You Know That Saying ... (T/F?)

Not sure that I like this saying either, but I've heard it used by preachers, church going folks, or by anyone in general. And like some turns of phrase, it can mean almost anything, depending on the way the 'message' is delivered (ie, tone of voice, facial expression, point of entry or exit in use).

I've heard it used in pejorative ways more often than I've heard it expressed in positive terms.

Take what works for you, toss out what doesn't.

It means that we should always leave situations in good standing, as we may need something from the person in the future.

Sidebar: "Don't burn your bridges," comes from military strategy. It means one should always leave a way to retreat when going into battle.

To keep to oneself, to be secretive, to be very cautious in one's dealing with people and giving nothing much or nothing at all away (as if one were playing cards and not permitting anyone to see any of their cards).

Often used to re-buff someone who wants to argue or fight about a certain topic you feel they have little to zero knowledge about.

Don't Play With Fire

It's a strongly worded phrase which people used to pay attention to. But ..... tonight..... over 10 thousand acres of centuries old Larch are nearly burned down....all of scenic Columbia River Gorge is on fire...it's so bad that Skamania lodge is in danger because the massive fires jumped the huge Columbia River. ......Eagle Creek is the scene of the ignition point....someone was playing with fire crackers. I don't know the full details, but it's like Mt St Helen's blew up. Skies are dark and filled with ash. Umpqua forest ....down by Crater Lake area....it's on fire and has spread as far as encroaching the Sisters and Bend area, I think. Breitenbush, upper Detroit lake area is evacuated..... Oregon has lost thousands and thousands of acres on forest's due to fires raging out of control over the past few days.

It's so incredibly sad tonight, for lots and lots of people.

On its own, Key is usually thought to mean a key which has been tooled specifically to lock or unlock any door. Or Key could be used in terms of implying keys to operate and drive a car. Key is sometimes expressed as something of critical importance (i.e., key witness, key factors, key to the investigation, key concept, key components, key ideas, someone holds the key to your heart..... and so on).

Meaning there are many other people or possibilities, especially when one person or thing has been unsuitable or unsuccessful. This saying is often used to console a person who has lost a girlfriend or boyfriend.

Meaning fully prepared and eager to initiate or deal with a fight, confrontation, or trouble. Angry.
