My word is-startling. I would rather be the beauty that you do not see coming. The one that you glance at, then look at more closely. The one that seems unconventional, different and unique.
I like to think that I am working this word right now. A recent change in hair color and contact lenses means that I have hair so black it seems blue and eyes so blue they seem black. Combined with the very pale skin I always have and the rich, wine-colored lipstick I love, I *think* that "startling" may suit me. For now.
