Chicago History Museum commemorates the 150th anniversary of the fire with its newest exhibition, open October 8.

‘City on Fire: Chicago 1871’ opens at the Chicago History Museum just in time to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire. The fire sparked immense growth and change in the city, setting it on a path of unmatched resilience and strength. Designed for families to learn, explore, and discover the impact the fire had on the city and the people who lived here, ‘City on Fire’ guides visitors through the crucial events and conditions before, during, and after the fire. Drawing striking comparisons to today’s social climate, ‘City on Fire’ features more than 100 artefacts, interactive and multimedia elements and personal stories from survivors of the fire giving us a look inside what life was like in 1871 and how a tragic event shaped the Chicago we know today.
