Today is my first day on NutriSystem, it was a gift which Iam grateful for because I couldn't of afforded it. Back in 2008 I was a size 11-12 looked great, felt great, had more energy. After my Mother passed in 2008 I went into a depression since then I have come to terms and accepted the things I cannot change. But gaining an extra 50 lbs is something I can change and I will try my damness to follow this wonderful gift I have received from my family member. What's interesting is learning what foods go with what and of course PORTION control. I'm a diabetic and I'm following their program. One of the tips is u choose either a dairy or protein with breakfast n lunch . Which means you don't do both. Now example: 2oz cereal sugar free, 8oz skim milk, is your breakfast so you add another dairy or protein , addition 4 oz skim milk oe 1oz of protein like low fat cottage or greek plain yogurt/tuna/2oz protein chicken breast... just wanted to share a few tips. Wish me luck ... I'm on my way to being my old self again ..... if anyone wants to know about what substitutes you can use PM me I will be glad to provide help for my fellow planeteers As I know money is a issue for alot of people.

If you don't use any kind of flea/tick/etc. treatment, consider one of these to keep those fleas from happening in the first place.

Advantix : http://www.petparents.com/specialoff...antix+for+dogs

Frontline: http://www.1800petmeds.com/Frontline...prod10459.html

I just threw two sites up there, you can search the internet for better deals.

Expensive, but keeps them healthy, and not just from fleas.

Fleas still bite with these. They are suppose to die after they do but don't always work. But they will poison your dog.

I feel GREAT today. Don't know if it was the exercise last night or that I have started buckling down a little harder on nutrition but whatever it is, it's worth it!

I got out and mowed the yard yesterday and did some cleanup around the house. Had the windows open most of the day to get some fresh air. It really does a soul good to get some good, clean Ozark air!

I was thinking about how my diet has changed even from a year ago. Thought I'd share:

A year ago, this is what my food intake would have looked like:

Breakfast:
2 Tylenol
Redbull
1 cup of coffee with full-fat creamer

Midmorning:
2 Diet Cokes

Lunch:
Pizza or something fried
One of those giant Otis Spunkmeyer cookies
a huge Diet Coke

Mid Afternoon:
2 more Diet Cokes
some kind of candy bar

Dinner:
Chicken fried steak with gravy or a heavy carb-loaded meal with very few veggies
More Diet Coke or Red Bull

Before bed:
Ice cream and Diet Coke

Sleep: 3- 4 hours a night.

Jeez. No wonder I felt like crap!

Now my intake is like this:

Breakfast:
an occasional 1/2 cup of coffee with sugar-free creamer
water
oatmeal (no sugar) with fruit or yogurt or smoothie

Mid morning snack:
more water
some kind of fruit (usually grapefruit, pluot, or apple)
v8 (spicy hot or low-sodium!)

Lunch:
some kind of lean meat (usually chicken), a steamed green veggie, and a salad
more water

Afternoon snack:
either a Fiber One bar or fruit or carrot sticks
more water

Dinner:
Lean meat (super small portion) 2 steamed veggies (mostly green unless I do squash) and a dinner salad
more water

I do an occasional after dinner snack of a sugar-free banana popsicle or grapes (small portions!)

Sleep: 5- 6 hours a night!

I haven't taken Tylenol for knee pain in over 4 months. I haven't had a Diet Coke in almost 6 months. I'm exercising regularly.

Big change! Feel great!

Today's menu so far...

Breakfast:
  • black coffee
  • 1 slice whole wheat toast with tuna salad

Mid-morning snack:
  • last of the cantaloupe...about a cup
  • greek yogurt

Lunch (right now):
  • Salad with....
  • organic baby greeens
  • tomato
  • half a cucumber
  • 1 hard boiled egg
  • about 1/2 cup garbanzo beans (have rediscovered my love for these on salad)
  • small amount of avocado...maybe 1/6 ?
  • homemade cider vinegar and EVOO dressing

For dinner tonight I'm making homemade soup....stock I made from the ham bone (baked ham for dinner Sunday night)....with onions, canellini beans and chunks of the ham. Yummy....and legumes!

Sleep is absolutely essential and not just any sleep but good sleep. I use to be fine with 6 hours but as I get older I fine that I need at least 8, 9 is perfect. Getting enough rest and sleep is very important in weight loss and over all health. I have periods where I just can't sleep. Every other month for a few days. Also when I keep Mia, my granddaughter, I wake up with each toss and turn. It throws me off cycle and effects me for days. I listen to audios at night to help me sleep deeper.

I have decided that there are a few things I most likely will not give up:

Crusty Artisan Bread
well made cheeses- goat, blue cheese, guyere and the like.

Therefore I think I will spend this winter mastering the art of bread and cheese making. I have a vitamix so I'm going to purchase organic grains and grind flour. Practice making really healthy but yummy fresh breads. I can buy raw milk in NC, or so I'm told so I'll practice making cheeses. I've done both bread and cheese before. This time I'll take it to a whole new level.

Oh honey, I feel ya! Here is what my daily meals were like:

Breakfast:
a big ol' Diet Coke from the convience store
2 fried steak, egg & cheese taquito things (yeah, from the healthy convience store deli)

Snack:
Diet Coke refill
Reese's peanut butter cups

Lunch:
Taco Bell taco salad (yeah, I tried to trick myself that crap was healthy @ almost 780 calories with that fried shell)
more Diet Coke

Dinner:
Pasta with some rich cream sauce
ceaser salad
garlic bread
and a bottle of wine

After dinner, we would eat ice cream, too!

No wonder I always felt like crap! I was always tired, too!

Cool No labels

> I have learned fruits and vegetables are good to eat, I can cook them , or eat them raw.

>I have made vegetarian chipolte chili, with all fresh Veggie's and corn-off-the cob and using Morningstar veggie sausage was quite tasty.

> I am having a hella time learning to cook wild rice, among other things..but it is too hard, or too mushy..Maybe I should buy a rice cooker.

>I am still staying out of the lane, that Drive Thru Lane

>I don't anything canned

>I am trying to stay away from processed foods, anything with a label.

>I am looking for a secret growth hormone to make me a foot taller. That would even it all out, Really..no really.

>I still swim and jacuzzi at about 5:30 AM every day , and have lost about 30 pounds, now if I could just be 6 feet tall.

I heard Depok Chapra say..."i don't anything that's dead" . It sounded gross enough to keep me away from McDonalds BigMac and KFC Chicken.

Too hot too cook.

Broke out the slow cooker and put in small chuck roast and later will add fresh carrots, red potatoes, celery. Just a tiny bit of salt & seasoned pepper. It is probably my first red meat in a year but had a craving and at least my craving is not for sweets anymore.

Probably will last 3-4 meals.

Happy Labor Day weekend

I just had an Amy's organic burrito for lunch and it was SO good. Had half of a fuji apple on the side and slamming a bunch of water.

Had a banana smoothie this morning and plan to do a veggie plate tonight with sweet potato fries, green beans, and steamed asparagus.
