Was only half awake when I looked at the baseball news today. Did it say the Giants have pitched 4 shut outs in a row? Pretty cool stuff.

The Red Sox finally traded Youkilis to the White Sox. If he can stay healthy, he will be a huge asset to them.

Yes, 4 shut outs in a row! Breaking all kinds of franchise historical records. And finally, Lincecum is back with his stuff. But, we are not even at the All Star mark yet- so, anything can happen. The Dodgers seem to have fallen apart. Right now they are in a series with the Reds which are in first place themselves. That was last night's shut-out. We'll see what happens as I think the Reds will be tough today. Right now, not only is the pitching staff humming, the bats have been hitting! Long way to go, though.

Yes, saw that about Youlilis.

My Giants just got mega-swept by the Pirates! Yikes! And Tim Lincecum continues on his really terrible season. UGH!

I bet there is someone here really excited about the Pirates season! Hey, they are playing great ball. Personally, I see them building a great team over the next couple of years. They have some young players really coming into their own. And you gotta love Andrew McCutchen.

Now, please, SF, get it together!

Well the season is playing out as I predicted (hoped) with the only missing conjecture being that the Twins would pick their feet up and give us a good run in the Central. I told you guys Boston would come back.

Well we've split the series so far. Let's see what happens tonight. I'd like to see us improve our lead (3.5 ahead of the Tigers). The Angels beat them 13-0 yesterday so the Tigers will likely have a bad attitude coming out today. I'm hoping for an LA & TB win along with us beatin' you guys tonight.

The odds are not quite in your favor tonight LOL. I dont know who is pitching tonight but it isnt Lester or Beckett - our 2 pretty much guaranteed losers this year.

Boston isnt back yet this year. They are still flirting with the basement, riddled with injuries, and inconsistent in both hitting and pitching. Going to need a major off season overhaul of personnel and attitudes to get back on track.

10-1 in the 7th? We need more than a little in our favor.

Ugh.......Detroit & Cleveland won too. We lost 1/2 a game. We have to win tonight to split the series which I would settle for then we're off to play the Tigers, (we need to take the series if not sweep altogether and end this long-assed road stand. Last home game was before the All Star break.) With Detroit a mere 2.5 games behind us I'd prefer the sweep. We could lose ground here and it will either make or break our year.

After that, the Twinkies at home. While MN may look like a no-brainer on paper only a fool would dismiss them. They've been able to hand our asses to us on a platter fairly readily.

I do believe, however, that Cleveland is done. They face the Orioles next and than Detroit. I think these 2 series is key for them and that it won't end well and they will sink further back. I would be surprised if they slipped behind the Royals although there is the possibility that KC will have a bit of a surge. I would have expected them to taken the series against the Mariners, which they did not do. In any case I believe that bottom of the Central is now set as is.

You guys should be able to rough up the Blue Jays but have a hill to climb with the Rangers, Tigers, and the Yankees right behind the birds. Do us a favor and handle the Tigers willya? I don't think you are going the catch the Yankees this year. At least by the books they should be able to clean out their next 2 opponants (Oakland and Seattle) before they hook up with the Red Sox.

Good luck tonight!! I hope it's at least a good game.

Well, it is going to be an exciting end of the season. I have not been on the site in awhile, but watching every Giants game. Been to one and going in September to two at the yard. Life has been busy and just haven't signed in much.

Glad to see the baseball folks have been keeping up with one another.

Ha! Someone else who knows the Red Sox as the BoSox.

Well, the Red Sox look to be conceding the season and are now reportedly embarking on garage sales and salary dumping.

They placed Adrian (would you like some cheese with that whine) Gonzalez on waivers and are in talks with the Dodgers to trade Adrian, Carl (my body is falling apart) Crawford, and Josh (do I look like a give a f*#@) Beckett for James Loney (who?) and some minor leaguers. Over 200 million is owed those 3 for the duration of their contracts.

