Default Halloweenie Hints, Tricks, and Treats

I thought it might be fun to have a place to post some tips for pumpkin carving, listing what your costume is...what you like to do on Halloween....anything fun and related to that spooky day of the year!

What are YOUR plans this year?

What are you dressing up as?

Any good costume ideas?

Any tips to share from past successes?

We'll be mid-move into the new house, so I'm not sure how much decorating I'll get accomplished this year.

My giant spider and gravestones got left in NY, but I'm sure they can be replaced!

I've always enjoyed staying home to be the candy-giver...I love to see the costumes, especially on the littlest kids who are still baffled by the whole process.

I hope we have lots of kids in the new neighborhood....otherwise Scoote will explode on

We have a TON of kids in our complex so I know we'll be visited frequently. Organic has to work so I'll be manning the door. I like seeing the costumes too. There are a lot of kids in the 5-8 year old range, which I think is perfect for Halloween Trick or Treating. I have a costume but I don't think I'll wear it. There's a party we've been invited to but I don't know if we'll make it. We don't have any major decorations to put up this year.

What are YOUR plans this year?

We are heading up to the O-HI-O to hang with the pack for some fire, love and debauchery later on

What are you dressing up as?

Myself

Any good costume ideas?

The Jersey Shore Characters, or a Drag Queen/King

Any tips to share from past successes?
Never hang to close to the circle of fire, never attempt to bite through a sugar skull, and NEVER go to the nights festivity with ill intent.

I love pumpkin carving! I'm not too good at it
and of course I don't have tools like they use in the video,
BUT, if I did, I would learn to carve a pumpkin this way!

I just use the good old knife in the kitchen...

ps/ I love to toast the pumpkin seeds in butter, honey and sea salt!

Ooooo, Halloween! I love Halloween! But not the way it is today, with chainsaws and gore--I love the Halloween of my childhood, with charming little kids in adorable costumes. Luckily it's still there, alongside the gore!

Our neighborhood association has a big Halloween party every year. Last year I told everyone I was wearing a Muggle costume. I don't think I can get away with that this year, so I finally decided to go as myself, but a little exaggerated. I'm going to splash paint on my hands and shirt--maybe a streak on my cheek, too--and make a necklace of sponge brushes, use a paintbrush--oh, or maybe a couple colored pencils!--as a hairstick (to put up my hair in a bun), and go as an artist!

Big bonus: two shirts, warm jeans and comfy shoes, since the party is in the neighborhood park and it'll be cold.

The thing I do NOT want to do? Be a judge for the costume contest. Guess what I'm doing.... yep, judging the costume contest... oy... glad I don't have to do it alone!

I am giving out olives for trick or treat...lol...

no, not really.

for cheap decor...

if you are a green person, save all those film cannisters and prescription bottles and use them to put pennies, candies and fast food coupons in to pass out on trick or treat night.

or you can poke a large enough hole in the lids and poke strands of xmas tree lights thru them. On the cannisters, you can use finer holes to make halloweeny type pictures, or an exacto knife to cut out halloweeny type pictures...

(everyone has wanted to know a use for them ...so here it is!)

I saw a really cute idea in a magazine....get the white paper bell decorations that they sell in party stores for wedding decorating, cover with white cheesecloth, a few bits of black felt for eyes and mouth...and instant ghost!! And they come in different sizes! Gonna hang them on my tree outside Also, white coffee filters, a small rubber band, and a black marker...and you can hand out lollipop "ghosts" for the trick or treaters.
