The Prime Minister's wife has been diagnosed with this virus, they had already decided to self isolate when she was feeling some symptoms. My workplace has 2 identified cases, my tower is not affected and the building has disinfected the floor in the other tower and those people on the floor are in self isolation.
I am fortunate that should they decide to close the office we can work from home, but honestly I feel like my workplace is the safest place to be. They are super diligent in cleaning and providing us with the supplies to take care of our desks. Although this virus is scary, what I fear more is the economic havoc it will have on everyone. I personally am not panicking but am certainly being proactive in my care. |

My college has been shut down. Us instructors have been told to start modifying our courses to be online until further notice. All of our mid-term grades are due on the same time frame. However, out offices are still open. nothing like a twist to end the semester.

The Covid-19 virus has unexpected testing impacts already. I read tonight, a NYT's article, how people cannot get the test help they need, even after ER doctors tell them they need to get tested because they simply don't 'meet the criteria' for the health threat when seen by medical professionals.
That's got to be super scary. Today at work, we noticed impacts such as the work population not being as high as it normally is. I also heard from random people at work that when they didn't have supplies on hand, on their specific floor and that janitorial had limited supplies (which is unheard of, seriously, they always have overstock), they shopped at local stores for tissue, sanitizer, paper towels, etc and not one store had any to buy. That was as of today. I was like, "Wow". Here's that link to the article I read, just minutes ago, published by the NYT's (LINK).

Our parking deck at work is looking pretty sparse.
* * * I'm scared as heck to look at my 401K account. * * * I'm working from home now, and so will everyone else in my office within the next week. * * * I tried to warn my boss we should not sign any long-term (9 months out) contracts for hotels, as we are hearing public health officials say it will be 18 months before they have a vaccine ready for the public. We will just end up paying deposits for sleeping and meeting rooms that we can't get back. Her reply: no one is talking about stuff a year away right now, don't worry about it. Arrrrggghhhhh! She is so short-sighted.

China Ends Wuhan Lockdown, but Normal Life Is a Distant Dream
In the city where the coronavirus outbreak was first reported, the reopening of outbound travel won’t end hard times, wariness or confinement. * If the link doesn’t work it’s from today’s New York Times If we are following Wuhan’s lead in the development of this virus it’s possible at the end of it could also look very similar. If indeed it is the end. |

Hundreds of airline employees are testing positive for the covid-19.
Hundreds of airlines employees have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent days and that number is expected to continue rising, according to information released by multiple unions. https://www.localmemphis.com/article...5-30137c1e2891 I have been checking my wifes' temperature twice a day, her chest has been heavy in recent days so I am concerned. Our flight crew returning from the Virgin Islands on the 28th were based out of NYC.

Today I received a notice informing Harvard School of Public Health has found air pollution is making it harder for people to recover from COVID-19. Health officials are reminding citizens who live where burn bans are already in place to of course not burn things against the law. They're also asking those living in areas where burn bans are not in effect to find other means of disposal whenever possible.

What Do Countries With The Best Coronavirus Responses Have In Common? Women Leaders
Looking for examples of true leadership in a crisis? From Iceland to Taiwan and from Germany to New Zealand, women are stepping up to show the world how to manage a messy patch for our human family. Add in Finland, Iceland and Denmark, and this pandemic is revealing that women have what it takes when the heat rises in our Houses of State. Many will say these are small countries, or islands, or other exceptions. But Germany is large and leading, and the UK is an island with very different outcomes. These leaders are gifting us an attractive alternative way of wielding power. What are they teaching us? Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, stood up early and calmly told her countrymen that this was a serious bug that would infect up to 70% of the population. “It’s serious,” she said, “take it seriously.” She did, so they did too. Testing began right from the get-go. Germany jumped right over the phases of denial, anger and disingenuousness we’ve seen elsewhere. The country’s numbers are far below its European neighbors, and there are signs it may be able to start loosening restrictions relatively soon. List of Countries with Female Leaders and Coronavirus death rates Data from the European Centre for Disease Control as of April 12, 2020 20-FIRST Among the first and the fastest responses was from Tsai Ing-wen in Taiwan. Back in January, at the first sign of a new illness, she introduced 124 measures to block the spread without having to resort to the lockdowns that have become common elsewhere. She is now sending 10 million face masks to the U.S. and Europe. Tsai managed what CNN has called “among the world’s best” responses, keeping the epidemic under control, still reporting only six deaths. Jacinda Ardern in New Zealand was early to lockdown and crystal clear on the maximum level of alert she was putting the country under – and why. She imposed self-isolation on people entering New Zealand astonishingly early, when there were just 6 cases in the whole country, and banned foreigners entirely from entering soon after. Clarity and decisiveness are saving New Zealand from the storm. As of mid-April they have suffered only four deaths, and where other countries talk of lifting restrictions, Ardern is adding to them, making all returning New Zealanders quarantine in designated locations for 14 days. https://www.forbes.com/sites/avivahw.../#1a5ed0963dec

Tonight, I read the latest update: More than 1 person dies every minute from Covid-19 and just today another milestone in that more than 300K+ have lost their lives. And we're only 9 months into the pandemic with losses of that number. They say that even when you receive your shot for immunity, that even then masks must be worn until maybe early next winter. I keep thinking we will keep seeing the death toll numbers rise because the virus is not yet eradicated much less under 'control'.
Will we have to keep getting booster shots periodically? I'm not sure, but to me it's like we still don't know how this monster virus evolved, do we? Has anyone read anything from the medical or science community that speaks about what is known at this time and is it, since it's a member of the corona virus family, will it keep coming back as a seasonal thing, like catching a common cold or a seasonal flu bug? I still think the evolution of this virus seems to be a by-product of climate change, possibly.
