Mr Smitty the one eyed rocking on limping kitty crossed his eyes when I asked him about this...he said (indignantly) that we hairless two legged ones are complex simpletons and this is right up there with Kitty Porn...and has refused to give me permission to post about his "releases"...
my old girl Story is such a genteel lady..she is in her 90s as far as dog age/breed goes..I often envision her as a lace collared victorian woman...she would be appalled if I even broached the subject with her so I shall refrain from answering about her as well... but wait until Dawson the 200 lb drooling black newf comes to live with us...he will brag about it...he is an old man, retired stud..imagine him with gold chains around his neck..maybe a little leather...and a beer in his jowls...yeah..farts...yaaaaaaaaaaa

There are 2 dogs in our household and, yes, when they are fed inappropriate foods, they stink it up from top to bottom (townhome). Greasy and super fat-filled foods are the worst.

I have no pet at this time, however, when I was a wee girl, our Great Dane had to be put on a special diet. You think you know dog gas... until you have spent the evening with a "farty Dane". We had an aerosol air freshener stashed in the living room, since after dinner, she usually perfumed the area. It was overwhelming. Poor thing, she didn't understand our exclamations of "UGH!" and the hissing of the spray... We also fed her charcoal tablets. Nothing really worked. |

I just took our stinky dog to the vet and talked about his nighttime gas, among other things. I posted earlier that he is diabetic and has other problems related to his age of 11 or 12.
Due to his diabetes, he is on a high fiber, high protein diet. The food we use is OK, it's not the most expensive food. The vet said that one thing that causes that gas is a poor fiber source. She recommends that the fiber ingredient in the food be beet fiber, not rice, as is most commonly used. She said the rice isn't digested as well. The dog is having his teeth cleaned soon, so she said not to make any changes right now--we want to be sure that his diabetes stays stable. But, I'm going to do some research in the meantime and see if we can find something affordable as well as appropriate. Will keep you informed.

Our 2 Pits are very obvious with Gas!
Especially if we change foods. While at a dog show we talked with a Nutro food specialist. They recommended this brand. NutroŽ Natural ChoiceŽ Dog Food Large Breed Adult Formulated to provide 100% complete and balanced nutrition, for adult maintenance. Like all NATURAL CHOICEŽ products, this formula contains no ground yellow corn. We use highly digestible rice, chicken protein and high levels of linoleic acid for healthy skin and coat, and strong muscles. NATURAL CHOICEŽ Large Breed Adult Dog Food provides the premium nutrition your dog deserves for a healthy, happy and long life. KEY PRODUCT BENEFITS
He said that the Glucosamine really helps Pits with the gas, and so far he has been right. |

Bacardi, our almost 60lb fat cat has always been on a special diet to help digestion. And I'm not sure how he got so tubby because he is an extremely finicky eater. Unless of course he's raiding the fridge when we're all in bed. But his diet food does cause a few "slipups" but luckily they aren't too fragrant. However...
Butch, our 5 month old Boston Terrier, is a different story entirely. He normally eats a good diet of healthy puppy foods, but on occasion there are some in the household who can't get past those "poor puppy eyes" when he's begging for a bit of people food. For his "favorite" human meals, he gets a small dish (usually a few TBSPfuls) of either chili or stroganoff. Sheesh...might as well clear the house when that happens. And he makes it worse, because he seems to be a prankster. He will curl up on your pillow at night to love on you, then turn around real quick with his butt in your face and let it all out before you can get away. Afterwards he seems so pleased with himself. (I think the butch of the house and my 12 year old son are both teaching him bad habits...Aargh!!!!!!!! lol) Nothing worse than stinky puppy farts...blech... |
