Lets talk about fishing
I'm opening this thread to anyone that likes fishing. Tell us about your favorite kind of fishing? Do you prefer lakes, rivers, streams, oceans or just good old fashioned ponds? What kind of rod and reel do you prefer to use? Would you rather fish from a boat or from the shore? These and other like questions can and should be posted here. I'm interested in learning about all kinds of fishing techniques. What works for you, what doesn't? Ok, I think ya'll get my drift.

aaaaaawwww a thread right up my ally. I grew up fishing on the deep sea boats out in San Diego,on the pacific ocean.I at one time had a 16 foot Thunderbird cathedral hull open bow boat with bait tank and fish finder.I love ocean fishing more than lake or pond fishing. There is nothing like having a great fight on your line with 50-60 pound test when you hit up a tuna.I have a custom made rod with open face reel for ocean fishing. I also have a Shakespeare light weight spinning reel combo for lake and pond fishing. I have two tackle boxes, one for ocean fishing and one for fresh water fishing.I'm looking forward to fishing down in the gulf when i move down there. My Lady White Tigress actually took me to baytown and showed me around where i saw a couple of guys fishing with a net in knee deep water with all these fish they caught, and got me itching to go fishing LOL. I have fished here at the lake and caught and released in my pond on my property.I also like to feed them and ducks LOL. I watched a couple with their child catching blue crabs with a piece of chicken on a string and thought I would like to do that also. I have been land locked for so long i can't wait to get to the ocean. As far as bait goes, i mainly use shrimp when im lake fishing. On the ocean i use squid, shrimp, anchovies.Mainly in San Diego we used anchovies and squid.
Great thread...........Thanks TIMBER |

Timber,
You said it! A yellowfin tuna is awesome to reel in! It took me close to 3 hours to reel in a 45 pound tuna on a deep sea trip. It just kept diving. Up and down we fought. In the end, I won. It was good eating I was told. I don't eat fish, but I grill it and smoke it for others to eat. |

I went out on a 3 day fishing trip out of Ensenada and loved it .Being a Mexican fishing boat our cook, Captain and crew loved to show us the fish, even cooking our catch if we wanted.Talk about authentic food.I really loved growing up in San Diego with being able to drive and not have to worry about what they do now a days in baja with troops and drug dealers and their wars going on there. Really shame. but back to the thread.sorry for the derail TIMBER |

I'm in Stillwater and I think meeting in Arkansas for fishing would be great. No boat towing except to a fishing hole. I mean, I travel to Austin when I want to and can hang with my friends there. Someone there always manages to have a place to stay for most of us that ask early enough. |

I cannot stand watching the fishing boats offshore netting. It really is just a sign of the times I guess. Every shoreman and fisherman are so very desperate for a catch that they are going farther and farther offshore to net in the Atlantic.
Some of the watermen that I have spoken to are so very supersticious. They think it is a sign of the end of time. That the fish are heading farther out to sea because of the continents falling into the sea. Their thinking - not mine. Have any of you guys watched the movie "Perfect Storm"? It was back on tv last week. |

I loved fishing for Croaker and Red Fish in Texas - but I won't eat anything from the ocean and not many lakes anymore. So I haven't been fishing in forever. I do love sport fishing - catch and release....

I'm in, where do I sign up and when do we start making plans? BTW, niceguy says there's a place to go floating out your way, which means there's a river. River fishing can be fun. Quote:

Hey Wolfy! We have almost 10,000 miles of rivers & streams, and over 600,000 acres of lakes! Many of them are in and around my (central AR) area, but it's also great that I can drive anywhere in the state is less than 3 hours! You'll find some of the best fishing, boating, and whitewater rafting here! We should definitely plan a BF fishing/canoeing weekend! I'm sure Jack and G would love it too! |

I am actually a seasoned angler with uncles that worked on commercial fishing boats and my dad an great outdoorsman. Rasied in South Florida I've deep sea fished, speared fish and trapped them.
Then I moved up north. I was lost! It was whole new type of fishing, fishing in streams and lakes but I was determined to learn it. yeah this is a fish story... I get the book, I get the new tackle and bait for my fresh water stream adventure. I set up at a stream, after reading the books, where there was an old broken down bridge. I got my stringer, my buckets, my fisherman's friend and I'm off to catch a bass. I cast my line out into a over hung tree and right away I catch a nice blue gill. I was so proud and even mouth watered think about how good he'd taste back at camp. Yep, I had oil, batter and everything i needed for an awesome fish fry. I am THAT confident in my angler abilities. So I string Mr Blue Gill up and let him flap in the water to stay fresh until I was ready to cut his head off and eat him. I'm noticing a red looking snake swimming in the water. I don't pay him any mind. I then hear this racket, sloshing.. I run to see what it was. That snake had my fish in his mouth trying to pull him away from the stringer but it was tied and he wasn't go anywhere! I took my pole and started beating him. Not that i would now eat this damn fish but i was so pissed off that I had to beat him. He wouldn't let go. His teeth sunk deep into the side and he pulled and pulled no matter how hard I hit him. Still pissed off I pull out my leatherman's friend, flip open the knife, walk down to the edge of the water and cut his head off. His body swam away and his teeth still clenched onto the fish. OMG I have fish stories trying to get that one perfect fish. I've catch trout when I didn't mean to, snagged huge lake trout in my boat while trying to break free from something. I wish I had a video camera to document my fishing bloopers. But I love fishing. Even when I'm not catching anything. I love getting in my kayak and finding that perfect spot and the watching the water swirl and move, knowing that the big one is just waiting to bite my hook and beg me to eat him.

If the weather stays good this coming weekend, R and I are going to check out the local lakes in our town. All I need to do is get a yearly license and I'll be good to go.

Fishing...
I love it. I have a marlin and dolphin mounted and hanging on my wall that I caught off Ocean City, Maryland.
I would love to travel one day to Venezuala (sp?) for sailfish, or Hawaii for shark. The only problem I have is the rolling waves make me so sea sick. No matter what I take, I get sick - but I still go. I always tell Rosie that I want to buy and live off a fishing boat in the Caribbean. Then I could fish and snorkel for fresh seafood everyday. What a life. |
