Well, I started up again yesterday because i really miss it. But today was the first day I started Shaun T's Insanity program which full blown cardio like you have never seen it. I thought I was going to die. I had to pause it probably 5-6 times to catch my breath. There's exercises on there that I had never seen and they are incredible.

This is a 60-day cardio program to change your weight and body dramatically.
No bullshit, it's an amazing program. There are 10 different disks, each having different 25-minute programs as you advance over a 60-day period. No weights or any equipment is required.

It's going to be rough. I'm an ex-smoker, 4 years now, and I felt every bit of breathlessness doing this program even after 4 years of quitting.

I'm also 53, but i have no problem of letting that stand in the way. I'm still strong enough to endure and build up with my weightlifting program.
Jet, I understand the stall in your working out. I'm going through something similar (in that an emotional/mental state is affecting my physical self).

Two years ago this month, I left an unhealthy relationship. Since then, I've worked hard to be as good to myself as I possibly can and that's worked fairly well (give or take) until this month. My housemates are going through a nasty split and the past three weeks have been very difficult on all of us in the house, due to physical proximity as well as emotional ties to each person. The fights, the tears, the drama....*sigh*....I love them and I hate to say it, but I'm glad that one of them finally left the house. It is still not a healthy home by any standards, but it's better and that helps me.

I am a chameleon. I adapt to the environment. If it's a good one, I do really well. When it's not, unfortunately, I don't. So, I've been emotionally eating and hibernating in my space and generally not being kind to myself.

I am interested in the program you are talking about. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you? Feel free to pm me if you don't want to post it here. Thanks.

Ugh.
Yes. The same thing happened to me. I've had a lot of changes in my life lately and I let going to the gym slide. Then when things eventually settled down I let myself fall into a rut of being seditentary and didn't go to they gym. I really agree that exercise is very good for us when we start to feel tired and run down or even depressed. But it's soooooo hard to get motivated. It took me awhile to get back in the routine of going to they gym again but I forced myself and I'm so glad I did. I've been back going regularly now doing cardio and lifting weights for awhile and I can tell the difference in my energy level, and overall mental health, not to mention my body's conditioning and also sleep better at night.

I've seen the advertisements for Insanity on TV and it looks like a killer. Unfortunately, I don't think my knee could take it (blew it out when I was pregnant with Katie and it still gives me trouble)...and I don't know there is much you can do to modify a program like that.

Keep us posted, Jet...I'm curious to see how it goes.

Yes, I do. At least, I did today. Oh, I missed it!

An hour of cardio at a moderate pace (it's been a couple of weeks since I've been and didn't want to push myself too hard), 10 minutes on the rowing machine, about 5 minutes of ab work and a good stretching session and I feel wonderful!

My neck and shoulders tend to tighten up when I'm stressed and/or it's been a while since I've worked out (it keeps my limber) and I've had both to deal with lately. They were sooooo tight last night and early this morning and now....ahhhh. I feel sooo much better!

I'm lucky to Insanity for 5 minutes without stopping the program.

But I'll tell you this: It has incredible ab routines.

Will I shape in 60 days? Prolly more like 90.

To get out and get moving I do the stuff I like to do.

I grab my skateboard or go play some horse at the basketball court. I also do hiking and geocaching. I have some handweights which I really like. I personally beleive that you should do what you like to, to stay healthy. There is no way you can force yourself to do stuff you hate and keep that routine without getting stressed out or quit. Plus its not about losing weight or looking some certain way. I can be strong and healthy just doing what I do best.

My gym includes a separate commercial-quality squat/calf machine. But now I've started the cardio program that hits the legs 3x what squat-calf machine does. Tonight i can hardly walk; I'm sore all the way through the glutes. Kind of pissed i spent the money. I guess, hopefully , in July I'll use the squat machine to build size...that's a big maybe. —J

I had an hour on the elliptical and a few minutes on the rowing machine today. 651 total calories BURNED, baby! Woot!

Tomorrow, my gym has a new Turbo Kickboxing class starting and I am super psyched! Of course, tomorrow I will probably be limping and wincing from the pain, but I think it's going to be an awesome class and can't wait to see the results from it.

