported more than 100,000 people marching in Boston Common.
* In Oakland, Calif., police estimated that about 60,000 people took part in the women's march.
* Local media reports said that San Francisco’s rally later in the day may have attracted as many as 100,000.

It was the first time Kristen Phillip of San Mateo, Calif. had attended a march. "I'm 44 and I've never done anything like this but I feel compelled to be here," she said. She brought her 24-year old daughter Claire who said the San Francisco rally made her feel "powerful and hopeful." "It makes me feel that we can get through this, if we love each other and don't let them divide us," she said.

More than 2 million people across the world, led by hundreds of thousands who overwhelmed the nation's capital, protested the first full day of President Trump's tenure Saturday.

>>>>> Peter Monks of San Francisco, who attended with his wife and daughters, said he was showing support for women's issues "to a president who doesn't seem to recognize or care about them."

>>>>>"As a white guy, it's easy to take privilege for granted," Monks said. "It feels really important to stand up for civil society when powerful voices are lined up against it."

In D.C., the huge crowds come a day after empty space was spotted on the National Mall ahead of Trump's inauguration speech and bare bleachers were noticeable along the inaugural parade route.

"When you go back home, remember how you felt, that instant, that gut, that said 'I gotta get on a bus, a train a plane," said Tamika Mallory, a civil rights activist and march co-chair. "Be bold in the way you were bold to come here in such large numbers," Mallory. said

"It’s about you going home after today and standing up and fighting in our communities," said Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill. "Take it home."

"This is an outpouring of energy and true democracy like I have never seen in my very long life," said feminist icon Gloria Steinem.

>>>>> On Saturday morning, a DC official said, according to organizers, the turnout estimate had grown to 500,000 — more than double the 200,000 people that organizers initially expected to attend. Given the turnout, the march will probably take its place among historic demonstrations — including the 1963 civil rights demonstrations and the Vietnam War protests of 1967.

Attendees weren't organized by a single group. They came on their own, many aboard overnight charter buses, for what Crystal Hoyt, an associate dean at the University of Richmond, called "one of the largest and most significant demonstrations for social justice in America’s 240-year history."

>>>€Hillary Clinton, whose loss to Trump helped inspire the march, weighed in via Twitter before the event. "Thanks for standing, speaking and marching our values," she wrote. Thanks for standing, speaking & marching for our values @womensmarch. Important as ever. I truly believe we're always Stronger Together.

— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) January 21, 2017

The Washington subway system was jammed Saturday morning with women wearing pink-themed clothing and trading stories about overnight bus rides. Overflowing Metro passenger trains passed platforms crowded with more people who were unable to board. The crowds of women and men of all ages stand in contrast to the protesters around the inaugural, who were mostly young people.

The women had diverse concerns about Trump.

>>>>>"There’s a lot of people who care about the lies he’s told,” said Laurie Gentry, a 60-year-old who took an overnight bus from Greenville, S.C. She cited climate change, education and marriage equality.

>>>> ."This election was the first time I really felt like something in me was awakened and stirred," said Robin Weiss, a 45-year-old mother of nine accompanied by her 16-year-old daughter. "This was the first time it really felt like I had nothing," she said. "I'm showing my daughter I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is," said Weiss.

>>>> "I‘m aghast, and it obviously prompted me to get myself up and get to Washington. I’m not just doing it for myself but I’m doing it for my daughters and granddaughters," said Wendy Hames, a 67-year-old retired school teacher who took a sleeping pill to weather the overnight haul.

The marches' many partners represent a range of causes, including the environment and criminal justice among them. Organizers represent all 50 states, and groups including the ACLU, Amnesty International, EMILY’s List, Muslim Women’s Alliance, Planned Parenthood, and United We Dream.

Aside from the new president's ability to appoint Supreme Court justices who could seek to overturn the decision in 1973 that established a woman’s right to abortion, Roe v Wade, marchers see other things that could happen more immediately:

This includes Congress rolling back funding for Planned Parenthood, which provides free breast cancer screening and health services. U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan has vowed to cut the group's funding as part of repealing Obamacare.

The same could well happen with contraception coverage provided under the Affordable Care Act, as well as access to mammograms with no co-pay or deductible. Since more women receive Medicare than men, changes to the program would disproportionately hurt them.

>>>>> As Donald Trump was taking the oath of office, planes across the country were headed to D.C. A lot of them were filled with “nasty women”. Susana Victoria Perez (@susana_vp) has more. Buzz60

"We’re here today to thank generations of organizers and trouble makers and hell raisers who formed secret sisterhoods and demanded the right to control their own bodies," said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood. "We’re not going to take this lying down," she said.

>>>>> A day after the march, a number of groups, including Planned Parenthood and EMILY’s List, are holding workshops designed to enlist women for more civic participation back home, including running for office.

"If you don’t speak, ain’t nobody gonna speak on behalf of you," said Carmen Perez, an event co-chair. "There’s an entry point for all of us to get involved in this movement," she said.

