Happy Friday!!
Happy Friday everyone! So I did a ummm.....4000 yd swim workout this morning?? Again, sometimes I lose count. But I know I did 20 100 yd repeats! along with lot of other stuff. It was so beautiful here today I took an hour outta my study time and went for a bike ride, dusting off my road bike and doing about 17 miles.Awesome weather for it;cool enough so ya don't sweat a ton,but warm enough to ride in shorts and a short sleeve jersey. Planning on going for a mountain bike ride in the morning, mebbe I won't wind up like this>>>> Then it's nothing but schoolbooks and homework but it's gotta be done! Hope everyone has a great weekend! Shad

well I just found this thread because I acutally just started looking for it.
Christie: I am so proud of you Shad: friend I miss swimming I used to do a mile everyother day so tomorrow I start my training for my first 5K. Does anyone have any great techniques and or helpful hints on running and how to get the most out of it? I am new to this sport and since I can not swim right now (no pool) or bike (killed it and almost me on the railroad tracks), the gym is what I've got... so I am on my journey to a better healthier me... Smiles PS: I just read the entire thread... since there are runners out there.. I wanna play too, I just need help and a bit of extra motivation... maybe if i do not focus on weight loss and focus on the athletic goal it will be better? any suggestions? well since this thread seems so quiet... WAKE UP PEOPLE.... okay just kidding ...
Today was day #3 of my training... it went really well...I pushed.. well pushed is not the word I let my body do the talking and I ended up doing 5 intervals of 2 minutes jogs a piece. Thank you Shadows papa for the advice on breathing. My body just adapts to it when I stop thinking about it... and after I realized I was holding my breath... I started fosusing on the wall and zoning out it really just took hold. I can not wait until tomorrow at the gym... maybe I will add some weights (but not for the legs they are ouchie enough).. Gone to Hell In a Handbasket
Looks back in since my workouts have gone to hell in the proverbial handbasket with the demands of finals coming up. Kat! Kudos to you for taking that first step!I would say just focus on the process and eat better, and don't obsess on the weight loss,it will come.Being healthy and feeling good about yourself is the main thing! I am doing a 10k this weekend at the state park here. I am not looking to set the woods on fire, just a nice slow easy pace to let my healing hamstring get back into it.There are lots of runners here with more experience and better technique than me,hopefully they will come on in and share their knowledge! Now,back into the handbasket I go!! Shad

Good Afternoon Shad,
Thank you! Now that it is cooler here, I can do more exercising. Trying to exercise in 100 degree heat is horrible and I don't like going out at after dark gets hard to find time to do it. Jet, I am going to take your tip and see if that works for me. How is the cycling going? Have a good Saturday, Zimmy I find it harder during the holidays to not eat sweets. I usually just eat what I can and if I want some sweets, I eat a little bit of it. Quote:

I'm Baccccckkkkkkkk!!
Hello everyone! Zimmy the cycling has consisted of mainly playing in the woods on my mountain bike. Today I did my first 10k race since injuring my hamstring in October. I felt great, and because I was running with a trainer partner who needed encouragement,I stayed with him and didn't try to set the woods on fire with my non-blazing speed! Took it nice and easy and finished in 1:14:24 without ever breathing hard! It made me forget about the pressures of school for a while and I had the opportunity to catch up with lots of folks from the running, cycling, triathlon community here I haven't seen in ages!So it was a great day to be alive and healthy and playing outdoors! Happy Weekend everybody! Shad

Congrats Shad and it sounds like you had fun. I am about to head out for a powerwalk in this 50's degree weather and enjoy it....
Have a good night and rest your hamstring, Zimm Quote:

