Well it would have all the potential problems that the site has: some people just there to cause trouble/conflicts, some people being intolerant and bigoted with respect to others, etc. And then those who might take advantage of the kindness and generosity of others. Duplicity, etc.

I guess what I am saying is that there would have to be a rigorous screening policy before letting people in. And there might be politics around said screening policy, and camps might spring up and get divided, etc.

I am not saying it's not a great idea, I guess I am just aware of all the potential pitfalls of such a thing. Nothing that is good and right and important is easy.

I'm thinking with 400 acres - people could opt to build their own dwelling or duplex??

Still communal in the sense that we're together, yet can still have that sense of privacy.

There of course could be total comunal living - but unless you have done it you should read up on it ...because it can be trying and tiring at times.

I'd rather buy a plot of land in the BF compound and build a small place or duplex where I love my neighbors.

I am not handy in the garden, but if this were to happen after I retired I'd be more than happy to pitch in and I know how to make yogurt, bread, ect etc. There was a time when I lived in a commune in the early 70's and we had a great little garden.

Would love permanent BF space where I know and love my community and neighbors. Like any private community - we have a gate system that keeps the rif and the raff out? yes?

Default Beautiful Idea

I would not at this point in my life be able to relocate. What we could do is buy a time share in the Compound Vacation Club! I would love:

A swimming hole or pool
A community theater where we could stage productions and invite in the greatest queer artists to teach and perform.
A family center
A health center where all bodies would feel accepted and cared for
A senior center and places where older folks can age in place surrounded by Family who understand and love them
An animal shelter
A place to worship that is welcoming to all

I am a former professional house cleaner and I love organizing and cleaning. I have many computer skills and love databases and spreadsheets.

Yes, I would totally live on the BFP compound.

The skills I could contribute to are: Cooking, Entertainment, I have great interpersonal and organizational skills and can type 106 wpm...I have fast fingers (wigglin' eyebrows) and NO I don't play the piano (I have been asked this over time since i'm a fast typist) I have so much more to offer too but will spare everyone until the final interview..

Yes, people should pay rent for things we need so some of us could go into the city and purchase the things we need for our livelihood. No free rides people. We must all contribute.

Mess Hall is a good idea, but also if folks want to have some "together time" they can feel free to do that too.

Hmmm, that's the question, we would get tired of living with family all year round. I think it would be normal if folks had a few quirks about stuff, but it would have to be addressed accordingly as folks would need to respect one another. We're human after all and I'm sure there would be a few things that could get on nerves...

Pros:
OUR Community finally having our own living ground(s) and us having normality for once without hestitation or fear.
Never having to say goodbye to our b-f family
Not having to wait a year to reunite to see each other
We can just be ourselves because baby, we were born this way

Cons:
"Possibly" too much togetherness which could drive some of us insane
Having NON-invited guests trying to crash our living ground out of curiosity and constantly having that stress

There is way more I would like to add but I'm getting writer's block...

Would you want to live on a BFP compound?
What skills can you contribute?
Would you want to do community meals every night in the "Mess Hall"?
Would people still need to pay something into the system like rent, even if it was only nominal?
Do you think you'd get tired of living with family all year long?

Yes, but I think it should be broken into apartment like things, not just bedrooms.

I cook. A lot. I clean too. I know how to do a lot of things in the nursing field -- and quite a few things I shouldn't know how to do -- and in general take direction well.

However, I'd much rather be out working in my field. I say I'd like being a houseboy, but I'd get bored in one month. I'd be willing to pay rent.

As long as there was separate place, like apartments or something, I'd be fine living together.

That's all I can think of currently.

I would love love love this! As far as what I can contribute, I am an awesome cook, even for large crowds. (I once held the position of Convent Cook at Boystown. There weren't THAT many nuns there at the time, but we had quite a few in residence, plus they were always having people joining them for meals).

I would also want my own space to retreat to. I would love having the option of being around everyone, but there are just times, yanno?

Anyway, someone also talked about preferring to just pay rent and continue working in their field. I am the same way, I can work wherever I happen to be with my business, as long as I have REALLY GOOD INTERNET CONNECTIONS! So I could easily picture Mon-Fri working for my own biz, then Sat & Sun helping cook, clean, and all that community stuff.

I also would vote for someplace with a temperate climate most of the year, if possible. I don't do bugs, don't do the bad snakes, don't like extremes in temperatures anymore. altho, if I have air-conditioning and a nice fireplace (or better yet someone to snuggle up with when its cold!), I could probably live about anywhere.

Reluctantly, no. But that's just me; I wouldn't do well with people just showing up to visit. Would each household have "at home" hours, or would all doors be open all the time?

I could teach the kiddies

Would there be the option of having meals alone if wanted? I wouldn't want just a cabin with beds and one mess hall, like Girl Scout camp.

What about relatives and friends, would they be allowed to visit on the premises?

Who would be in charge, and how selected? Would these people end up like a "higher tier" of resident, with all the power? Would there be "term limits"?

How would the rules of the community be decided? What if there was an objection?

Communal living in a kind of utopia always sounds good on paper, but hasn't worked in reality. And maybe I shouldn't post, as I'm crabby .

I would like to live on the compound now that I am retired. I am not a cook, but would be happy to clean.

I think there should be community meals in the "Mess Hall" every night.

Those who can't pay, even sliding scale, can contribute in some other way.

I wouldn't get tired of it as long as I had private space to get away.

It is always difficult when humans are put together in one place; disagreements, misunderstandings. There would probably be a need for community meetings, often. There would have to be rules and consequences that we create and agree upon. And the larger the group, the harder it is to police or find command ground. So size matters.

Awesome thread. Sounds like a great idea, I think I would want it more as a retirement village community. I think community Dinners would be awesome. I could contribute too. I can run a backhoe, or a grader, or a dozer and dumptruck and a semi. So I could help level the land to build on. I have never built a house but I have remodeled scores of houses, I am a member in good standing with Tulsa Home Remodelers Assoc. I can install anything on the inside. Drywall tile doors windows molding cabinets tubs toilets fixtures lights outlets .I can build a decorative fireplace any carpentery, counter tops etc texture spray . I never framed a house or bricked one or done much concrete work. But I have done everything else. Also I'm a small engine mech. So I can fix mowers weedeaters boats etc. And I'm an expert car detailer!
Can we have a golf course? And a heated saltwater pool ? And a nice gym? Some biking and running trails. Maybe a nice club house with a huge dance floor and lots of seating with a stocked bar. And a huge theather room for movies and to watch football together or MMA fights whatever. Would be great to have a Dr. And RN on staff. I'm sure I will think of more but that is good for now.

Let's speak it into the Universe!
Well I grew up on a farm so have some knowledge about that. Also have an electrical/hvac background. Have done plumbing work as well as some carpentry, laid ceramic tile , tile and laminate floors. Don't care for dry walling tears my sinuses up but can do it. Have a Class A CDL so we could have our own truck for the community to haul and sell excess food.
Meals maybe on the weekends or special occassions. .Would rather buy the land so I owned it.Have my own place to get away. Could charge a fee like a gated community to pay for security.
