I could NOT get into "Girl who kicked the hornet's nest" - Is it just me? Does it pick up after the second chapter?

I might pick it up again but the writing feels tedious to me!!

After much debate (with myself), I ended up purchasing a Kindle because I was going on a long trip (and couldn't justify paying for a heavier luggage bag, which was already crammed). So far, so good...after I've played with it some more, I'll post in the Kindle thread

I'm about half-way through reading Wench by Perkins-Valdez and am really enjoy it it--thanks, Christie, for the recommendation!

Just finished A Casebook of Murder by Colin Wilson and just started reading another of his titled A Criminal History of Mankind and am working on getting more of his work.
No, I'm not morbid or planning on killing people, I just find the psychology of criminals and the various study of criminology fascinating, and I've always foudn Colin Wilson doesn't bullshit his research.

I am reading through the banned book list. I spent a satisfying 15 minutes looking at And Tango Makes Three. Now I believe Farenheit 451 again because first they burn books then they burn people.

I thought it was the best of the three, but only because I knew the whole story.
I dont like the writing style of the author, it was tedious.
I had to try 2 diff times to read the 1st book. OMG it was horrible. But I loved the story, and I could ID with Salander, so just had to know how it all ended.

Have you seen the movies? They are out in a US version and Swedish version.

DO watch the Swedish version. You can turn on the English dub which isnt bad. The main character was cast perfectly. She is interviewed in the extras section of the 1st DVD I believe.

Most books are better than the movie, but in this case its def the reverse. It leaves out all that tedious back chatter.

I think with most of Steig Larsson's books the issue is the language barrier. Overall they are awesome books though but I have to agree the movies flow better.

I liked how the movies stuck to the book story exactly. Im often disappointed w/ US movies based on a book. Some bear lil resemblance to the original story.

I needed a break from my ordinary reading load for classes and opened up this book last night and read a bit... I really like what I've read so far but will probably not get to devote too much attention to the story - So, I'll save my review for later when I can finish it.

Over a year ago, I began to read the "Dragon Tattoo" and it took me a bit to get into his style of storytelling - much of that story triggered me in ways I didn't expect - but I did enjoy all three of his works in that series.

I'm reading about Minimalism...... > > HERE < <

...because MAXilism hasn't exactly worked out in pleasant fashion for me, personally speaking.

Edited to add: These points have really hit home for me....
Consider that when we embrace solitude…

■We intentionally remove the influence of others for period of time.
■We intentionally remove the expectations of others.
■We are able to hear our own heart speak.
■We find rest and refreshment.
■We discover that others can live without us.
■We find that the world does not rest on our shoulders.
■We can adequately reflect on our past and chart our future.
■We break the cycle of busyness in our lives.
■We become better equipped to show patience with others.
■We feed our souls.

Default 2 books

i'm listening to 2 books right now. One is the sequel to Three Cups of Tea and is called Stones Into Schools. This continues the story of Greg Mortensen's efforts to build schools for boys and girls in remote villages in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Highly recommended! The second is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and tells the story of the woman from whose cancer came all the cells used today in devoping medicine, doing research into cancer and other diseases. They are called HELA cells. Another librarian recommended it. Unexpectedly fascinating!
