BMWs, for example, will run for many, many miles and since they run so long, you can get a higher mileage used one for cheap, and have it last for many years. But you're quite right, you can get great deals when you buy them, but you have to be prepared to invest the money in the maintenance and repair.

I do like that the Volvo is now in a lower repair cost bracket since Ford started manufacturing their parts.
