If there has been a set back or a cheat, DO NOT beat yourself up over it. Accept it, and continue toward your goal. Truly it is a mind f**k emotionally to even think of quitting. May 25, 2006, I became a non smoker -
I picked the date - May, being my mother's birthday month and the 25th, being the date of christmas -
My mother was laying in the hospital dying of cancer/COPD, and she begged me and my two younger sisters to stop smoking.
I loved my cigarettes!! But, I decided this was so important to her, I was going to do it - and I didn't tell a soul, I just picked the date & did it.
I gained 80 lbs in the process, but I certainly smell better.

I am thrilled and amazed I stopped..Though 3 weeks ago I was told I have copd/emphysema alot with a few other things...Hard thing to swallow however maybe it stopped the big C...I can only hope. No cells yet.

Either way..it is a good thing I am stopped

4 MONTHS SMOKE FREE TODAY........That is 4480 smokes so far I haven't put in my lungs !!!!

Good job! Keep it going!!! Most of the nicotine is out of your body now. Cravings will still be there, though, mostly psychological. One day at a time.

I want to lend my support to those who are trying to quit smoking... I know how hard it is! Keep up the good work, I promise it will get easier as time passes - not to mention you will feel so much better and get sick a whole lot less.

I will be celebrating my 2 year kick-the-habit mark come September (right around the time of the reunion!)
How did I do it? I moved! I lived with other smokers and it is just about impossible to quit if there is someone else who is smoking inside the house.

Go you G-snap...I celebrated my 2yrs nicotine free on the 26th of April just gone and it, along with with quitting alcohol are the best things I've ever done for myself.

It's been a relatively easy road I guess because I've been 'lucky' in that I have the fear that comes with lung disease. A new-found willingness to concentrate on my redeveloping my conscious contact with a higher power (mine happens to a christian God)also helps because I don't feel alone with my addictions. Sorry folks, it's 12 step speak all the way for me at the moment.

Since returning to work on a 12 step programme it's been harder in some ways . These bloody addicts yanno, they all seem to smoke! There can be weeks where I'm triggered most days at meetings but I work those first 3 steps like a demon around my nicotine addiction and have still not smoked...not one puff!

The memory of that last near fatal chest infection sticks with me in full technicolour.

May the force with y'all

Checkin back in on my 5th non-smoking day. Ok... wth is goin on? I tried to cheat today and that is'nt even fun anymore. My cig tasted totally different! I mean... yucky and pukey different! It almost made me sick.

Did that happen to anyone else here, or is my mind playin tricks on me?