>>>>>>"We will not adjust to hatred and bigotry. We will resist Islamophobia, >>>>>>>xenophobia, white supremacy, sexism, racism, misogyny.”

The total number changed almost hourly as they tried to get their arms around exactly how many people participated!

How about massive numbers?! I also like the 2.5 million people participated figures!

It sparks hope within me and I needed it badly.

Bully, thanks for starting this thread. It was a great inspiration for us to gather energy again. The women's movement was not dead. Perhaps just sleeping but I think the sleeping giant has been awakened;

And she is pissed!

Yesterday, after marching in Washington, I started to feel something I haven't felt since the election. It was hope. I am now hopeful that we can do something and I will continue to BE a part of the solution, instead of on the sidelines talking about it. I am truly humbled by the experience.

And one more thing about #notmypresident. While many poo poo those of us who detest and abhor the idea of Trump as the POTUS and brand us as "sore losers" and "whiners", take a long hard look at all of the protest marches that took place outside of the United States. There must be something to it if others, who are looking in from the outside, see the same things we do and fear the same things we do. Look at who is the common denominator.

Ben and I went to the protest in Orlando. It was awesome and beautiful and fun. It was held in Lake Eola Park which is where one of the largest pride activities in the country, "Come out with Pride" is held every October. I have been trying unsuccessfully to find crowd estimates. There were thousands of people there, but I have no real idea exactly how many. The signs were funny and meaningful. My favorite was proudly displayed by a little girl of approximately two years old. It read "Girls are strong." The crowd was considerate, and friendly and intent. The speakers were great. I have no names for the speakers, but I was especially moved by one speaker who said. "If they require the registration of Muslims, we will ALL register." I immediately pictured myself in a head scarf, and I know this is something I am willing to do, and will do if it becomes necessary.

I spent most of last night watching tape of the Washington event on freespeech TV. It evoked so many different feelings in me. Two great old loves of my life were there; Gloria Steinem and Angela Davis. Two women who have spent their entire lives engaged in political action . . . still alive, still healthy, still with us, still fighting. Made me proud.

I have been pretty much in a state of shock and despair since election night. These events gave me a small sliver of hope.

I hope we will continue to work, together and separately to free ourselves completely of this dangerous man who has become president, or at least to work to deny him and fellow republicans their regressive and dark agenda.

Power to the people!!!

Smooches,
Keri

Holy crap on a crazy cracker! Our little Funkytown march that was only organized five days before the march, and had 300+ 'Going' on the Facebook page turned into an estimated 5-9000 marchers on Saturday! It was insane in the best possible way. I was so overwhelmed at one point that I began to cry! LoL I got it together quickly. What an amazing day not only for us in Fort Worth but everywhere. I didn't know how I would get through Friday, it was so depressing even keeping away from all news sources. And then Saturday happened. I am grateful.

Always late....

I was in Portsmouth NH. The "official" count was 6,000 while we had a second rally in Concord.

I had to park two miles away and couldn't get up near the podium but we had great speakers. The biggest message here was "the few won't control the many".

I am extremely shy and didn't talk to too many people but the few that I did talk to were very nice.

Sorry I'm posting late Bully.

I don't think someone punching a Nazi man for protesting, even spewing hate speech, is funny at all. If someone walked up and punched a Separatist woman in the face for holding up a sign raging and rallying against men, advocating/calling for the death of them all, would that be funny?

I've marched on Washington many times, but I never felt what I felt on Saturday. It was glorious. I resonate with the above posts about finally feeling hope again for the first time since the election. There were so many young women at the March. I got chills, and not because I was cold. It was actually warm enough for me to be outside for the whole day. Whew!

Besides my motorcycle club colors, I wore a rainbow feather boa, and I gave out rainbow leis to my Siren sisters, all also wearing our bad-ass motorcycle club patch. We weren't wearing pussy hats, but we did look fabulously gay. One of our signs said, 'Bykers Against Trump'. Several marchers told us how happy they were to see us because news media had been featuring a group which called itself Bikers For Trump, which had been pugnaciously declaring their intent to protect that idjit from whoever it is they think might threaten him. I was proud to be marching with a racially diverse group of women, and relieved that the leadership and message of the DC March was inclusive enough to draw a very diverse crowd.

The gorgeous variety and creativity of the sea of pussy hats in DC was impressive, but the most remarkable pussy hat moment was when I came upon a street vendor who was actually selling pink polar fleece knock-offs. I nearly hurt myself laughing to see that giant dude calling out to the assembled marchers, "PUSSY hats. Get your PUSSY HATS here".

I've been inspired to see the photos of worldwide marches and demonstrations. I loved the photo of the women in Antarctica, but one of my absolute favorites was of an elderly Japanese woman in a wheelchair whose sign said she had been interred for her race, and that we would never go back. Can someone with more advanced skills share that here if you come across it? Please and thank you.

Many many on-point and original signs from the marches, but I do believe this is my favorite. This is a two-fer, also nails the necrophiles from the NRA.

I won't be maligning another woman again ( if you see it that way ) but I did find this ironically funny. in another form it was a March poster. No reason to think she isn't as victimised as other women ... so no more from me on this.

