Baby-Making
I really want a kid. Probably through sperm donation. Probably in the next few years. Has anybody already gone through this or is anybody in the process of going through this or considering it?
I dreamed the other day I bought a package of sperm at the gas station with a photo of the donor on the cover. It was so cheesy. It's funny - sperm is a-plenty in this world, but it's expensive to buy. I would love to know what others have done, are doing, or are planning to do regarding this. I only have one fallopian tube, so may need to resort to extra help. I don't want to be octomom though.

I went the sperm donor route and have the sweetest 9 year old boy as a result. It wasn't expensive at all. $235 and $200 was for delivery from CA to NY. We chose a california sperm bank. Adoption was so much more complicated and expensive (at least 9 years ago).
I'd be happy to give more details. Ask away if you have questions. Best decision me and my ex ever made. We have a great son and because of him we really had to work hard to stay friendly after our breakup. |

Ok first..Congrats on your desision! It will be one of the most rewarding struggles you will endure.
My sister in law was able to get pragnant with one side working so yes it is most definately possible. When I decided to have my last child, shortly before I ended up having everything removed due to cancer. I had taken in pragnant teens to help them. As a result I was able to adopt my last when one who I got close to decided to adopt. He has been the joy I never imagined. I simply wanted to tell you never give up. But I will say if you choose to do this on your own and not from a clinic. Make the donor sign papers while pragnat that he is simply donating and does not want any part of this childs life. Also have him get a test for any types of desease ahead of time. That is a common mis-hap I have seen and then those doing have suffered. Good luck to you. I will be happy to hear when you actually achieve your desire.

Congrats on your decision. You will experience a love more profound than you can now imagine. My partner and I decided to have a child in 1985 and used a sperm bank In the San Francisco Bay Area. We had the option of picking a donor who was willing to have his identity revealed to our child when she reached 18. To us it was important to give our child that option. My gf was 14 years younger than me and decided she wanted someone else when our daughter was only 3. It was very hard but I wanted to have her in my life so I sucked it up and had every other weekends and sharred holidays, paying child support etc. I am glad I did. She is now 25, married and expecting her first baby--I am over the moon about the new spirit arriving in July. Some of my most amazing and most hearbreaking experinces came about because of my little girl--I wouldn't change it for the world. Her Mom and I are now the best of friends--it wasn't always easy but very worth it. The best of luck to you and remember to savour every moment. Jean

wishing you the best, Nat.
I once considered "sharing biology" with the Soft Butch I was involved with. My oldest son was in his late teens by then. From what I learned then after trying to answer my questions and find out if such a thing was considered acceptable ... it's a very costly procedure since both partners must go through hormone treatment and she would do the egg retrieval, I the insemination .... long story short...I wanted to have her baby. Plus, where I lived at the time, she would have been considered the baby's parent and named on the birth certificate ... bypassing the need for costly adoption or other legal stuff to have her made as legal parent or guardian. Sadly, we couldn't because she had passed the age requirement for egg retrieval ....in retrospect, I'm glad we didn't because the relationship was just an infatuation ....but sharing biology with a partner is very fascinating to me.... |