Hey everyone,
Well due to major cash flow issues, I had a 'forced' walk today of 1 mile back from going to town to deliver my car plates to my insurance agency. I'm going to miss driving my little corolla even if it's for a couple of weeks or less. I know that my knees may be 'shot' but until they hurt like an SOB, I'll walk when I have to. Swimming has been put on the back burner due to money issues and now car issues. But the forced walk home, while painful was probably something I should continue to do. Meanwhile, I've been diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea and my doctor is seeing me on the 17th to follow up regarding my blood pressure. there's evidence to suggest that as soon as I'm able to adjust to a CPAP machine to help with my sleep apnea, I'll be able to have see results in lower blood sugars, and lower blood pressure, and hopefully I'll feel more rested too! I hate all this 2 steps forward/1 step back thing but that's how it goes I guess. Shadows thanks to trying to keep this thread going. I need it/and want it. I could use this kind of support as I spend a lot of my time alone. Now that I'm working almost more than full time and my brain is being exercised, more and more I need to balance it out with the physical. I know this I'm committed to it. -Cheers

Good Evening PapaC,
I know about the issue with losing your car. I lost my car for nearly a year when it decided to stop running in the middle of an intersection on New Year's Eve. But the cop pushing me home with his car made up for it, he saw that I was upset and started telling me jokes on his loud speaker to make me laugh, which it did and had the whole neighborhood looking at us funny; they saw him pushing my Ford Escort with his blue lights on. I can never thank that officer enough for making me smile that night. Hope everything gets better with you and soon! Have a good night, Zimmy Quote:

Last night was the last night of week #1 training.. and I did the intervals and hit my first 3 miles in less than and hour with 12 min of jogging. That is a huge step for me. Thanks for the encouragement. I have a good team thus far. They see I am going to the gym and they want to come too, and if it is just me I make myself go and even a 30 min work out is better than nothing. Today starts week #2 Walk 5min jog 2min.. (hehe I am almost there already)... but I will take it as it is... I am really enjoying not working out to lose weight. It is so much more refreshing trying to beat my fastest time. 1.5 miles in 27:30 wooot... considering it took 30 min last tuesday. Smiles |

OY and OUCH
Week 2 Day 2
today's work out sucked... I wanted to take a day off but got a text message from a buddy saying that he would be there in 20 min... well that was my sign to get off my toosh and get to the gym... I was alot slower today but kept my 1.5 miles under 30 min.. but not by much... every jog I told him how much I was mad at him... which in hind sight means I can talk more while I am jogging with out huffing anf puffing.. (thats a good thing) so after the bitching on the tred mill I lifted and worked the upper body because the lower is just ouchy so that was all stretching... Those of you who need a boost to get to the gym or out for a walk today.. this is your internet text message.. even 30 minutes of activity will make you feel better TRUST ME... you can do it Smiles |

I dunwanna I donwanna I donwanna you can't make me NO NO NO NO....
okay so since I really do not want to work out today because it will have to be after work, I am posting this little blip on reasons why I should not HAVE to work out today... 1. I donwanna (not good enough) 2. the order comes in today and I will have to lift to put it away (not good enough). 3. I work til close then have to get up early (almost there but not good enough). 4. co-workers want to hit the gym tonight (crap...) 5. i will feel better once I get to the gym (double crap...) 6. I can put a cool sticker on my calendar when I get home from the gym (*looks down at shoes... damn) 7. I guess I have no good reason not to go to the gym tonight, even for a half hour... I could switch it up and not do the tred mill... yeah... Alright, if I HAVE to go then you should too... 30 min of anything today... we can do it.. Smiles |

Hehe Hottprof,
Does lifting boxes of textbooks count as a workout? If so, I lifted around 70lbs of textbooks I shipped out and another 30lbs in textbooks that I received.... This is what I felt like doing earlier this afternoon when it was raining... Have a good night, Zimmy Quote:

Hi All,
I just found this thread and am glad I did. I am a heavy guy, and am working on loosing weight. I have lost a bit of weight, and am still working on it. It is a daily struggle for me. I have Diabetes, and & other major health issues so I'm concerned about my weight. I have started walking when I golf, and walk up and down the stairs, and walk Dino Martini, my mini pin dog. Rather he has been walking me with this cold weather moving in. Andrew |

Welcome to the thread Andrew!
What helped me with losing weight is that I quit drinking soda and added more water in its place. I also stopped drinking regular whole milk and went to Chocolate SoyMilk. Have a good night, Zimmy Quote:
