I Write Like
I thought this was cute. A website analyzes which famous author your writing resembles
http://iwl.me/ Put in some of your own writing, anything will do. Apparently I write like Charles Dickens

First Rule
I like this, find it interesting. My first sample was the style of Cory Doctorow. No clue so I looked him up. Still no idea but I'll contact him, send him the link and see if Hagster McHags comes up for him.
Second sample was the style of Chuck Palahniuk. No clue so I looked him up. He wrote Fight Club. ...I can no longer talk about this. |

I tried three samplings.
The first was my typical posting style and H.P. Lovecraft came up for that. Here's some interesting tidbits. He was born in Rhode Island, a state that I certainly reside in. No biggie. It's the smallest state but thousands of people live here, so that's not creepy. One of his parents had mental health issues. Again, a LOT of people have a parent with mental health issues. He did it all in terms of writing....editing, writing prose, novels, short stories. With the exception of a novel, I've done the same. He married an older woman. I prefer older partners. Died young though. 46. I definitely do not want to have any connection with that. He never really achieved success until he passed. His genre was horror, something I'm not really a fan of, honestly. I've enjoyed a few Stephen King books and the work of Poe, but as a general rule, I do not like horror. He's buried not too far from me. Maybe I'll head over one day and say hi. Next, I tried one of my short stories and a poem. Both of them came up Anne Rice. I think most people are at least vaguely familiar with her work. Mainly The Vampire Chronicles, I'd wager. I didn't know that she wrote Christian literature, though she did eventually distance herself from organized Christianity. She's written erotica, which I love, and has been very successful as a writer. Sharp contrast to Mr. Lovecraft. Hmmmm.....interesting. So, apparently, I talk like a Northerner (because I write and post like I talk) and a write stories and poetry like a Southerner. Also interesting. |

Hmmmm....this was interesting so I played around with it a bit.
I first submitted a sample of my prose and typical posting style and came up with Stephen King. Secondly I submitted a short story I had on hand and came up with Anne Rice. Since those are similar authors this makes sense but I do find it interesting as those two have never been favorites of mine. However this is judging style not genre so I suppose it could work. What is interesting I then played around and took excerpts from various authors (Mark Twain, Erma Bombeck, etc.) and submitted those and they did not come up as their own style but as another. I suppose this could make sense as it is matching their style with another. I didn't go too deep into it but this was a fun diversion. Thanks for posting the link! Katniss~~ |

Interesting....
I used one of my posts from here because it was handy.
Apparently, I write like Vladimir Nabokov. ETA: lmao, I might have guessed Dostoyevsky due to the amount of words I use [think War &Peace], but I definitely never saw Nabokov coming. The really hilarious [and unbelievable, lol] part is, I don't say very much at all in real life; I just like to shoot my mouth off online. I definitely prefer written forms of communication.

I used writing samples from three different stories of mine (written at different times over the last two years) and got three different answers. Ian Fleming, Margaret Atwood, and Douglas Adams. I haven't read any work from any of them yet, but I guess I'll have to check them out.
This was fun/interesting. Thanks for posting it, silkepus! |

I tried it again with one of my artist talks and I got Oscar Wilde.
Neither of my results surprises me all that much if I think about it, but I am incredibly delighted and amused. |
