Wow, just one??
Judging from the number of underlined passages and notes I've scribbled in the margins, I'd have to say Boys of My Youth by Jo Ann Beard. I get engrossed in her life stories, but she's such a finely crafted writer that I'm just as fascinated by how she's telling them. It's like being caught up and amazed by some spectacular magic trick, while simultaneously getting to see (and be just as amazed) by how it's done. On the fiction side, I'd have to say the Complete Collection of Carson McCullers for much the same reason--I like appreciating the craft as much as the plot.
