How to Dance in the Rain

It was a busy morning, about 8:30,

When an elderly gentleman in his 80s arrived

To have stitches removed from his thumb.

He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.
On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health.

He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late.

He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said,

'She doesn't know me,

But I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left,

I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought,

'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither

Physical, nor romantic.

True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.
The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

They just make the best

Of everything they have.

I like this thread!

Love shows itself to me daily in a hundred different ways. When my guy is extra patient with me because he knows I feel like crap and am crabby as crabby can be, that's love. When the puppies stop in the midst of their playing to come romping towards me because they see me getting ready to go to work and don't want me to leave without kisses, that's love. When I take a deep breath and think of the reasons NOT to go on my coworkers, that's love. When my guy cackles in glee because of the weight of the Christmas box he sent out, that's pride...and love....showing itself.

I'm a semi-romantic. I like but don't require them to know that someone cares. The same goes for the other usual schmoozy stuff. I recognize love when someone takes a few extra moments out of their day to think about me and do something for me that will save me a little bit of time, when they pick something up for me at the store because it "looked like me", or when I'm being thought of and I know it. That's some of the different shades of love.

I think how often we miss love in a lifetime by a wrong gesture, by an unspoken word, or by not keeping silent at the right time. We lose it by the interference of other people, by a lack of money and communication, by a quarrel over something stupid and yet.... we cannot live without it.

There are no words to describe how beautiful or special a woman is or even how I will feel when it comes to her. To put these things into words would be to define them, to quantify them, which means to limit them. There would be a beginning and an end. There is no definition fitting nor any limit.

Seems that I'm always searching for someone to truly love. Running through life blindly, awaiting and dreaming of her. I just have to imagine her laying here with me, no matter where that might be. All my senses reach a new height. If ever my wishes would come true, she will be in front of me. If I ever make it through these dreams, I hope that she will feel the same. As dawn's gray light approaches with leaded heart, I find an empty space beside me. Somehow she seems to be a figment of my imagination. But if the dreams I have shall come true, it will be there that I find the solace of when our souls unite. I have never met her in person, though I have the desire to. To look into her eyes and see her beauty within that will perfectly match her outter beauty!

This is love!

Love is...

Knowing that when I am in so much pain, she will wake up from a dead sleep and drive an hour just to take me to the emergency room. Or when its 10pm at night and I am pulled over on some unknown street vomiting out the car door and she will leave work, just to take me home to make sure I am okay and safe.

And love is...

The day of my grandmothers funeral, my grandfather was sitting there as they lowered the casket into the ground, and he looked at my aunt and said..."I can't wait until I am right there next to her again." And more often than not, he doesn't know who he is today, or where he is, or even what year he is in, but around the holidays, he will never fail to remember his wife, and ask for her.

Love is also...

Watching my dad or my sister walk into a room that my nephew is in, and his face light up with the biggest smile that only a baby can have as he reaches for them and grasps onto them for dear life.

Love is...

The simple things in life, the things that make you smile, that make you feel important, that fill you with this feeling that makes you want to turn around and do something good for someone else. It is a lot of things around us that we take for granted and might not ever see, but are always there. Love is what you make of it.
