Yeah it was a nitro set up for the stout. I went for lunch. You all inspired me. I had a vegan pizza. Yum. Then got my hair cut and went to Barnes and Noble. Very pleasant. Anyway, . . .
They err on the dry side in general and really go for the earthy, funky, musty flavors. I tried eight samples. They were all good. I love my stouts and porters, but neither was my favorite. I didn't try any IPA's. Sorry. The OVL Stout -- all those earthy flavors I mentioned. Not sweet at all. Good, but on the thin side. My least favorite. Russian River Porter -- very nice. Earthy again. No complaints but it didn't rock my world. Compunction -- the pale ale with pluots -- divine. Just yummy. This is a sour. OMG. Sour at first, then bright and lemony. Then musky and finally the pluot taste, which was loud. Mmm. Perdition -- a biere de garde -- My favorite. The sweetest of them all, but not sweet. Complex, with each flavor clean and almost separate. I like that. Earthy again, nutty, caramel, and fruity. Just excellent. Erudition -- saison -- funk again, and some fruit and spice. Also surprisingly yummy. Supplication -- sour aged in pinot barrels -- excellent. The sours were all good. So good. Did I say they were good? They were good. Strong sour start and then a dance of fruit and wine and then nutty dark stuff. Damn this was good. Damnation -- Beligian Strong Ale -- good stuff. More of a conventional beer than the others I tried, but that could be just based on what I tried. But good. Complex again -- all the way through. Fruit and yeast and alcohol flavors. I felt like I was drinking a really well crafted beer. Consecration -- My second favorite -- a darker sour aged in cab barrels. This is undoubtedly a better beer than Perdition, which I liked better. But that's just because Perdition was more to my particular taste. This -- Consecration -- is a great beer. Sour and then dark fruity flavors of all kinds. Just a delight. I smiled with every sip, that smile that means I am surprised and engaged. |

I like a classic Pilsner kind of beer,
so I keep it simple with having the champagne of beers: Miller. . . |

Thanks for the write up, Martina. I loved reading it. I felt like I could taste each of the beers as you described them. I'd love to go a beer sampling with you some time!
A thin stout? Nothing more disappointing.