Personally, I think they should throw in Lackey, Dice-K, and some fried clams to sweeten the deal.

Grrrrr... every time SF gets in 1st place by 2-3 games, the bats go silent! And when the hell is Pence going to show his great bat? That's why we have him!

I have had it with Sandoval hurting himself just a few games after getting off the DL due to taking stupid risks and being out of shape! He is an amazing player, but, does not think or take care of himself.

Post Happy Birthday Kevin!

Kevin McClatchy reveals he is gay

Updated: September 22, 2012, 11:54 AM ET

ESPN.com news servicesKevin McClatchy, the owner and CEO of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1996 to 2007, has acknowledged he is gay to The New York Times, saying frequent homophobic slurs he heard in baseball circles had convinced him to keep his sexual orientation a secret.
McClatchy, an heir to a newspaper chain who sold his shares of the Pirates in 2009 only after ensuring that the club remained in Pittsburgh, said the time had finally come to speak openly about his sexuality.

[+] EnlargeRich Pilling/MLB Photos/Getty Images"Kevin McClatchy saved the Pittsburgh Pirates," commissioner Bud Selig said in 2007, after McClatchy resigned as CEO.

"You're not going to solve any problem until you start a dialogue," McClatchy told The Times for an op-ed story published in Sunday's editions. "And there's no dialogue right now."
McClatchy will also be the subject of Wednesday's "Outside The Lines" (3 p.m. ET on ESPN).
"I've got a birthday coming up where I'm turning old," McClatchy, who will turn 50 in January, told The Times. "I've spent 30 years -- or whatever the number is specifically -- not talking about my personal life, lying about my personal life."
McClatchy is not the first major-league executive or former executive to come out as gay. Rick Welts, the president and chief executive officer of the Phoenix Suns, revealed his sexuality last year.
"This has been challenging to me," he told The Times of his decision to reveal his sexual orientation. "I probably didn't sleep as well as I could have last night."
McClatchy boasted of baseball's ending of racial segregation in sports while saying he didn't think players considered it similar to one of their own coming out as gay.
"I don't think they equate breaking the color barrier with Jackie Robinson to, 'Hey, by the way, we've never had one player announce they're gay while playing baseball.' "
A native of Sacramento, McClatchy spent more than six months assembling the shareholders and cash necessary to buy the Pirates in February 1996, after local ownership could not be found and it appeared the money-losing team might be relocated.
He announced his resignation as chief executive officer in July 2007.
McClatchy emerged as a surprise bidder for the Pirates in 1995, after Pennsylvania cable TV franchise owner John Rigas was designated to buy the team but did not complete the transaction. Then-NL president Len Coleman guided McClatchy's group through the $95 million transaction so a franchise now worth three times that amount would not leave.
While McClatchy kept the Pirates in Pittsburgh, and was the driving force in getting PNC Park financed and built for the 2001 season, the team never had a winning season while he was the owner.
"I take responsibility for the losing, that's probably in some ways reason for a change," McClatchy said in 2007.
McClatchy's lobbying also was instrumental in the 2006 All-Star Game being played in PNC Park, only 12 years after the game was staged in Three Rivers Stadium.
"Kevin McClatchy saved the Pittsburgh Pirates. He assumed control of the franchise amid considerable turmoil and during the worst economic period in baseball history," commissioner Bud Selig said in 2007.

Well, the regular season is over.

Congrats to the division winners: Yanks, Tigers, Athletics; Nationals, Reds, Giants. And the wild cards : Orioles, Rangers, Braves, Cardinals.

RIP 2012 Red Sox. Record 69-93. Good for 5th place (aka last place). Nowhere to go but up guys!

I'm hoping the A's go all the way. It's time for Billy Beane to have his day with the lowest payroll in baseball and a starting rotation of all rookie pitchers.

A's-Giants World Series would be sweet. A's-Nationals would be sweet too.
