You say the worm has turned if someone who has accepted a lot of bad treatment from other people without complaining suddenly decides that they are not going to accept the situation any longer: someone previously downtrodden gets his revenge; an unfavorable situation is reversed.

Getting rid of an unwanted situation or person fast.

Sidebar: The “classical” bum's rush was a bartender or bouncer lifting the deadbeat or intruder by the back of his shirt or jacket collar and the seat of his pants and then throwing him through the tavern door. The phrase, which came into vogue around the turn of the 20th century, survives in its “throw the bum out!” incarnation.

To bite one's tongue means to hold back from speaking, to refrain from saying something that will annoy, hurt or rile the listener.

Sidebar: The idea is to hold the tongue between one's teeth to stop the words from escaping one's mouth.