I do workout. Although I'm not sure why I bother. *sigh* I try to do an 1 1/2 at the gym. I like it and would stay longer but damned if they'll let you smoke in there. The day I signed up at this gym (planet fitness) they had a huge bowl of candy on the desk and 25 sheet pizza's on a table - Friday is pizza day - I was like YAY! This is my kinda gym!! lol.

I bought those shape up shoes a couple of weeks ago. I got the cute looking Mary Jane ones by sketchers so I could wear them to work. The first three days my legs and butt burned. And my back muscles hurt. I did read the instructions and you are only supposed to wear them for an hour at first. I disregarded that and wore them all day. Whatever. I bought them so my butt would be tiny like the girls on the sketcher and nike commercials. I figured, better just get to gettin'. ANYWAY...They do absolutely change your posture. Now my legs and feet hurt when I'm NOT wearing them. I want another pair now, I wish they weren't so expensive so I could start a collection. I need the flip flop ones for sure.

Turbo Kickboxing was not all that I had hoped it would be, unfortunately. Some of it had nothing to do with the class or instructor though. My gym is redoing their siding and the sounds from the construction overrode the mike and instructor so the music kept getting turned up but her mouth set kept going out. Blech. Annoying, but not a deal breaker.

Next week, the construction won't be going on right outside the gym and, hopefully, they will have picked a better headset to call the changes through.

I did, however, burn about 400 calories, even with the stopping and starting due to the sound system and just awkwardness in general. This was the instructor's very first time teaching a class, so it was an experience for all of us. Now, if I can just get the lady in front of me to understand what the words 'mirror my movements' means, I'll be set. She kept throwing me off because I'm aerobically ADD like that.

All in all, I do have hope for it and I got some good laughs looking at everyone muddle around. I'm sure I looked awkward too, but there were no mirrors so I couldn't see how bad I looked.

I finished up the day with another half an hour in the cardio room. Good times!

I'm involved in a new exercise regimen; I reworked my routine to lose more weight and thin out, and the best program that I have found is P90X. Terrific for cardio, abs and the rest.

I did do INSANITY FOR awhile and totally taxed my knees. What they don't tell you is that it's highly-advanced program.

It's taken about 3 weeks to actually start liking cardio and P90x helped with that. Now I'm into all 45 minutes of that part of the program. Every day is different and i'm excited to have found something that I can gain results from. I'm able to keep up with an exercise program more so now than when I was in my 30s. I quit smoking at 50 and I still have problems breathing with in tense cardio segments, so just take a break and wait to catch up.

P90X uses bands, dumbells and a chair occasionally. So you don't have to invest in a lot of equipment to do the program. And I have found that being in my 50s is not too old to be healthy and fit.

I have a problem with cardio that directly engages the knees because I stressed mine a couple of weeks back and now jumps really hurt. Also, I have issues with balance; it feels like my equilibrium is off.

I added P90x because I needed cardio to go along with my gym and weightlifting. So now I think i finally have everything I need.

I've changed my schedule. I worked out at 4 am today, and I'd like to keep that schedule. I've laid out a routine that alternates between p90x and weightlifting on my gym. I want to stun the muscles by alternating high reps with light weights and low reps with heavy weights each week.

Welp. I've been doing the Couch-to-5K app (C25K) and running every other day. I recently got Five Fingers KSO Trek shoes so I get a near barefoot running experience (use more muscles to do the cardio). I'm holding off on the weight/P90X stuff until I get more room (with the packing/moving I have boxes everywhere )

Hopefully once I'm in L.A. I'll be able to do this better (P90X)

Hey Linus let me know how those shoes work for you. I have been contemplating getting closer to a barefoot type of running shoe. I am currently exercising my brain a LOT more than my body. I am just in a holding pattern with working out during this school year. I did enter a 4 mile run for the end of July because I'm jonesing for an event T-shirt.. I'm just trying to stay active by riding my mountain bike at least once a week, running a couple of times a week and this week's project is taking a study break every 30 minutes and doing 10 pushups.Anything to move and stay active!
