Default FYI- COLAGE seeking Board members

This is your opportunity to join COLAGE's Board of Directors during a very exciting time for the organization! In the second year of implementing our new strategic plan and in the midst of celebrating our 20th anniversary, COLAGE is looking for dynamic, passionate and active leaders to join the Board of Directors and work with the organization to take it to the next level of its development and impact.
COLAGE is the only national, youth-driven network that connects people with a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer (LGBTQ) parent to a community of peers. Growing up knowing that our families are different can make a kid feel confused or conflicted. By connecting with others who share our experience, COLAGE helps us come to the realization that our difference is our strength. With this realization, we become leaders and advocates for the policies that matter most to our families. Based in San Francisco, COLAGE offers an integrated array of local, regional and national programs. With over 10,000 member contacts, a network of chapters across the U.S, and 20 years of expertise in youth empowerment and LGBTQ family matters, COLAGE represents and organizes the millions of people who have one or more LGBTQ parents and families.
The COLAGE Board of Directors is an intergenerational, multi-racial/multi-cultural group of dedicated volunteers that includes youth and adults with LGBTQ parents, LGBTQ parents, and allies from all over the United States. The Board convenes for in-person meetings twice annually in addition to participating in ongoing conference calls and committee meetings. The Board provides crucial guidance and oversight for COLAGE and its programs, performs important fundraising and governance duties, and supports the staff of COLAGE in their ongoing work.

* Do you have one or more transgender parent(s) and/or identify as trans?

* Are you from/Do you reside in the Midwest or a rural area of the U.S.? Or from the cities of NYC, DC, or LA?

* Public relations, marketing, media communications, and e-communications;

* Fundraising, especially event planning and individual donor program development
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

* Uphold COLAGE's mission, vision, values, and methodology

Default Hammer and Nails in San Francisco

If you've not heard our butch brother from up north read, come on out to hear Ivan Coyote at the event below. Rope--

Hammer and Nails in San Francisco
September 16, 2010 - 08:00am
Modern Times Bookstore
888 Valencia Street
San Francisco, CA
See map: Google Maps
Hammer and Nails brings together Yukon storyteller Ivan Coyote and new Orleans comic Jessica Halem for a north/south butch/femme aural exploration of words and wit.

Cost: $15.00

Jessica Halem is a Fool’s Fool. Called “Brave and Bawdy” by Time Out Chicago and “Righteous and Chipper” by the Times-Picayune, Jessica was raised by hippie Jewish artists from the East Coast which was anything but normal – or easy – in small-town Ohio, but did help to foster this very funny “on-your-face” comic who puts her queer spin on everything from Sudafed to Feminism to Glory Holes.

www.jessicahalem.com

Ivan Coyote was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. An award-winning author of six collections of short stories, one novel, three CD’s, four short films and a renowned performer, Ivan’s first love is live storytelling, and over the last seventeen years she has become an audience favourite at music, poetry, spoken word and writer's festivals from Anchorage to Amsterdam. The Globe and Mail called Ivan "a natural-born storyteller" and Ottawa X Press said "Coyote is to CanLit what k.d. lang is to country music: a beautifully odd fixture."

Default At La Pena in Berkeley~ Adelina Anthony Friday January 28, 2011

a Hocicona Series: La Angry Xicana?!

Adelina Anthony. 3 Days !!

Friday January 28, 2011
$15 adv. $20 dr. $35 package deal for all 3 shows online only!!! - 8pm

For 3-day Deal! tickets click here.
For advance tickets for this date only click here.

An original X-X-Xicana comedic triptych of scandalous proportions! Yes, 1 unapologetic Xicana in 3 solo comedy shows performed back to back. Written and performed by Adelina Anthony. Directed by D'Lo. Friday and Saturday at 8pm. Sunday at 7pm, with a post show discussion.

If you come to all 3 shows... you've just participated in making some theater history... yes, come watch an unprecedented performance event as Adelina performs a different show each night!

La Angry Xicana?!

is a full-length comedy show that features Adelina's trademark salacious, brazen, Spanglish humor and flirts with all kinds of cultural taboos. "La Angry Xicana?!" weaves together critiques on Hollywood, the U.S. corporate media, purported lesbian gang epidemics, The L Word, conservative politics, health issues, religious icons, post-welfare life, and the semi-sacred courtship that happens only among queer womyn of color. As in all of her works, the show commits to positioning lesbian Xicana/Latinas as the ideal viewership and operates from queer/feminist/indigenous perspectives. Using comedy as a weapon of choice, the show examines possible sources of contemporary and historical anger among womyn of color. (Oh, and people, she's really not angry, she's just getting even!)
