Ravelry.com is a worldwide knitting/crocheting/spinning website. It is awesome and free. There are tons of patterns, groups, contests in groups, you have project pages, a library for your patterns, a place to "stash" your yarns to keep track of them, you can make friends, people are generally nice, there are groups for everything and everyone. I love it!

I put "crochet" in pattern search and it came back with: 89,894 matches.

I taught myself to knit several years ago, and I really enjoy it. I decided to teach myself how to crochet because I found some really cute patterns for crocheting animals. I'm having some trouble though, with crocheting the adjustable ring. I've started working on a scarf, just a basic stitch, to give myself some practice and develop a familiarity with the hook and the basic stitches. Has anyone else here had trouble mastering the adjustable ring?

Good to know!

I taught myself to crochet last winter, aided exclusively by You Tube videos. Now I can read patterns without visual aids, although I admit that I keep it pretty simple, so far. If I ever want to try something new, there is always a video for it. But it might be nice to have people with whom to share ideas, ask questions, and find inspiration.

I was on a piglet-kick for a while. I was thinking that the next one should have wings.

Dee, dont mean to be following you around LOL. I bought some "beginner" knitting things today and i'm going to try my hand at it.

I've been reading in this thread awhile and you all are so very talented. You are all very amazing.

I have zero crafting talent in my bones. BUT, i wanted to start doing something. So i'm gonna try and knit a scarf for Bully.

I got a "kit" that has needles and some other things i have no clue what they are and a book and CD.

I got two bundles of yarn.

So far that's all i know. I'm getting ready to get into it tonight though. I'm so excited!!!!

Thanks for this thread and all that post here. You give someone like me real hope.

Yay for you! A knitting virgin? Well i can tell you that i tried once to knit something, and i wanted to stab myself in the forehead with the needle by the time i was done.

So i crochet, big easy blankets and scarfs.

THEN my friend came over and showed me how to knit! WOW it's much easier for me with someone showing me.

IMO there is something special about something someone made, like someone once said to me, *it's part of your life*

and when i make something for someone i put much energy and thought into it for them, so when they use it they get all of that good juju along with it.

Corny eh?

Yes!!! That is why i wanted to try. My family is full of artist. My mom paints. My brother was a real artist, i think you've seen his work on fb. I have cousins in symphonies scattered all over the US. Music teachers. Art teachers....on and on.

And then...there is me. lol. I've tried so many crafts. I can make jewelry but it's just not that fun to me. I have enough beads in my closet to make a necklace long enough to stretch to where you live.

Anyway, point is, i DO want something that is from my hands that i can pass on to someone. A part of my life, my love and my work. Corny, maybe. But i want it and i want it bad.

I'm sitting here trying to go by this book and the first stitch to learn is the casting stitch. I look at the pic and i'm not sure if i'm doing it right or not. That is what is so frustrating. What if i'm practicing it wrong?

I'm not to the point of poking my eyes out with the needle yet, but i have sat on them twice now.

I learned to tat from youtube. It was fun, but oh my, I sure did replay parts of the videos over and over and over trying to figure everything out, lol! The nice thing was that no one got irritated at me for asking them to show me so many times in a row.

You tube has helped me with lots of stuff!

i think Belle got lost in Youtube and never came back.

Maybe she stabbed herself in the forehead with a knitting needle.

Maybe she stayed up all night and got it done!

Maybe she's strangling poor Bully with what is supposed to be a scarf

i hope she comes back, with photos!
