Default Free Event 3/30/13 conversation about racism

March 30th @ 6:30 Free, accessible, light food and beverage provided. FaceBook event link below

Please join and engage in a space for learning and growth. This is a place for "community" to come together for conversations that are often difficult. A key point of this gathering is to look at how the tactics and tools in the denial of racism are often to dismiss, accuse, and shame those who are living their lives under the daily violence of racism. A key point to explore is how folks, derailed, denied, and claim reverse racism in our attempt to engage in conversation. The point of entry this time was the support and the silence in response to a racism for pay act of 'Blackface' by a white gay man. What is Art? Who decides? The issue now is how to move into conversations not just about the overt racism how to move beyond the trap of oppression Olympics. How do we not take personal what is the structural and institutional? Why do we not listen to or deny when a person of colour says we said something racist? How is Whiteness invisible and universal in the same moment? What are the internal bias we all have? There will be a short clip of the Film Cracking the Code, By World Trust to help us frame the discussion. This is a free and open to all event, so please join us as we continue the work.