Maybe it's wishful thinking but I think she and Donald may split up. Did you see how he treated her when they were entering the White House for tea with the Obamas? He left her and was walking in the door by himself until he realized he had left her behind. The Obamas had already taken her by each arm to gently escort her in...I mean, how gauche can he possibly be? I kind of feel for her.

I noticed that also. I think he may love her in his own way, but Donald loves Donald (and work) first. Maybe, sadly, she's used to it or accepted it for the obvious perks of marrying him. In my opinion, she's no trophy but a highly intelligent woman with a naturally reserved manner. Despite having lived here for several years, she seems much more "European reserved" than American.

Anything we come up with is simply a guess.

She may be a trophy, may not.

Regardless, I feel sorry for her.

Since I never know what goes on behind anyone's closed door; I will only post this:

"Trump says cheating on Ivana with Marla was 'beautiful' in 1994

BY CAMERON JOSEPH
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Saturday, October 8, 2016, 1:00 PM

WASHINGTON — If Donald Trump hadn't been caught red-handed he likely would have kept on cheating on his first wife, he admitted in a 1994 interview obtained by the Daily News."

Very good point.

Perhaps we have just been projecting feelings/motives/perspectives that are our own.

She is hardly an innocent victim that did not know what she was getting into as wife number 3.

Thanks for telling us about it.

Whew!

I don't have the skills to share a photo, but my sign said:

I've never felt sorry for her. She made her bed and now she has to lie in it. Of course, her bed is likely gold-plated and cost more than my car did. As mentioned, she's not his first wife. It's no surprise what was to be expected of her; to sit still, be quiet unless specifically directed otherwise and to be pretty.

Highly intelligent, a recluse and happily married to some who continually cheats? The only way that would work is if she felt nothing for him at all and if it has become a marriage of convenience-vs-She apparently has said her father is like him so it's also possible she married the person closest to a replica of her father who she must worship?? In either case the weirdness is too much for my brain.

In the spirit of women and their allies coming together for love and liberation, we offer A Day Without A Woman. via @womensmarch on Twitter

I will be putting in for that day off, tomorrow. I'm wondering if there will be marches (this date was just announced today as I understand it) but if not, I'll be occupying the woods somewhere =)

I don't think I know what that is. I Googled it but couldn't find anything. I did find this though for the Day Without A Woman strike: http://www.refinery29.com/2017/02/140926/a-day-without-a-woman-information and, while there isn't a lot of information around it yet as they just announced the date today, (I follow the Women's March on Twitter and Facebook though) which is also International Women's Day, I'm anxious to learn the details of any positive actions recommended and/or marches. etc. I love how this is a perceived long term protest. Four freaking year long protest lol I'm all in though. For the long haul.

Oh, "Alice Doesn't" boycott was about women NOT doing all the things they would normally do in a day....like at work they should boycott making the coffee, fetching coffee for the boss, tidying up, etc etc. A home they boycotted doing laundry, dishes, vacuuming, all stuff deemed "woman's work".

The point was to show how much work women did and just how much would go undone if not for women.

Anyone, if I'm mistaken please fell free to correct me:hangloose:

Not exactly correct. It was more than a boycott.

I marched in LA that day and this is a description from Civil Rights .edu:

"The NOW spokesperson describes a national labor strike scheduled for October 29, 1975, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in protest of women's marginalization and continued discrimination. The women involved in the strike seek to force business men, husbands, and other men to take seriously their demands for equal rights. As a testament of these women's refusal to continue to ignore sexism in American society, they adorn their shirts with buttons marked “Alice Doesn’t...Anywhere, Anymore!”

We marched from Westwood to UCLA.

I tried to post this picture showing the crowd at UCLA listening to speakers after the march but could not:

http://lit250v.library.ucla.edu/islandora/object/edu.ucla.library.specialCollections.latimes%3A190

The sadness is that we have come far since 1975 but still have so far to go.

Ashley Bennet was aghast after New Jersey politician John Carman posted a meme during the Women’s March this January, asking if the protest would be “over in time for them to cook dinner;” however, she put her anger to good use, running against Carman and defeating him to win his seat as an Atlantic County freeholder.

I guess he's got plenty of time to cook his own dinner now!

I was honored to be one of the head organizers for our first Women's March in my city. It went SO well. It was only 10 degrees out and we had a storm blowing in 2 hours after the march speakers started but we still had a phenomenal turnout. The speakers were powerful- speaking on Climate change, Reproductive Justice, Immigration, and local history of issues that impact women in history. At one point I was running alongside the march on the sidewalk to try to see how far we were stretched out but I couldn't see the end. I almost cried when I saw that. It was such a powerful feeling seeing everyone coming together and knowing I was able to be part of making that happen. We ended the march where I work and for the first time ever in herstory, every room we have was at capacity. Everyone was kind and helpful and energized and positive. We had asked people to march with integrity and positivity and, for the most part, people did. Huge success and we are def on to do this again next year!
