At the risk of getting in between you two in this, I am compelled to respond. Initially, my reaction was to agree with Gemme, but looking back, Kobi is right. In addition, and in all honesty, the movies recently have (IMO) been largely crap. Friends who see the movies I do, tend to agree and we haven't seen a movie that knocks it out of the park in a very long time. So, Kobi isn't negative, but the movies have been lacking and it's hard to be positive. This is why i've been backtracking to movies from the past that ARE decent, just to fulfill my need for good cinema.

"I am Number Four"
It wasn't a bad movie, it took a little bit to get to the plot, had a slow start but once it got there it held my attention, Kinda wished it ended differently though, Would have been nice to know if they found the "others" lol.

![]() The Tree Charlotte Gainsbourg A young family in the Australian Outback struggles to move on after the father dies. He, I presume, had a heart attack while driving and ended up hitting this tree. The tree is an integal part the movie as they progress through the grieving and healing process. The symbolism is quite well done. And the scenery is awesome. |

~review found on XOJane~:
We went to see "Pariah" recently and I was reminded that my mother (black, female and gay) is a triple threat when it comes to oppression. That statement is not meant to be cute. It's a fucking fact. And it scares the shit out of me. Written and directed by Dee Rees, Pariah is the quietly loud tale of a young black girl from Brooklyn struggling with all the normal identity crises of adolescence. But with the added bonus of being a brown girl who likes other brown girls. Sixteen-year-old Alike (Ah-LEE-kay) is played with the perfect blend of confusion and confidence by 33-year old Adepero Oduye. Kim Wayans (yes THAT Kim Wayans) plays Alike's selectively blind mother, Audrey, who makes it her mission to equal parts ignore her daughter's sexuality and highlight it for fixing. The movie is beyond good and it sky rockets beyond LGBTQ issues or black issues or female issues. It's a story about finding yourself. It's about filterring out all the cloudy muck of expectation to a clear glass of water that reflects you, just you. But once all that painfully important work is done there are some who'd still have you swallow poison. The poison of being someone you are not. http://www.xojane.com/entertainment/...riah-right-now |

I was asking about the reviews you provided just from this last page because that's what struck me. I don't know, maybe I'm a more positive person in general, but I can usually find something that's not horrible about a movie, even if it's only the font of the rolling credits. I suppose it was just the strong negativity I was responding to, that's all. |

I'm not sure why, but I have a fondness for this movie. I've seen it twice, when it was first available On Demand. I enjoyed it, even though it wasn't a "great" movie.

Contraband with Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale. Action packed thriller - good movie if you like the genre.

I watched "Fagbug". It's a documentary about a lesbian whos VW Bug was vandalized and the word fag was spray painted on it. She refused to remove it, and drove it across country to promote awareness. It was ok. My wii decided to crap out towords the end, so I didn't finish it.

Two Women (1960)...Italian...starring a young and stunning Sophia Loren
Cesira (Loren) and her 13-year-old daughter, Rosetta, flee from the allied bombs in Rome during the second world war. They travel to the village where Cesira was born. During their journey and in the village, the mother does everything to protect Rosetta. However, on one occasion they both get raped by soldiers while hiding in a church. This cruel event is too much for the always powerful and tenacious Cesira. She suffers from a breakdown. They get to her childhood village where, a young intellectual, falls in love with Cesira. She struggles to accept and reply to the advances of such a gentleman. Excellent movie! |

I have been waiting a while for Colombiana to come to video, since they played the trailer on youtube. Worth the wait, little predictable, but I would recommend.

Larry Crowne with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. It got terrible reviews, but i kinda liked it. i like Tom Hanks and can tolerate Julia. i liked the the supporting cast a lot. George Takei is extremely weird though. He was supposed to be, but still. . .
The American with George Clooney -- it was like a passable foreign film from the seventies. i can't figure out why anyone would make it now. The ethical issues were trumped up and undeveloped. The romance had no spark, and all of the action lacked motivation. i don't mind a slowly paced film, but there has to be some kind of pay off. Afterwards, i read a review, and they called it a deconstructed action film, whatever that means. Whatever the director was trying to do went right over my head. |
