I heard a podcast interview with the illustrator Lisa Hanawalt and people keep mentioning it ... I think now's the time.

Cool Hunters TV Series (2020-)

I saw the 1st episode of "Hunters" this morning. It's an Amazon Prime release.

"A diverse band of Nazi Hunters in 1977 New York City discover that hundreds of escaped Nazis are living in America and set out on a bloody quest for revenge and justice. However, they soon discover a far-reaching conspiracy and must race against time to thwart the Nazis’ new genocidal plans."

Well, Al Pacino, the chief Nazi hunter, reminds me a lot of Abraham Setrakian, who was the old guy who hunted vampires in "The Strain". In a way, I think the two series are similar in that they are both fantasies, and the "good guys" are hunting the evil ones. Of course, there have been quite a few films made about escaped "Nazis" - e.g. making a secret base on the moon, such as "Iron Sky" (2012), which was good for a laugh, and then there was the classic, "The Boys from Brazil" (1978), etc.

I really don't know what to make of "Hunters"; will watch the last episode and see if I like how it developed, and if I like that one, may watch all the 8 episodes in between. Apparently, these escaped "Nazis" and their young recruits are plotting to create a 4th Reich, and have placed their members in all sorts of powerful positions, such as govt, etc. {Thinking of what is going on in U.S. politics and the rise of the alt-right.} (lol)

Well I checked the last episode, and yes, it looks interesting enough to watch the whole thing Pacino is great!

Default Netflix and Pluto

Have been watching Being Mary Jane again. I quit watching for awhile but am back at it.

I'm still not enjoying Mary Jane's story line, but I love seeing her family in action. So nice to see Margaret Avery (my favorite actress), Richard Roundtree, Raven Goodwin, and Richard Brooks in action on the screen.

It's almost magical for me.

Cool BEFOREIGNERS [Fremvandrerne]

I have been watching a Norwegian crime/mystery - sci-fi series (1st HBO Nordic release, 2019- - btw, HBO Nordic offers a free trial) called "BEFOREIGNERS" or its original Norwegian name "Fremvandrerne", in Norwegian with English subs.

https://beforeigners.com/overview/

Reviews are pretty good, and it's interesting. From the past, people begin appearing mysteriously, coming out of the water in a flash of light into a modern-day Norway. All these people come from the distant past, so one has quite a few Vikings and others from 2 other different epochs in Norway's history, who are all roaming around in the present day. Most of the series takes place about 7 years later. This is also a global phenomenon, and the series centres around Oslo, the police, and a Viking warrior, Alfhildr, (a woman ) who finds a job as a police officer, and partners up with a detective, and then it becomes a crime series.

"In the near future a new phenomenon starts happening all over the world with powerful flashes of light occurring in the ocean and people from the past mysteriously reappearing. Called “beforeigners,” these people come from three separate time periods: the Stone Age, the Viking era and late 19th century. A couple of years later, Alfhildr – who comes from the Viking Age – has to partner up with a burned-out police officer, Lars Haaland, to investigate the murder of a beforeigner. The pair begins to unravel a larger conspiracy behind the origin of the mysterious mass arrivals."

What fun - combining two of my favourite kinds of TV series: crime/mystery and sci-fi.

In some respects, it reminded me of the sci-fi series, "Alien Nation". Anyways, I am enjoying this series.

Been watching "The Rookie". It's not really compelling, but it's okay bubblegum for the brain. I'd hoped for more humor from Nathan Fillion.

I loved this series. It's so cool, the early Celtic stone-age seeming folks mixing with the modern folks. I love how she uses moss for her period, all those little touches to contrast the different periods. I also liked how tough and yet emotionally open the women are.

Post Planet of the Humans April 21, 2020 YouTube

Michael Moore Presents: Planet of the Humans | Full Documentary | Directed by Jeff Gibbs

Michael Moore presents Planet of the Humans, a documentary that dares to say what no one else will this Earth Day — that we are losing the battle to stop climate change on planet earth because we are following leaders who have taken us down the wrong road — selling out the green movement to wealthy interests and corporate America. This film is the wake-up call to the reality we are afraid to face: that in the midst of a human-caused extinction event, the environmental movement’s answer is to push for techno-fixes and band-aids. It's too little, too late.

Removed from the debate is the only thing that MIGHT save us: getting a grip on our out-of-control human presence and consumption. Why is this not THE issue? Because that would be bad for profits, bad for business. Have we environmentalists fallen for illusions, “green” illusions, that are anything but green, because we’re scared that this is the end—and we’ve pinned all our hopes on biomass, wind turbines, and electric cars?

No amount of batteries are going to save us, warns director Jeff Gibbs (lifelong environmentalist and co-producer of “Fahrenheit 9/11” and “Bowling for Columbine"). This urgent, must-see movie, a full-frontal assault on our sacred cows, is guaranteed to generate anger, debate, and, hopefully, a willingness to see our survival in a new way—before it’s too late.

Featuring: Al Gore, Bill McKibben, Richard Branson, Robert F Kennedy Jr., Michael Bloomberg, Van Jones, Vinod Khosla, Koch Brothers, Vandana Shiva, General Motors, 350.org, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sierra Club, the Union of Concerned Scientists, Nature Conservancy, Elon Musk, Tesla.

Music by: Radiohead, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Blank & Jones, If These Trees Could Talk, Valentina Lisitsa, Culprit 1, Patrick O’hearn, The Torquays, Nigel Stanford, and many more.

And, Being Mary Jane hired other artists like Jill Scott and Cardi B. Both of them were enjoyable with good roles, but the absolute best was hiring Loretta Devine who played a handsome stud who owns a bookstore in season 3. She kept me blushin' like a schoolgirl with her con-artist, Cadillac-drivin' ass.
