Many years ago there floated around Usenet this "what is your porn name" meme, except they weren't called memes yet. The formula was your mother's maiden name + the street you grew up on. My mother's maiden name made me sound like an accountant rather than a porn star so I used my grandmother's instead. Hence I was Slater Bates. I started using that as a screen name for awhile and then shortened it.

That wouldn't work so well for those of us who grew up on, say, 7th street, but the meme I ran into was [given name = first pet's name] + [surname = mother's maiden name].

This turned out pretty well for me: Peppy Littleton!
