![]() Recently, I was invited to join (and accepted), as a core member, a new group called The Suicide Prevention Coalition of North Central Washington. The timing on the release of this movie couldn't be better and it makes me feel hopeful that we, as a community, can make an impact.
One of the leading causes of suicide among adolescents is bullying. It is happening in our community and the suicides are happening at alarming rates. The last one which occurred roughly a month ago was that of young, gay teenager. The new movie, Bully, is winning accolades around the country and is a must see for everyone, young, old, parents, teachers, advocates...everyone. I have seen snippets and have been following the news on this movie and it's amazing how uncooperative both individuals and organizations are when the subject of bullying is presented to them. I am providing the link to the website and hope that all of you will see the movie. If it's not coming to your town there is a button on the left hand side of the website labeled "DEMAND IT". Click this button and do a search for your city. If you are a person in a position to advocate or educate please download the toolkit as it has good information. There are also links for students and parents. Please, let's all work for ending bullying. Let's work on letting young folks know that there are resources available to them; that suicide is not an option and that they are loved and wanted in this world. Many thanks!! Scoobs |
