You struggle is a normal one trust me.
I smoked since I was a young teen and my story very much the same.

I tried often to quit but honestly, did it in a much more non robotic method this time.
I also stopped kicking my own ass...that helped incredibly!

I quit using several methods together..Also some thought I was a whimp..for taking so long to finally commit.

It was the only way my mind would allow me to concieve never smoking.
Whimp or not, the results are in the final outcome..right?

I would be happy to share my tricks if you would like.

Also I suggest reading this thread from front to back.

It truely may have great suggestions in it you might choose to use.

I may be late, but all things in life are possible... For those of you who have read my story, or those of you who knew my heavy smoking habit, this is my Celebration of life...



*And it is a stepping stone for me.
*It has been one year and 6 days.
*It has become much easier.
*Yes I still have cravings, but water or a snack has tamed the beast.
*I don't blame stress as my crutch anymore.
*I blame my own loss of control if it becomes out of control.
*I deal with my actions one at a time now.
*I don't point at others and shoot blame.
*I feel more responsible and in control!
*Yes, I did gain weight after quitting... BUT... I also lost it with learning how to ease my down time at the gym in stead.
*I learned to do things I love to do, and not wait for any excuse to run outside and light up.
*I can go outside and sit with my smoking friends and still laugh, joke and shop talk without smoking.
*All the money I spent on cigarettes are now used to buy CD's or clothes that I realize I deserve after all, it's a celebration....

**I wish everyone the freedom of choice, and I need not judge or criticize. For I once was, once did, and have made my own choices in life. Good luck everyone! Learn to breath in the beauty all around you...

I myself am learning to do everything new and fresh..it is bazzar but awesome to me.

I did the cut down thing for 2 months..it helped me extremely.
I needed to make sure all was consistant..and for me it worked.

Less is an achievment all in itself.

and I'm a hot, twitchy mess! I didn't intend on quitting but a week ago I came back from vacation and decided not to smoke anymore. Just like that. I've managed to go seven days without the first craving and today I'm a wreck!! Actually the irritability started last night, I just didn't recognize what it was. My poor honey. He caught pure hell!

I've smoked a pack a day (give or take) for the past 10 plus years. I've been wanting to quit for some time but just haven't been serious about it. After a short visit to GA, where Camel menthol is only $3.96 per pack, I cannot bring myself to pay $9.87 per pack here in NY! Fuckers!! Oops...there's the cranky again! So for health and financial reasons, I am gonna take a stab at it!! Wish me luck and thanks for reading. Also, thanks for sharing your stories. It helps to read about your struggles/successes as well!

Thanks LP! I spent a good part of the morning going back through the thread and will keep doing so when needed. I appreciate the support offered here and am lucky to be part of such a great community!

They say it takes 21 days to break a habit so I'm hoping "they" are right! Feels like it anyway. I'm not twitchy anymore although I have moments where I feel like I want a smoke but it passes. I have avoided alcohol (until Sunday) knowing that would trigger me wanting to smoke. I had a margarita Sunday evening and I was amazed that I didn't have the first craving. I'm sure if I'd kept drinking I would've caved though.

Anyway, thanks for letting me share!

Great job funkyfemme! Keep it going! There will always be times that you have cravings...just wait it out and they will pass. Good job being conscious of how having that second drink may have brought up cravings (and maybe made you more vulnerable to giving in). Thinking ahead will serve you well in this battle. Great job!

Just the fact that you are 21 days clean is amazing and should be credited. Ya know what I mean...smiles

I work very hard at staying in the moment with any addiction.
Over confidence has lead to relapse in my past.
And that simply is not an option for me anymore.
So I stay in the here and now, hopeful for tomorrow's
And celebrate the me I am becoming...Make sence?

I so hear ya on staying in the moment. I don't want to get overly confident either cause I've been there, done that and failed miserably! I really don't like counting the days but then I do. I'm just being careful, present and ENJOYING not smoking. I'm also constantly thinking about situations that may cause me to smoke and staying one step ahead. I wonder when that will cease. Eh, I'm just gonna keep working this and stay strong. I'm glad this space is here and it's good to know I'm not alone in this.

And this thread actually helped me to stay honest to myself. Ha!

I plan and prepare so that smoking people do not effect me as much.
In time that grows easier but I can not say that it goes away altogether.
I used to use other stuff and though it is very few and far between,
some remnants of that creep in on a whim..You just have to breathe, exhale and walk on with your chin held high.
